INFORMATION COMMONS
EXTENSION TO BUFFALO NIAGRA PUBLIC LIBRARY The design attempts to address the complex dynamics of public space by merely exaggerating the public functions, and user experiences which Lafayette square has provided over the years. An Information Commons as an extension to the existing Buffalo Niagara Public Library will redefine the public realm of downtown Buffalo. Located, at the end of Buffalo’s most prominent axis and adjoining one of the city’s most prominent Squares imparts massive potential for the project to reactivate the passive plaza that currently leads to the existing library. This design concept attempts to utilize the site location to create an appropriate culmination to the existing axis while creating maximum interactions with its immediate surroundings. Lafayette square is one of the most historic central public squares in the city and has a strong relation to the existing library building. However these two prominent public spaces, the space of the Square and the public space of the Library are poorly connected. The design intervention proposes to create a portal to link these public spaces of the city by creating pedestrian connection between Lafayette Square and the bus terminal under the existing public library. The plaza on the ground level will promote free pedestrian movement and serve as is a place for cultural activities, food stalls and cafes and provide direct connection to the library auditorium from the city axis. The gradual pedestrian ramp transports the user into the existing structure while the Information Commons building floats above, providing impressive views of Lafayette square and City Hall located on the other end of the axis. The design form opens out both in vertical as well as horizontal axis onto the city innitiating a dialogue with the existing city fabric which seems lacking in the platonic form of the existing library building.
STUDIO 2014
Public access from Broadway.
Orienting the internal spaces with Buffalo’s premier city axis with the City Hall on the farther end as a backdrop, offering the library patrons an impressive view of the city’s renouned architectural history.
THE CUBE
KUNSTHALE Located in the previously industrial district of the Junction, the kunsthalle will provide a significant stimulus for further redevelopment of the district into an arts and cultural hub as observed lately. The gallery is an object suspended in space in form of a cube that is rooted in the site context strongly yet projecting a distinct identity in the urban fabric. Urbanistically the project reactivates the challenging site while aiming to engage the pedestrians, patrons, immediate community as well as the city as a whole in a critical dialogue with one another. The pedestrianized ground plane and depressed landscape creates multiple possibilities for public gatherings and functions. A variety of exhibition spaces having multiple volumetric as well as lighting variations provide a possibility to cater to needs of artists to exhibit works. The design evolved with critical conversations, debates and discussions with art directors and curators of various art galleries to create a strong yet subtle architectural presence as an envelope that will provide prominence to the art it houses.

FRAMING CINEMA DAKAR
The questions that are most commonly asked regarding the role of cinema in a society often pertain to its immediate experience - Is it a window to escape reality? Is it a window which presents reality? Historically, Senegal has had a number of filmmakers who have achieved wide spread international recognition by providing a window into Senegalese culture. Film can also provide a window out to the alternative conditions that exist in faraway places. Currently downtown Dakar has almost no films theaters, potentially creating a cultural isolation. For much of the time since the 1890s, cinematography, including the industries associated with both the shooting and development of film, was an expensive proposition available to only a few. Film Theaters were the infrastructural extension of this expensive art form. New mobile technologies have emerged which, although not eliminating the need for Cinema, allow the viewer to conceive of themselves as not simply ‘viewers’ through the window of cinema, but as empowered potential authors of their own works. This proposal for the [AC-CA] Temporary Cinema in Dakar is meant to spur spontaneous engagement (and potential authorship) through its serendipitous location in the busy but inaccessible port and the juxtaposition of traditional craft materials used to create a public viewing space.
COMPETITION 2015
The Construction The form and enclosure of the [AC-CA] Dakar Temporary Theater has been generated from the appropriation of products of the shipping, fishing and the textile industries which are central to the economy of the city of Dakar. The suspended roof sculpture is constructed using the construction techniques, craft and materials of the traditional Senegalese fishing boat. This structure will be hoisted into place to float inside the port crane runway, forming a roof above the temporary tiered seating. This space will be enclosed on the sides by walls constructed of traditional Senegalese textiles. Each of these elements is readily available and draws upon local material culture. However, the use of these elements is not meant to evoke a composed regionalism, but rather, to evoke the often disconcerting juxtaposition found in film montage. The appropriation of the abandoned port crane runway the design creates a much needed public space at the iconic Dakar harbor, at times during the day providing an open space where viewing is subtly directed at the historic, but tragic Gore Island.

FLEXIBLE HOUSING COASTER HOUSE
A house is not merely a rigid structure but a constant evolution of spaces. Coasters provided us a visual for spacial combinations in a house. The Coaster House incorporates movement creating these spacial combinations. These iterations allow to best suit the diverse aspirations of its changing occupants. It is an eclectic insertion in an urban environment relying on adaptability and flexibility as its core design idea. The architectural shell encloses the living spaces. A set of three identical rooms with different uses set on fixed tracks that interchange positions, create three architectural interior possibilities. The bedroom is placed above these family rooms overlooking a versatile double height volume which is the epicentre of activity in the house. The Coaster House is compact and scaled for human comfort, relevant to context in a dense and dynamic urban setting. By addressing the challenge of innovatively adapting from the needs of a single occupant to a large family the Coaster House displays a sustainable model of housing in the increasingly dense cities of today.
COMPETITION 2016
MODULAR OUTBACK AUSTRALIA
For a sustainable, portable and affordable housing typology in tropical climate of northern Australian outback, the design uses an collapsible prefabricated dual shipping container housing unit as a basic concept. The shells of the containers slide out when unloaded to create living spaces for a 2 bedroom 2 bath house for a small family. The house is built for mobility and easy transportation into the Australian outback, where the units can create new settlements or help in expansions of the existing ones. The windcatchers of the middle east act as precedent studies and are modified into the units for passive ventilation in the hot and humid climate. Locally sourced material such as bamboo, bamboo boards, jute threads as well as scrap insulating materials form a strong sustainable material palette. The modules also act as a canvas to express and exhibit native Aboriginal art work, imparting a unique character to the settlements while acting as an economic stimulus to the local crafts and culture.
COMPETITION 2013
Compact indoor spaces
URBAN GROWTH To cope with the rapidly increasing need for affordaable urban and semi-urban housing, ‘Modular Outback’ communities provide a quick and cost effective answer. DISASTER REHABILITATION The mobility of the modules make them effective and efficient resource as temporary or permanent shelters in natural disaster struck regions. HEALTH + COMMUNITY PODS ‘Modular Outback’ is easy to modify for community or healthcare application and can be a powerful tool to reach out to farfetched rural communities. primary healthcare clinics, schools or community centre uses can be easily accommodated in the design with minor alterations to the interior design.

The project is a 5,000 sqft. Sports lounge at the basement of the Dream Midtown Hotel in New York City. The space creates a classy and game lounge ambience with ample room for events and live music performances. The warm bohemian and rustic material palette compliments the vintage arcade games that intends to create a unique lively experience for the patrons. Fishbowl sports a mini Bowling Alley integrated into the space. Custom furniture and curved upholstery panels on the ceiling soften the spatial feel. Art work on the walls and the entrance elevator was extensively designed and comissioned to enhance the sporty spirit of the lounge. PRIMAL CUT STEAKHOUSE, EXTERNAL FACADE JOSH HELD DESIGN The speciality steakhouse in the gentleman’s club demanded a strong yet subtle material palette that complimented the mood and energy of the space. The use of rich dark wood finish on the floor, walls and the ceiing with curated use of brass and stone imparts the space a masculine vibe. Custom banquettes and a custom fabricated metal screen are the highlights of the space.

RE-THINKING RE-DEVELOPMENT DHARAVI, MUMBAI, INDIA
Evolving an Industrial + Residential redevelopment strategy The design studio focussed on intense research and reimagining the living and working conditions of the recycling district of Dharavi, Mumbai’s largest informal settlement. Unlike other settlements around the world, Dharavi is home to over 5000 small scale industrial and commercial units generating over a billion dollars in annual turnover, making it an attractive place for rural migrants from all over India. With a population density of over 100,000 per square kilometer, living and working conditions in Dharavi are congested and often sub-standard, raising plans to wipe out it’s culturaly and economically rich fabric for generic redevelopment schemes by government & developers. The design aims to create a module for work and living areas which takes into account Dharavi’s demographics, existing social, cultural and economic factors to create a strategy for systematic and phased redevelopment of its neighborhoods. It is highly essential not only to provide better housing and work environments for the present but to create a typology that may address the anticipated growth and Density in Dharavi in the future. Sustainability of the proposal can be achieved only with an active partnership between the Slum Redevelopment Authority and the residents and local businesses of Dharavi.
