The hybrid American Bandog Mastiff is a relative newcomer on the scene. But these wonderful dogs possess an ancestry that is part American Pit Bull Terrier; part Neapolitan Mastiff, even though the breed is only 40 years old. This type of Mastiff is a breed of dog in the Molosser group. The "Bandogge" is a non-specific name for any Bulldog class Mastiff breed. The American breed of the Mastiff is not a "pure bred" breed. The breed exists today thanks to the dedication of two American mastiff breeders. In the 1960s, John Swinford, an American veterinarian decided to breed the "ultimate" guardian dog. He consistently crossed a male American pit bull terrier with a large, strong Neapolitan mastiff female. Joe Lucero, another American mastiff breeder also had a hand in the evolution of this breed. He specifically refers to his dogs as American Bandog Mastiffs. This type of Mastiff is one of the rare dog breeds. It is a large, powerful dog with a wide, heavy, rectangular body shape. You will immediately recognize the American Bandog Mastiff by his prominent muscles as well as the "athletic" look he carries with him. Over and above this, this type of Mastiff is a highly intelligent dog, and does, indeed, make an excellent guard dog. If you choose to let this breed of Mastiff into your home, you have just let him into your heart as well. But do not be put off from considering owning one of these most exceptional dogs, for the American Bandog Mastiff possesses an abundance of loyalty and love. Basically the American Bandog Mastiff is a calm dog that transforms when a bad situation arises. Therefore, if anyone is in the market for a great family dog that will be an intruder's nightmare then they should consider the American Bandog. An American Bandog is mainly good-natured, fond of children in general, extremely devoted to its owner and eager to work. It is quite common that the Mastiff can howl just about the entire time the owner is absent. Surprisingly, this breed of Mastiff can indeed get along with other household pets, if, that is, they have been raised from "puppyhood" with them. in other words if you treat the dog with respect and respect then irrespective of its ferocious temperament they can turn into being a very protective, caring and loving member of you family. You need to take care of your American Bandog Mastiff, keep it healthy, and help your mastiff be as happy as possible.
