Admissions Overview At Roedean, we aim to make the admissions process as smooth and informative as possible. We understand that choosing the right senior school for your daughter is a big decision, and we will help in any way we can. Our Deputy Director of Admissions, Ms Joanna Clarke and Deputy Registrar Mrs Emma Shelver, are supported by Mrs Hayley Chinnery, and they will be your main points of contact throughout the admissions process. The team will be happy to discuss any questions you may have along the way.
You are, of course, most welcome to visit the School; this is the best way to find out what makes a Roedean education so unique. You can find out more about our three Open Days each year and individual visits on the relevant page on our website. Year 7, Year 9, and Sixth Form are the main entry points, but a good number of girls join the school in Year 8 and Year 10 each year; the admissions process is the same for all years. Overseas Admissions Roedean is always delighted to consider bright, high-achieving students who seek to enter top UK schools and world-class universities. This is a rolling admissions process, and we welcome applications at any time of year for entry into Years 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, our One-Year GCSE Academic Programme and our Pre-A Level Programme; however, we advise early application during the Autumn Term preceding the September of entry in order to ensure boarding places are available. Each year, strong overseas and international candidates join the school in the same way as those from the UK. A reasonable level of fluency in English and good understanding of it from the outset are expected, so that the girls can access the curriculum well and make good progress. Applicants to Year 12 and our One-Year GCSE Programme are expected to be working at the equivalent of IELTS 6.5-7 (CEFR C1) in English. We do however offer a great deal of extra language support to our international students where it is needed.

Stage 1: Enquiry Pupils applying from outside the United Kingdom can do so via an educational agency or directly to the School. A full school report and UKiset report is required prior to registration, for consideration by our Admissions team. Worldwide educational provision varies enormously from country to country, so at Roedean we ask all pupils applying to us from outside the EU whose first language is not English to take the UKiset online tests for screening purposes. These tests have been specifically designed for international pupils and measure ability over four areas: non-verbal, verbal, quantative and spatial reasoning. Tests can be organised in centres around the world and details are on the UKiset website: www.ukiset.com. We would be delighted to discuss an application and talk you through the process; please introduce the applicant to us by providing us with her details, her latest school report and her UKiset report (where applicable).

Stage 2: Registering your daughter
Overseas Scholarships
You will be invited to register upon receipt of a satisfactory school report and UKiset (where applicable). Once your daughter is registered, it is important to move towards entrance exams and interview as soon as possible, and we will keep you updated with any information regarding these exams, as well as future events at Roedean which may be of interest.
Roedean is delighted to offer prestigious awards for overseas students. At Roedean, scholarships are available to new entrants to the school in order to recognise academic excellence or musical ability, in order to help extend and challenge girls to fulfil their potential; all scholars at Roedean are fully involved in our Scholars’ programme. If you wish to apply for a scholarship, please fill out the overseas scholarship application form on our website.
Stage 3: Assessment Years 7-10, One-Year GCSE Academic Programme and Pre-A Level Programme: Entry is assessed by means of entrance exams in English, Maths, and Non-Verbal Reasoning. These can be sat either at local British Council offices, at an educational agent’s offices, or at your daughter’s current school. A Skype interview will be arranged for successful candidates to complete the admissions process. Year 12: Entry is assessed by means of entrance exams in English, Maths, and Non-Verbal Reasoning. Non-native speakers also sit the Oxford Online Placement Test. These can be sat either at local British Council offices, at an educational agent’s offices, or at your daughter’s current school. A Skype interview will be arranged for successful candidates to complete the admissions process.
Newnham Scholarships (Year 12 only) The Newnham Scholarships are the highest and most fiercely-competitive academic award available at Roedean, worth 10% of full boarding fees, and all are awarded based on performance in the entrance tests, assessments if relevant, and interview. The Newnham Scholarships are awarded to the best international boarding applicants. Academic and Music Scholarships These scholarships are available to overseas students with outstanding ability and potential, who are academically able or who are talented musicians. These are honorary scholarships which carry a small award for scholarship-related activities.
At a later point, after the place has been accepted, students will choose three subjects they would like to study at A Level and sit a 30 minute paper in each of these. This will help place students on the best A Level Programme of Study for them, and will help us to assess whether any academic provision or preparation will be required ahead of the September start.
Stage 4: Offers Once a place has been offered, there is usually a 2 week acceptance deadline. In order to secure the place, you will need to return the completed acceptance form, along with a full deposit.

Fees and Charges Registration Fee £150 is payable with the application, and is nonrefundable.
Deposit For students whose normal residence is outside the UK, a deposit of a full term’s fees is paid to accept the offer at Roedean Unless stated otherwise, all deposits are refunded without interest after the pupil has left the School and after all fees and ‘extras’ have been settled. If the pupil does not take up the accepted place, the deposit is non-refundable.
Fees for 2022-23 These are the termly fees for the academic year 2022-23. At Year 7 in particular, we believe that this exciting fee structure allows access to the school to a wider range of students than has previously been the case.

These fees will be subject to the annual standard of living increase.

All fees include text books and appropriate stationery up to GCSE level.

A further charge of £1,045 per term is applicable for the Language Pathway Course.

An additional fee of £1,585 per term is made in respect of boarders entering the Sixth Form directly.
FEES AND CHARGES
Charges for Extra Subjects and Activities Full details of subjects/activities offered are available on the Fees page of our website. Written permission of the parent or guardian is required before a pupil can be accepted for tuition in an extra subject/ activity. Since payment has to be made to the teachers concerned, subjects or activities may only be terminated at the end of the term, for which half of one term’s notice in writing is required. If a subject or activity is discontinued during a term, the whole of that term’s charge will be payable. Where pupils require private academic coaching, a separate written contract between the parents and the School will be completed.
