Kelly + Reid

Kelly and Reid met in Student Senate while attending college in Cedar Rapids. Although the two started off as just friends, Kelly always had her eyes on Reid. Their chemistry finally sparked on Student Flunk Day - a day of campus wide shutdowns, celebrations and fundraising at local bars around the city. Just as the bar was closing down that night, the two bellied up only to get “iced”. Kelly and Reid were challenged by a mutual friend to chug a bottle of Smirnoff Ice together. A few weeks later, they were inseparable! The couple dated for five years before making things official. Kelly anticipated a ring as she is known to be quite the planner. However, Reid knew just the trick to surprise her. One day Kelly’s sister asked her to go out for a manicure and pedicure before Kelly’s night shift as a labor and delivery nurse. On her way to the hospital she got a call from her boss saying that they didn’t need her to come in. Although slightly shaken from the last minute change, Kelly returned home only to find Reid and their chocolate lab, Milo, in the back yard waiting for her. Milo carried a sign around his neck that read,”Will you marry my Dad?” Completely swept off her feet, Kelly said, “Yes!” They planned a Tuscan inspired celebration in Kelly’s parent’s backyard for a beautiful summer day in August.

CONTAGIOUS LOVE

Kelly, along with her fabulous wedding planner, Brynn of First Look Events, took inspiration from her parent’s backyard vineyard to create a Tuscan themed day. Everything from the romantic ceremony backdrop to the custom cocktail and dinner menu was thoughtfully designed to tell the story of Kelly and Reid’s contagious love. The couple’s wedding was full of intimate moments, never ending cosmopolitans and heated battles on the dance floor.

BRIDE'S BEST FRIEND

“Although we were a little nervous, and our families thought we were absolutely crazy, Reid and I wanted Milo to walk down the aisle with my nephew. You see, he is the sweetest dog but he is not the best behaved. During the ceremony, he made it down the aisle and sat in the front row perfectly. We were so relieved! Until I saw a barn cat right next to us under the altar.. Milo took off and chased after the cat! About ten minutes later he came stumbling back up the hill with a broken collar. The crowd broke out in full laughter which in turn lightened up the mood a bit. Bless Milo!”

MY GIRL

“I will always cherish dancing with my dad at our reception. I actually bought my dad and I dance lessons before the wedding. As if he needed lessons! He has always been a great dancer which is funny, because I don’t think a lot of people know that about him. On our wedding night we danced to ‘My Girl’ by The Temptations. It was such a special experience for the both of us.”

FOOD HEAVEN

The newlyweds wanted their guest’s dining experience to come to life on their special day. For cocktail hour, Epicurean crafted a custom ice sculpture that poured chilled Cosmopolitans while chefs were on location slicing an assortment of meats and hand pulling fresh mozarella. Large plates of wild boar ragout pasta were served at dinner along with rosemary Lemoncello chicken and black angus tenderloin. Finally, Kelly and Reid offered wood fired pizzas as well as the most delicious Sicilian donuts for a night cap.

ADVICE FOR ROCKY MOUNTAIN COUPLES

“Make your wedding day YOUR wedding day. Things may not go as planned: your dog may chase a cat mid-ceremony, it might rain and you may forget to cut the cake. But enjoy every moment, dance your heart out and don’t sweat the small stuff. Your wedding day is about celebrating your love and the rest of your life. It’s one of the only days that all of your favorite people will be in the same place. Don’t forget that and revel in it!”
