New for 2011/2012 – 24 hour opening During this academic year we will be running a pilot scheme and opening for 24 hours at key times of the year and in addition to this opening on some additional Sundays..
OPENING HOURS
How will it work? During a 24 hour opening period will open at 0800 on a Sunday and then remain open till 2100 the following Friday. Normal hours will resume on Saturday (1100-1800) with Sunday following the aforementioned pattern.
Will there be help available? During the night shifts (2100 – 0800) there will be 2 Library staff and 1 security guard on duty in the building. Library staff will be able to offer a basic Library Non-Core service but there will be no IT support.
We try to ensure that we maintain our advertised opening hours however users are advised to always check the Library web site for information about opening before setting out on their journey to reach us.

The Library runs core/staffed and non core/self service hours during both term time and vacation periods. Full services are only available during core service hours when user demand is at its highest, and as such staff resources are concentrated during this period. As a result there are some limits to the level of service provided outside of these core hours.

How do I access resources? To access e-resources on campus you will normally only need to click on the link from the catalogue, from Moodle or from Resource Lists.

Moodle is the University’s Virtual Learning Environment and is used by lecturers to present and deliver a wide variety of resources and activities including module learning and teaching materials and online learning activities and assessments. It is also used to submit your work to Turnitin, the University’s plagiarism detection software.

The Library has a code of conduct which has been drawn up in response to student feedback to help make the Library a safe and welcoming place to work, learn and study.
Drinking
Users must at all times behave considerately and show respect towards others working in the Library.
You may drink non-alcoholic beverages in most areas of the Library but please dispose of litter in recycling bins provided. In silent study areas only water is permitted.
Mobile phones
Clean and tidy
It is best practice to switch your phone to silent when you enter the Library.Vibrate and silent texting functions are alright in most areas.Calls can only be made and received in designated areas. When you are in a silent area please switch your phone off so that it doesn’t disturb others.
Please help to keep the Library clean and tidy for all users by keeping rubbish to a minimum and placing it in the recycling bins provided.

CODE OF CONDUCT
Noise/Talking Though we want to encourage collaborative learning in designated social/group study areas users should remember that this is an academic library. As such, behaviour should be suitable for your surroundings and any noise kept to an appropriate level in all areas of the Library. You should always observe the silence rule in designated silent study areas. Please note that Library staff may ask you to move if you are
being too noisy or behaving inappropriately in any area of the Library.
Carrying ID You should carry your University ID/Library card with you at all times and be prepared to show it on request. Please do not lend your ID/Library card to anyone else. A current and valid University ID/Library card is needed to gain access to the Library and to borrow Library stock.
Studying Areas are zoned for different types of study and the Library has social/group study areas and areas for quiet/individual and silent study. There are also Presentation rooms and study rooms which you can book online to work in small groups or on your own.
Using PCs PCs in the Library are in high demand. It is best to try and avoid using them for social activities so that they are available to maximum numbers of students for study purposes. Please logout of your PC when you are taking a break so that others can make use of the
equipment and to keep your account secure.
Observing copyright legislation There are laws surrounding copyright. Please read the guidelines and advice available on the website and on display in the Library before making photocopies, printing or scanning.
Using laptops We ask that you observe safety regulations by not trailing wires across the floor as this can be a trip hazard. You should not connect your laptop to any other University equipment such as printers.
Looking after your belongings You should keep your belongings and your valuables with you at all times. Please do not leave them unattended.
