GIVE IT A GO! Reinvent your spare time

What is Give AGo? Go! What is Give It It A Give it a Go or ‘G.I.A.G’ is a scheme aimed at bringing students and staff together in a pro-active way. One of the best things about the various activities involved with Give it a Go is that it’s pretty much pay as you go or you can pay upfront for a course. Remember you can be as involved or absent as you like, there’s something for everyone. Give it a Go provides activities in four main areas: Trips Away, Activities, Volunteering and Keep Fit which is run by our partners at Roe-Active. These areas provide a range of activity for the students and staff, Providing something new to do when watching DVD’s and cookery shows become too boring (rare I know), and at really competitive prices, we know that its perfect for the average student wallet! SO GO ON REINVENT YOUR SPARE TIME WITH GIVE IT A GO!!

Trips Away

Volunteering

Keep Fit

‘Give it a Go: Trips away’ is exactly what it says it is. It provides great trips throughout the year at prices that make a student smile, for students to take the opportunity to go somewhere new, meet new people, or have fun with people you already know. Whether you go alone or in a group I guarantee that these trips are a great way to get out there and have fun without damaging your wallet!

‘Give it a Go: Activities’ provides students with all sorts of activities to get involved in and there is something for everyone. Again these activities are for everyone and at very reasonable prices. If you have ever thought about trying something new, whether it is for fun or to pick up a new skill then this is the place for you. There is no joining fee and there are flexible payment options from pay as you go to signing up and paying for a whole course.

‘Give It a Go’: Volunteering This year Wandsworth council has teamed up with the RSU, Student services and University to sign post and provide students with a variety of different volunteering opportunities. Whether it is gaining work experience related to your degree, like teaching, volunteering to help out at Union Campaigns and events, fundraising, giving back to the community, learning new skills or helping out with sports coaching and activities, the list is endless. Students can do something they enjoy and gain certificates and experience that will jazz up the old CV and give them accreditation.

Keep Fit with Roe-Active: This year Keep fit classes will be run by our partners at RoeActive who have a range of different fitness classes for all from Zumba to Yoga. You may not want to go to the gym or be a part of a sports team so why not join a class and get those joints moving! There are Flexible paying options at £2 a go or free with Gym membership.

GIVE IT A GO! Reinvent your spare time

“As a total gym phobic it is a tribute to the openness and friendliness of ROEActive staff that I have started virtually every working day there since it opened in January. When I have visited gyms in the past I have found them to be quite intimidating and I have felt quite out of place I them. I have found ROEActive to be welcoming no matter what your level of fitness is or what type of exercise you want to do. Perhaps the best advert for the place is that my weight and my blood pressure have all significantly reduced since I first started attending!” Keith “I started the gym at the end of June as it was free for new staff members over the summer months. The gym staff are very friendly and helpful; it’s also nice to other Roehampton staff there too. Since joining I have lost weight and toned up, I also have more energy. It’s so convenient to be able to leave work and be there in 5 minutes so there is no excuse not to attend. I am considering joining in September.” Louise Ward “First class facilities, and easy access to equipment combined with friendly and knowledgeable staff makes ROEActive the best workout environment I’ve encountered.” Simon Machin “Always a warm welcome when I arrive, no matter the time of day. With extended opening hours the gym offers me the chance of setting myself up for my working day or work out all my energy at the end of my day. The facilities are well laid out and someone is always at hand to help, and give advice on getting a full work out.” Rachael J
