DALLA BELLE EPOQUE ALLA DOLCE VITA, STORIA DI UNA VOCAZIONE. Ciascuna persona è portatrice di un’unicità che chiede di essere vissuta: Ettore ed Enea Mantellassi nascono con la vocazione dei mastri calzolai e nel 1912 aprono un una contrada fiorentina, un piccolo laboratorio artigianale di calzature da uomo.

All’inizio era una bottega di poche preziose paia di scarpe, creata dalla sapienza dei

fondatori e da pochi artigiani. A quasi un secolo di distanza, Sutor Mantellassi è un marchio di dimensione internazionale presente con le proprie boutique e showroom a Firenze, Milano, Londra, New York e Mosca, mantenendo tuttavia livelli di produzione limitati e rigorosamente made in Italy.

Per continuare a creare calzature con la medesima sapienza manuale che gli artigiani della Maison si tramandano da circa un secolo, alla guida di Sutor Mantellassi oggi c’è una nuova generazione di manager e imprenditori, per proporre e proteggere un prodotto che va oltre le mode correnti e possiede la stessa peculiarità di un’opera d’arte: è unico. Come chi lo ha prodotto. E chi lo sceglierà.

SUTOR MANTELLASSI: UN NOME CHE LASCIA UN’IMPRONTA. Il nome Sutor viene da latina e significa “fine cucitore, calzolaio” e Sutor Mantellassi è un marchio che ha lasciato un’impronta nel mondo. Come quella delle scarpe che Marcello Mastroianni indossava quando ha impresso le sue orme sull’Hollywood Boulevard nell’agosto del 1965.

Nella fucina Sutor Mantellassi si trovano tracce del passaggio anche di Ezra Pound, Louis Aragon, il Duca di Manchester, Giovanni Spadolini e moltissime altre personalità sensibili al fascino del supremo.

Il progresso tende a privarci dell’impronta artistica dell’uomo.

Le calzature Sutor Mantellassi, invece vengono ancora lavorate a mano da esperti artigiani, senza fretta, con grande pazienza, amore e precisione, e la vitalità di cui sono plasmate non è clonabile dalle tecniche moderne. Sono riservate a chi sa cogliere la perfezione nell’imperfezione. E l’imperfezione nella perfezione.

La ricercatezza e l’attenzione ai dettagli sono alchimie trasmesse da tre generazioni da tre generazioni di mastri calzolai, che custodiscono con cura i segreti del mestiere, per creare scarpe che si nobilitano attraverso l’uso quotidiano e con il passare del tempo.

Scarpe realizzate con le tecniche di lavorazione dell’antica tradizione, anche con metodi e lavorazioni contemporanei.

Montaggio Blake: la dedizione per la cura dei dettagli e il tempo di permanenza in “forma” permettono di contraddistinguere una scarpa Sutor, anche nel caso di una lavorazione standard.

Costruzione Bologna: è la calzata più complessa e più comoda. Il procedimento è studiato in modo che l’aderenza del pellame sia perfetta. Si parte da una costruzione a sacchetto; la scarpa viene poi montata sulla forma per essere cucita ad una soletta in pelle rinforzata con tela di iuta, tirando manualmente ogni singolo punto.

Tubolare: il comfort e la straordinaria flessibilità sono le caratteristiche principali di questa lavorazione. La scarpa viene montata, tirata e fissata a mano e, con oltre 100 punti infilati uno per uno, viene cucita la vaschetta alla tomaia.

Costruzione Goodyear: nasce dalla tradizione Sutor ed è una lavorazione effettuata con estremo rigore manuale, seguendo la forma della scarpa. Il risultato finale è una calzatura sportiva di grande raffinatezza.

Costruzione Norvegese: con filo e lesine (da sempre simbolo del marchio Sutor) si cuciono insieme suola, sottopiede, fodera e tomaia. Lo stesso paziente lavoro viene eseguito per la seconda e la terza suola: più di 600 punti per un manufatto eccelso.

FROM THE BELLE EPOQUE TO THE DOLCE VITA, THE STORY OF A VOCATION Each person has his own individuality that wishes to be expressed. Ettore and Enea Mantellassi were born the vocation of master cobblers, and in 1912 they opened a small workshop in a Florentine district to make men’s shoes.

At the beginning, it was a shop with a few precious pairs of shoes, created from the knowledge and skill of the founders and a few craftsmen. Almost a century later, Sutor Mantellassi has boutiques and showrooms in Florence, Milan, London, New York and Moscow. But they still produce only a few thousand pairs a year strictly made in Italy. The same manual skill used in the last century was handed down to new generation of managers and entrepreneurs leading Sutor Mantellassi. They propose to project a product that goes beyond current fashion having the feature of a unique work of art: unique as well as his manufacturer and as the customer who will choose it.

SUTOR MANTELLASSI: A NAME THAT LEAVES ITS FOOTPRINTS The name Sutor comes from Latin, meaning “fine sewer cobbler”. Sutor Mantellassi is a brand that has left its footprints on the world, like those shows that Marcello Mastroianni was wearing when he set his footprints in cement on Hollywood Boulevard in August 1965. Many other well-known personalities sensitive to the fascination of excellence, including Ezra Pound, Louis Aragon, the Duke of Manchester and Giovanni Spadolini, have left traces of their visits to the early Sutor Mantellassi laboratory.

Progress tends to deprive us of man’s artistic traces, but Sutor Mantellassi shoes are still handmade by expert craftsmen, taking their time with great patience, love and precision.

The vitality from which these shoes are moulded cannot be cloned by modern technology. They are meant for those who can understand the value of “imperfection” in those details that make the product special. The attentive care to these details was inherited by the three generations of master cobblers who preserved the secrets of their craft. Shoes that are ennobled by daily use and in the years, shoes made following the traditional techniques of ancient but updated handwork.

Montaggio Blake: every single centimeter of leather is stretched, tacked and sewn by hand on the last, together with a single welt. The welt is made rigorously by hand bordered asimmetrically along the profile of the insole lining.

Costruzione Bologna: this is a more complex and comfortable wear designed in such a way that the leather adheres perfectly. It begins with a pouch construction; then the shoe is placed on a last where it is sewn to the inner sole in leather reinforced with a jute fabric and each stitch is pulled tight by hand.

Tubolare: Comfort and extraordinary flexibility are the main features of this workmanship. The shoe is placed on a last, pulled and set by hand, then more than 100 stitches are made, one by one, as the “vaschetta” is sewn to the vamp/upper shoe.

Costruzione Goodyear: This shoe comes from a Sutor tradition, its workmanship requiring extremely high manual skill to follow the shape of the shoe. With the Goodyear process you would see that there are two insoles which sandwich a cork blend liner.

Costruzione Norvegese: Sewn with thread and an awl, which have always been symbols of the Sutor Mantellassi brand, the sole, underfoot lining and vamp are sewn together.

The same patient work is carried out for the second and the inner sole: more than 600 stitches of excellent hand-workmanship.
