New Rules for Industries by Karnataka Government

The Government of Karnataka has taken a significant step towards the preservation of water. The government has formulated a plan where the industries will no longer be using water from rivers and any other water bodies. These industries will have to utilize the recycled water instead of fresh water from the natural water resources.

Department, informed the media that the government had decided to create a network of 100 km in 10 cities with municipal corporations. This network will be built for water recycling, only. And therefore, the industries will be allowed just to use the recycled water. The primary goal of the government is to preserve the natural water resources as much as they can for the future generations. Parvez spoke on Sustainable Building R&D Summit this year that Human water requirement is less; therefore, the issue is about how we use water rather than how much we need it. Thus, they believe that the new policy will play a key role in doing the same. Parvez also shared his view on another similar scenario where the government can invest in rainwater harvesting, and even by creating smart city plans on renewable energy. He said,

“Ultimately, the government can make regulations and try to enforce it, but if the other stakeholders and citizens do not cooperate, we won’t be able to achieve much.” Views of Danfoss CEO on the Water Preservation Project

Danfoss CEO, P Ravichandran had a different view of the recent water preservation project by the state government. He argues that the following the West methods will not be able to sustain development in India. He further explained by saying, “There are five different climatic zones in India, and many years ago, buildings were built using local materials suited for these areas and architecture reflected that. Today, the buildings are same everywhere; we need to back in time a bit, and marry that to new technologies.” Ravichandran also pointed out on that there are certain things one needs to understand before designing a building and they are, the materials, energy, and lastly, water supply. The building needs to be created professionally to stay sustainable for years.

He was trying to explain that the building needs to be built from the best materials to stand firm and needs to have an energy supply for its tenants. And the tenants must not face problems regarding the water supply. All these must be taken into consideration before choosing a land, landmark, etc.

Limitations of the Water Preservation Project

According to the General Director of TERI, Ajay Mathur, there isn’t much water, energy, and materials to go on with this project. And there is a vast demand for creating new buildings, but it is for people low income. And they also have a high demand for new and advanced technologies and materials.

Further explaining, he said that the demand for innovation must be the reason for the change. You need to requests for innovation not only from lower income groups but even higher. If India wants innovation, it needs to be demanded. It needs to be considered among all the working class.
