Downtown Rome This area, which lies between the Etowah, Oostanaula and Coosa Rivers, is the site of Rome’s founding in 1834 and where early business and industry served the new town. The Civil War brought an end to this prosperity and much of Rome was burned. From the ashes, the spirit of Rome emerged and the community was rebuilt into a thriving town. An available brochure highlights the founders and leaders of Rome through the years and shows how a small cotton port became the modern community it is today. Visit the Rome - Floyd Visitor Center for a brochure tour.
