SCENARIO 01 We keep working in the studio, but we are pretending relax near the furniture called nature.

SCENARIO 04 We keep working but it seems that the whole school of architecture likes playground.

First, the designed furniture intensify human adapta on ver cally rather than the ac vi es now only forced on the ground floor. The overlaying relaonship will display in the hight we elevate it to 10 meters. Second, the rela onship with columns: They can use columns as structural supported furniture that can be transformed individually according to the density of columns. And the movement of each furniture is according to its size.

SCENARIO 02 Behavior of copycat in the studio-not only coping the works but also peeping private lives of others.

SCENARIO 03 we could have more exercise when we produce more wastes in a day. Also, it’s a long route for lover to be up to the roof as a secret da ng place

Each of the furniture is response one ques on we want to ask about nowadays the school of architecture. In the pedagogical model for architectural school, we ques on 18 problems among environment, rela onships, and huminity all related to ruled architectural lives in the present. Some are obvious to detect, while others are too unapparent to points out. In this project, each furniture not only have its special es but also highlight the metaphor of school problems to intrgue more discussion and improvement in the future. When we construct the whole plan, it is not only the formal rela onship between structure and furniture but also the imformality and conflicts among the furnitures’ cluster. 5

Different light formaons have different quality of atmosphere. Behind the adver sing board we have more op on to choose the light we want to let it in. The color signage boards create the different atmosphere, compare to the nature light.

STEP01: start to use the piano wire to iden fy the space and the boundary. By this way we want to blur the boundary between the skins.

STEP02: reinforce the structure. This strategy not only for the structure but for the space quality and try to iden fy where we will insert the program and also the rela onship.

STEP03: insert the program, the black and white one is our memorial space and exis ng program, the colorful one is the New Public Space we want to create, the New Public Space started to glue each other

STEP04: start to use the light, not only for reinforcing and seducing light, also have the opportunity to block the light and prevent they emi ed.

They need a lot of investments to win the compe on. Otherwise, they will become the buildings which are unno ced. The adver sements run 24/7 and constantly communicate with the massive number of visitors. Thus light signage and keep opening light between each building becomes the con nuously light landscape. There are opportuni es that we can re-use the light emi ed from the light signage. And also contributed the benefit to building’s owner. This way can let us response to light pollu on and capture the light, seduce them to the indoor. FOR EXAMPLE: porous and reflect surface. The signage within Times Square becomes the anchor. And this light landscape can become the new type of memorial space. Light landscape can also become an opportunity to let people embrace the death by using the over waste energy. The digital screen not only indicates compe on but become the tool to light up the memorial. 9

Pao by Toyo Ito, the nomadism to describe the huge consumpon age, how the woman to spend her daily life and also this idea can amplify the enactment with the daily life and gadgets. And this consumerism project indicated the possibility that ul mately, city will become the con nuously home and become more and more domes c. What if these domes c part become more and more dras c and polemic. What kind of appearance this city will become. This studio dealing with the universal issues. Including representa on of architectural concept, how to modify the city to have the typological correct, and increase the possibility within the city center. Proposed the mega system to deal with universal program within Mumbai and create the opportunity to let people can live together and this city finally become the con nuously home.

Recognize the anchor to let infiltrators infiltrate. The void becomes the tool and also the place to let things happen. Void has dierent typology and type, not only inside the block but also surrounding the block. This void right now is the useless place and is the blank within the city. I started to release this void and let them have the new opportunity. The other

scale is the urban infrastructure, the subway which is the upcoming construc on in this city. The future condi on along this line will become the huge void. And also using the infrastructure, the resources and waste can easily to be delivered. These two dierent scale become two anchors can let infiltrators infiltrate into this city. The void becomes the tool, the place to let things happen. Start to release this void and let them have the new opportunity.

Life & Death 04Between urban funeral landscape thesis cri c: YU-CHANG LIAN Site Loca on: Taichung, Taiwan Project Program: Funeral home Program Used: Rhinoceros, V-Ray, 3D Studio Max, AutoCad, Adobe Photoshop, Indesign, and Illustator, Handdrawing, Model Making

Funeral Home is a place in the city regarding life and death. Ci es in my homeland island country Taiwan develop rapidly, and they are all overcrowded. Therefore, the ceremony at a funeral becomes more func onal than spiritual, which gradually turns the funeral home a fearful place. However, the rela onship between the city’s funeral home and the ci zens should be changed. Examine the current funeral home and urban space, Chung Cheng Park. To re-construct and organize it into a new urban dwelling.

0 Park There is the funeral ceremony’s start and also the serious of process can console human’s mind. When roof’s crack were penetrated by light, the sound from park seems enter this funeral home, too.

5 Cosmetizing room The emo ons begin to accumulate. The trees can be seen through the crack and the natural light and sound can accompany people as they see their family members for the last me during the make up procedure.

10 Under the restroom The sky and wetlands provide people yet another break point so they can go upstairs to have chance to see the whole park, and provide another emo on transi on.

1 Entrance Of cause, the vibrate. Let people once enter this funeral home can no ce that they are under this park and people in the park can see the exist of funeral home.

6 Casketin room The room’s func on is very similar to the cosme zing room and can keep people’s emo ons at the high de and con nue the accumula on process.

11 outside the hall The passageway located between the worship hall and wetlands serves as a path linking death and life. When people feel the sorrow, they can remind themselves that death dose not mean an end, but means another beginning.

2 Hospice room This is the first step of the funeral ritual. People can repose themselves by a tree, and calm down by the small ponds. Let their minds se le down at their most bereaved moments..

7 The plaza Another break point can bring in more outside atmosphere and also help par cipants take a break during this intense ceremony.

12 Worship hall The final step and also the most important step is to wish the dead to rest in peace. This place is surrounded by bamboos which mean “longevity” in Chinese culture. The light can climb down from the roof hole and splash through the bamboo leaves.

3 Freezing room Pass through the spa al interface to guild their family remains. The light penetrates and projects itself through the crack onto the underground —the lead light and shadow can interact with each other, providing this place a sense of tranquility.

8 Path to reposing A row of trees stand to provide the place for people to rest while signaling people that they are about to enter the next ceremony process.

13 The path to the end The last chance to see their lost family member. Light, wetlands, trees, the park, and walls can seem very different from the beginning. And these ever-las ng elements let people have the courage to keep going in the future.

4 The plaza The plaza if full of sounds from the outside and inside and can provide people with a break point for emo ons.

9 Reposing room Another ceremony process begins. Light, trees, sound, vibra on, the special wall and so on all come together here to remind people that they will enter the ceremony’s final step and also let people no ce that they are s ll under the park.

Death is not scary. Death is natural and necessary so people can learn to cherish life more. Actually, it is within the most basic elements in life that people can find strength to face death. And in the funeral process, these elements should present themselves as I have planned in my work. That’s the power of architecture. 23

When I worked in Yilan Dis llery, I was responsible for the building extension project. There was a green pipe designed from the landscape of Yilan and urban inspira ons. we can see how it embraces the history and structure of the dis llery. The steel pipes of the rack reformed from original pipe lines also present the interac on between humans and the environment. The mul func onal structure derived from a normal rack is not just an ordinary construc on but a remarkable installa on which reflects history and people. sec on
