Rosemont College Online Magazine October 2017 COVER STORY

As we approach Thanksgiving, we at RoCo have much for which to be grateful. We are a community of lifelong learners dedicated to excellence and joy, and we approach everything on this campus through that lens – both the big and the small. That, in and of itself, is worthy of our collective gratitude. But there is so much more for which to be grateful. There are our students who fill this campus with life, energy, and wonder. There are our faculty members who bring their knowledge, experience, and wisdom into their classrooms every day. There are our staff members who dedicate themselves to enriching life at Rosemont. There are our alumni whose lives are testaments to the value of a Rosemont education and experience. And, there is RoCo itself – a place unlike any other where the POWER of small brings out the best in each of us. This issue of RoCo highlights some of the many things at Rosemont for which we are grateful. We hope you enjoy learning about them, as much as we did! We would like to know the things you are thankful for this Thanksgiving season, so be in touch. We love to hear from you! Happy reading. #RoCoGivesThanks #RoCoLove #RoCo

How to answer the question: For what am I grateful? There are almost too many things to enumerate. My family, of course, especially my son and daughter-in-law. My friends. My good health. My faithful dog, Lucy. My list could go on and on. But, when I stop and consider these first things, and all the other things that would logically follow on my list, I realize that other than my health (and Lucy), it is the people in my life for which I am most thankful. Many of those people are right here at Rosemont. I’m so grateful for my colleagues at the College, whether in the maintenance department or the business office or every other office in between, and their tireless work to enhance the lives of our students. I’m indebted to our gifted faculty, in both the Undergraduate College and the Schools of Graduate and Professional Studies, and their expertise in the classroom that truly brings out the best in each and every student. I’m thankful for the College’s loyal alumni and donors, and their generous support of Rosemont’s present and its future. And, last and most importantly, I am grateful for Rosemont’s students, and how they live the POWER of small in every aspect of their lives. –President Hirsh

I am thankful for the opportunity to receive a college education because so many people are not as fortunate as I am.

– Dillan Leonard ’21

It is that time of year again… when people are running to the food market, seeking clothing sales, watching football, and raking the last of the leaves. Oh yes – it must be Thanksgiving time. The time for a huge meal, a nice new outfit, a good game and a lawn clear of leaves. Though, it might be we are also forgetting something, perhaps the reason for all of the above hustle and bustle. All year, especially as first semester moves along, we keep asking God for help. Maybe with a test, a tough relationship, a family problem or whatever! We seem to never run out of things to ask for. Let’s take a minute to stop and just offer a simple “thank you.” After all, that is the reason for the holiday and the rituals we share to celebrate. We all know one day of remembering to give thanks is not enough when every day of our life holds blessing after blessing. However, it is better than nothing! And as we experience life, may we grow to recognize that each challenge also holds a blessing, for which we say a simple thank you. In this time of world upset, national struggles, and climate crisis, let us thank God for the blessing: to be here in this time, this place, with these people as the Rosemont College Community of lifelong learners trying to make a difference. We thank God for the many people seeking peace and justice among us. Let us thank God for helping us act, not just talk, as we strive for academic excellence and joy in pursuing knowledge. As we enjoy a bountiful feast with family and friends in our new duds and watch football, let us remember to say that simple, “Thank You.”

$40,000,000

This remarkable achievement would not have been possible without the generosity of so many alumni and donors, particularly the 400 individuals who committed to multi-year pledges to make the goal a reality. The College is grateful to each and every donor for their “yes” to Rosemont’s mission, values, and bright future through their Campaign gifts and pledges. We are also thankful for our Campaign Chairs, Ann ’66 and Charlie Marshall, all of our volunteers, and the staff of the Office of College Relations for the work that they did in ensuring the Campaign’s success.

Students, Faculty, and Staff are invited to celebrate this historic milestone with a toast on Saturday, October 21st 12:00 p.m. Main Building
