ABSTRACT

The idea is to create an application that helps people to explore interesting alleys in Saigon which are hidden by the modernization of the city. The content is designed based on the needs of the user, which targets mostly on the newcomer of Saigon from 18 - 35 years old range who love to explore more about the soul of Saigon. The solution is to desing an application that integates with many features including map system, information system, review, rating system and transportation system. With those features, it will synthesize necessary information that user can equip for themselves when aproach soecific places and cultures.

Beside that, there is also a combination realistic review and reward system to encourage users to find out new destination and provide more reliable information for them to absorb knowledge and ecperiences when they are travelling.

Problem Overview Experience tourism is a popular tourism trend among young people today. Self-exploring new things is also a way for them to prove their independence and strong spirit. They like to go alone, try to experience a series of independent days, find out for themselves, absorb the interesting and unique of the trip and especially focus on the moments of relaxation for themselves. They care more about the experience on the trip. Not wanting to be restrained by the planned schedules from travel agencies, many young people want to plan for themselves, making arrangements for their travel trip to be memorable.

But they complained on TripAdvisor that Saigon has too few places to go and they can explore all the famous places in Saigon in just one day. British historian Tim Doling thinks that Saigon is a place with lots of places that can create interesting stories revolving around attracting domestic and foreign tourists but there is no place to store mobile data yet.

It could be a few days' journey, through many famous places often known by the media, or trips in just one day but enough to experience beautiful scenes from every corner of Saigon.

Research Method According to Expedia, the results show that millennials (ages 24 to 35) travel the most, 35 days each year, but were followed closely by Generation Z travelers (ages 18 to 23), who travel 29 days each year. Generation X travels the least, the result of work and family commitments.

People between the age from 18 to 35 is the generation most likely to try something new when travelling and to look for 'off the beaten path' destinations. They also want tips from locals and truly embrace the bucket list or carpe diem mentality.

About up to 25 years old is the most suitable ages to plan a self-sufficent travel trip. At this age, people tend to travel more to see new places and cultures that they have never experienced before (89%), while 57% care about the local history and heritage values. ``

It must not be suprise that the youth segment has the highest penetration of smartphones across the globe (+79%) and that young travelers are early adopters of every new technology. This make the youth travel sector a market of leading technological innovation anf learning ground for the whole travel industry.

Social media, mobile technology allows travelers to research and book trips anywhere at any time. Research shows that 85% of leisure travelers use their smartphones and 44% use their phones to research travel while they’re travelling.

The results show that tourists are more interested in food, followed by stories and people in alleys. Visitors are less interested in spiritual places in the alley. When asked if you would like to have a companion with you on trips, more than 60 out of 72 people would like to have a companion with you on trips.

Problem&Needs

Statement

Saigon is a fascinating, vibrant and youthful city, but it’s not one that’s full of must-see tourist sights. To experience the best of Saigon, focus on its minutiae; the little details of this big city. There’s no better place to do this than in the tangled network of narrow alleyways that fill in the gaps between the city’s major roads. Saigon’s thousands of alleyways – are where the majority of Vietnamese live, and it’s here that you’ll find the ‘real’ Saigon. What’s more, the alleyways offer far more charm and interest than the central area of District 1, where most travellers spend their time. Getting lost on foot in the web of alleyways brings you into contact with friendly local people, great street food, intriguing architecture, and, best of all, local life. And this particular ‘attraction’ is free!

Target User

18-35 yrs old Base on the data which has been collected after resaearching. the target user for the application is young adult people from 18 to 35 years old. They are young, enthusiast, love travelling and eager to explore new things. At these ages, they are interested in discovering what they haven’t been known. Beside that, this generation is living in the era of digital and the innovation of technologies, they use smartphone competently and handle infomation quickly.

Concept References

Concept Reference Saigon alley is a system of narrow and cramped walkways. Inside the alleys are the lives of the Saigon people, the people who live here create their own characteristics of each alley. After thinking about it, we decided to choose a drawing style that shows the natural lines and many features of Saigon alley. We chose neutral colors with a bit of bass, showing the age of the alleys and it carries a hint of ancient atmosphere.

App Name We orient our app to be easy to remember and to know by placing an unmistakably characteristic name in Saigon and being brief and highly intuitive. After discussion, “Saigon Hem” is the last choice. “Saigon Hem” is a name that makes it easy for users to read and understand the purpose of the app and to easily remember and convey the soul of Saigon.
