Community News Proposals for Angel’s Landing announced One of the few vacant plots of land in the Bunker Hill area of downtown Los Angeles will soon be home to an iconic new building, following a recently completed request for proposals by the City of Los Angeles. The land at the corner of 4th Street and Hill Street, adjacent to Angels Flight and California Plaza, has been named Angel’s Landing and three groups of developers have made their final proposals to the city for use of the 2.4 acre parcel. The projects vary in design but all tower over 80 stories high and designate space for residences and hotels, as well as for different educational projects. One proposal would set aside space for an urban campus for UCLA, while the other two projects include room for elementary schools. All three proposals call for expansive public space and incorporate the hillside location into their designs. City officials are expected to select the winning proposal by the end of the year.

Brewpub planned for Union Station Cedd Moses and Eric Needleman of 213 Hospitality have announced plans to open a brewpub in Union Station in downtown LA. Moses and Needleman originally entered into a lease back in 2014, but are only now moving forward with their plans, hiring David Lentz from Hungry Cat to handle the menu, and putting Eric Alperin from The Varnish in charge of cocktails. The restaurant will

occupy the Fred Harvey Room, a beautiful Art Deco space that was previously home to a World War II-era restaurant that was popular with soliders traveling to and from the station. 213 Hospitality also operates other historically-themed bars like Seven Grand, Casey’s Irish Pub and Cole’s, assuring that the space’s classic charm will remain intact. An official timeline has not been announced, but indications are that the new pub will open in early 2018.

Construction underway on Hollywood apartments

More apartments are coming to Hollywood, with construction un¬derway at a new residential project at La Brea Ave. and Willoughby Ave. The building will stand seven stories tall and consist of 169 apartments, as well as 37,000 square feet of ground floor retail space and a subterranean parking structure. The apartments will be built in studio, one- and two-bedroom layouts with the developers setting aside 14 units for very lowincome households. Construction is expected to be completed by 2019.

Community News ‘Saved by the Bell’ themed restaurant coming to WeHo

Uber to bring flying taxis to Los Angeles

A theme restaurant based on the classic 90’s T V show “Saved by the Bell” will soon be coming to West Hollywood. Located in the shopping center at La Brea Ave. and Santa Monica Blvd., the restaurant will be styled to resemble ‘ The Max’, the neonhued diner where the show’s teen characters would gather after school. The culinary tribute to 90’s pop culture follows a pop-up version of the concept that had a successful run in Chicago last spring. Unlike other restaurants, however, this project charges patrons a flat rate, with food, beverages, and entertainment included in the price of admission.

Ride sharing pioneer Uber recently announced plans to bring a fly-on-demand rideshare service to the Los Angeles area by 2020. Named UberAir, the service would utilize electrical vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL’s) that would allow passengers to beat ground traffic by flying above it, travelling in four passenger vehicles that will take off and land at 20 rooftop bases around the city. With their proposed vehicles capable of flying 200 mph, the company estimates that a 1½ hour commute could be reduced to 30 minutes, for a cost similar to what would be charged by an UberX car for the same distance. Proponents of the project claim that short-distance aircraft will reduce congestion and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as offer customers a transportation option that will reduce time spent on the road.
