Why Choose Roedean?

Located on the cliffs near the bustling city of Brighton, and overlooking the English Channel, Roedean is a beacon of excellence in all-girls’ education, offering boarding and day places to girls aged 11 to 18. Roedean has a rich heritage dating back to 1885 and has consistently championed the holistic development of young women, empowering them to discover their extraordinary potential. At Roedean, we believe that an all-girls ‘education is transformative. Free from gender stereotypes, our students are empowered to take on leadership roles, excel in STEM subjects, and pursue their passions without limitations. Research shows that girls in single-sex schools perform better academically and develop higher selfesteem. We are a school that welcomes students from all over the world. The diversity enriches our students’ educational experience, fostering global awareness and cultural understanding. Roedean students develop the confidence to express their own voice and the self-belief to realise that anything is possible.

Boarding and Pastoral

Roedean’s boarding experience offers a welcoming home away from home, with options for full, weekly, and flexi boarding. The boarding environment is thoughtfully designed to nurture independence, resilience, and personal growth in a supportive and enriching setting. Each of the six beautifully decorated boarding houses provides a comfortable and homely atmosphere, where every student is valued, and every voice is heard. Junior boarders in Years 7 to 9 typically share rooms, while students in Year 10 and above enjoy the privacy of their own rooms. The houses feature a variety of common areas where students can relax with friends, play games, watch movies, or engage in activities like house bingo, all while connecting with boarding staff after a busy day. Over the weekends students enjoy a diverse range of activities organised by their boarding houses. From shopping and crafting to go-karting and baking, and even trips to London, there is always something exciting to look forward to. Roedean’s boarding provision ensures a balanced and fulfilling experience, preparing students for future challenges while offering unwavering support and a strong sense of community throughout their time at the school.
