Rosemont College Online Magazine August 2017 COVER STORY
Summer. It is what we dream about all year. Long days and short nights. Time to idle. Time to travel. Time to reflect and relax. Time to just be. And then over far too soon! We at RoCo had fun putting together this issue for you. It is filled with images of how you spent your summer and helpful information for the days ahead. As for us, we spent it preparing for the semester that is now upon us. But, we are hardly complaining. Today is the first day of classes for the Undergraduate College. And, as far as we are concerned, that is as exciting as New Year’s Day. It is a chance to begin again. It is the opportunity to wipe clean the slate of the past and start anew. It is the beginning of an exciting journey for the new students who enter Rosemont’s Undergraduate College as first year or transfer students, and those adult students who begin their studies in the Schools of Graduate and Profes sional Studies. They are all now members of this special place and community we know and love as RoCo. And, how about this fun fact— those beginning the first of their four undergraduate years at Rosemont will graduate in 2021 – the 99th year of Rosemont’s history! How exciting is that? We hope you enjoy this issue of RoCo! Remember, we love to hear from you. So, be in touch. Summer is over, and the semester has begun.
This photo was taken on the dock where I spend a few weeks every summer – at my cottage in Ontario, Canada. My late husband Neil and I bought the cottage in 1997, after we had spent two short vacations at a local lodge and fell in love with the lake. It’s a place where Neil and I made many good memories with our son, Michael. And where I am lucky enough to still be making memories with family and friends who visit every year. I love to fish (bet that comes as a surprise to many of you!), catch up on reading, and do research when I am in Canada – much of that takes place on this very dock. – President Hirsh

Welcome Niki Mendrinos Rosemont’s new VP for Enrollment Management
Why I’m excited to be at Rosemont: You know what they say, good things come in small packages! The people I have met in the short time I have been at Rosemont are truly invested in the mission of this institution and have shared their stories with me about how the POWER of small has impacted students lives on a daily basis. That’s what I’m most excited about: to continue educating prospective students and parents about the impact a Rosemont degree can make. What I hope to accomplish: Rosemont is a hidden gem. My hope as the new VP for Enrollment Management is to make certain our name and the value of a Rosemont degree is well-known.

Archana Ganta ’17 and Aaron Pinninti ’17 during their white coat ceremony at Drexel University School of Medicine.
When the dust had settled, and there was a lot of it as the returning young alumni did not take it easy on each other, it didn’t so much matter which team had won the First Annual Kickball Classic. The jerseys covered in dirt and the smiles on the players’ faces told the real story of the day. A new tradition was born and the enthusiasm these alumni brought to it suggests that it will continue for many years to come.

Oh, yes, we did. Reflect | Renew | Rejoice: The Campaign for Rosemont College has exceeded its goal of $40,000,000, with $40,168,498 raised, as of June 30th. This remarkable achievement would not have been possible without the generosity of so many alumni and donors, particularly the 400 individuals who committed to multi-year pledges to make the goal a reality. The College is grateful to each and every donor for their “yes” to Rosemont’s mission, values, and bright future through their Campaign gifts and pledges. We are also thankful for our Campaign Chairs, Ann ’66 and Charlie Marshall, all of our volunteers, and the staff of the Office of College Relations for the work that they did in ensuring the Campaign’s success. The Campaign has provided the funding for over 8 million dollars of new endowed scholarships, the establishment of the Institute for Ethical Leadership and Social Responsibility, the purchase and renovation of Gracemere Honors House, the construction of the Weisbrod Information Commons in the Kistler Library, the construction of the Ravens’ Athletic Complex, the renovation of Rotwitt Theater of the McShain Performing Arts Center, the Phase One renovation of Cardinal Hall, and over 12 million dollars of operational expenses. In short, the Campaign has transformed Rosemont College.
Students, Faculty, and Staff are invited to celebrate this historic milestone with a toast on Saturday, October 21st 12:00 p.m. Main Building All alumni and friends are welcome to join us via a live web stream at www.rosemont.edu
