A SLICE OF HEAVEN AT HELL’S GATE
S
ettled in amidst numerous granite outcroppings, this home reveals its traditional presence within the landscape, while at the same time embracing and complementing its dramatic surroundings. Past storms and microbursts naturally opened the building site to a panoramic experience of the ebbing and flowing tides of Hell’s Gate on the Sasanoa River. Drawn originally by the cedars, ferns, and a mossy stone wall leading to the site, the homeowners knew they had found their home. Although they had the perfect spot, it took time for their life to catch up to their dreams. As they continued to visit the site over the years, their dreams molded into a vivid picture as the natural elements continued to shape the site. “Home” was first and foremost. Efficient, cozy, ergonomic, and uniquely theirs, they wanted space for hobbies and passions that have grown over the years. A Douglas fir timber frame brings warmth, character, and craftsmanship. Continuous insulation provided by structural insulated panels (SIPs), along with a thoughtful window package, provides progressive efficiency and comfort. A custom double-sided fireplace, outdoor kitchen, fire pit, large open deck, and a panoramic soaking tub are just a few of the finer details that bring this home to life. The landscaping implements a simple palette of native shrubs and sods, tucked in between the residence and adjacent exposed ledge, with granite stepping-stone walkways and pine-needle paths creating circulation throughout the site.
