Difference Between Sapphire And Ruby Stone

There are plethora of similarity between sapphire and ruby stone that makes it difficult to distinguish between ruby and sapphire. However, in this ppt, we have tried to highlight main difference between ruby and sapphire


 The name sapphire is derived from Latin word “Saphirus” which means blue color.  Whereas, The name ruby derives from Latin word “ Rubeus” which means light to dark red color.


The sapphire belong to the corundum family and on moh scale its hardness can be measured 9.0. Similarly, the ruby stone also belong to corundum family and its hardness is also same as sapphire.


 The Sapphire stone is mined from the places like India, Rhodesia, Burma, America, Australia and SriLanka.  Whereas, The ruby gemstone is mined from Burma, Thailand, Kabul, India and U.S.A.


 The value of ruby stone is more than diamond by the fact that from few years the ruby stone popularity has surpassed the popularity of Diamond.  The Sapphire is also immensely popular however it can’t compete with diamond stone.


 The Sapphire stone is considered to be the birthstone of month September as per astrological traditions.  The ruby stone is acknowledged to be the birthstone of month July and Leo sign.


 The Sapphires are widely being used in jewelry due to its large varieties of color.  The red color ruby is also used widely for jewelry items.  However, the sapphire precedes ruby due to its capability to offer different colors.
