Traveling is fun but it can play havoc with your skin. For example, when traveling from a moist climate like Florida to a dryer climate like Arizona, you may not immediately realize how skin your dry can get. The next thing you know you are staring in the mirror at cracked lips and not so glowing skin. The easy answer is to carry Chapstick with you, at all times, and to drink lots of water, no matter where you go. Just the act of flying can dry you out. So instead of going for the booze, decide on the water. It will help you stay hydrated and even help with jet lag. Also skip the salted nuts and bring your own healthy snacks on board. Apples and carrot sticks are good choices. Or you can pick up a frozen yogurt from the airport cafes. Stay away from the processed foods that the airlines traditionally offer up. They are tempting but have no nutritional value and the salt content will just bloat you. Next remember to bring a good moisturizer and a gentle cleanser. Your skin may change while you travel so get a mild cleanser. If you are going to a dryer climate you may need to switch from your normal normal to oily to a normal to dry conditioner. Also you may want to get a small spray bottle and fill it with filtered water. Spritz your skin occasionally to keep it hydrated. Now if you are going to a more moisture filled climate like Florida has, go with a lighter skin moisturizer. You will find that the humidity will affect both your skin and your hair. Plus the water has more chlorine in it. So either carry a shower filter with you that you can attach to your hotel shower head or get a really good hair moisturizer. Then to keep the frizz away get a good anti-frizz product like John Frieda. Especially in the summer, you will need this to keep your hair from having a million fly away. Also remember your sunscreen, especially in warmer climates. You will tan far more easily and need this extra protection to prevent burns and other skin damage. If you are going into the cooler weather rejoice. Your hair will suddenly begin to behave and have a natural shine. Your skin may get a bit dryer so get a good body moisturizer, as well as a good hydrating lotion for your face but on the bright side the cold should make your cheeks naturally rosy, saving you on blush. Traveling can be tough on your skin and hair but with just a little pre-planning you can look great no matter where you go. Do a quick search online to see what the climate is going to be like in the area you are traveling to. Then prepare accordingly. If you routinely go to a dermatologist, give him or her a call and see what he recommends.
