PARENT/GUARDIAN BULLETIN: 9 Week Commencing Monday 7 November 2022

Charity Donations 2022-2023 Each year, the Roedean community is proud to support a range of different charities, many local, as well as national campaigns. During the pandemic, we used a cashless system for making donations, which many parents reported to be convenient and simple – if you would like any donations to be added to your daughter’s school bill, please use this wufoo form: Charity Donations Form. Over the next few weeks, we will be supporting the Poppy Appeal and Children in Need – you are invited to make donations to these charities on the above form. Your daughter will be able to collect a poppy in School before Friday 11 November, and she can accessorise her uniform with something spotty to mark Children in Need on Friday 18 November. You are, of course, welcome to hand in cash donations to the School Office, if you would prefer to do so. In addition, each year-group is focusing their charity fund-raising this year on one specific charity to make it more tangible: Year Group

Pastoral Notices Girls on Board Event – 1 November On Wednesday we were delighted to welcome ‘Girls on Board’ founder Andrew Hampton, who came to speak to parents in Key Stage 3 about supporting their daughters navigate friendships. As Andrew puts it, “Girls on Board is an approach which helps girls, their parents, and their teachers to understand the complexities and dynamics of girl friendships. The language, methods and ideas empower girls to solve their own friendship problems and recognises that they are usually the only ones who can. By empowering girls to find their own solutions, parents need worry less, schools can focus more on the curriculum and the girls learn more effectively – because they are happier.” Roedean will be exploring the ‘Girls on Board approach with pupils in Key Stage 3 in the coming weeks.

If you would like to watch Andrew’s thought-provoking and engaging talk it can be found here: https://vimeo.com/767225037/0f43b6b0b1

General Notices Roedean Christmas Shopping Guide We are currently putting together the Christmas Shopping Guide for the Autumn issue of the Roedeanian Magazine. This is a great opportunity to advertise your business (for free) to ORs, former staff, and parents, and previous issues have included everything from vintage clothing and pyjamas, to artwork, candles, homewares, books and food. Previously this has just featured Old Roedeanian businesses, but this year we would like to open it up to the whole Roedean community, so if you run a business producing great Christmas gifts, then please get in touch with Grace Chaston on glc@roedean.co.uk. To be featured, we would just need an image that represents your business, a few words about your products, and a link to the best place to purchase them. You can view last year’s guide here.
