We propose the superblock to make Keelung bay area a large joint block with multi-function, connecting retails, shopping mall, hotels, plaza, residential, office, art galleries and theaters. The waste of consuming inside the superblock will be recycle and become the energy for other activities so that the resource using can be more efficient. To create an energy exchanging system, we set the tower as a generator of energy conversion, all the waste will return to here and regenerate as the new energy for every building in this block. 3

We try to consider the water is not only a notion of Keelung waterfront urban planning, but also a renewable resource for the city. So, the water will be related to many activites, like households using, urban farming, fish market and harbour bath. The generator under the towers can screen and desalt the sea water, turning it into renewable water for the residentials and the fish market.

In terms of enough rain water and considerable water household using in Keelung, the tower is a generator. It can process grey water and rain water into renewable water. The generator basically consists of two parts. Initially, the ultrafiltration pre-treats the recycled water. It can filter the particles and control PH. Then, it followed by the reverse osmosis. It uses semipermeable membrane to remove ions, molecules and larger particles from water. The three stages of osmosis ensure the quality of drinking water.

In city, most of the building is giant and solid, however, night markets are trying to deconstruct the giant one and separate it into parts, which makes night market become a big container to melt different culture and elements. In this project, I try to build the form from the pedestrian path of the night market which is simulated by swarm agent. It shows how night markets perform in 2D plane, which could apply the rules into three dimensions. It uses Swarm Agent by simple rules which can adjust and rebuild the form for organizing vertical public space for market and other activities.

I modify night market as a procedure of emergence, which is the collective motion of a large number of self-propelled entities. It was arising from simple rules that are followed by individuals, which does not invovle any central coordination. Basing on reference of ABM and boids model, I try to add Z axis in to the 2-dimension plane of night market, then generating the concept of a vertical night market. Through the research about Feng Chia Night Market, I got some parameter to re-generate a new form for vertical night market. Firstly, I collected the points which represent the people positions remapping the path of how people moving. Then, get the linear regression to evaluate the weight of different behavior, including align, avoid align, separation, cohesion, and avoid cohesion. 00

In Taiwan, religious architecture played the important role for primary town growth. However, as modern transport and cities rising, vernacular temples become a parasitic part of cities. On one hand, temples have no essential function in cities (religion declined in the past century); on the other hand, temples build up a subtle connection to the elder people; they have become public space for the old people.

A temple consists of three parts. Upper roof stands for TIAN(sky), lower stairs stands for DI(earth). The middle part is for human, in which humans communicate with TIAN and DI. As modern cities growing, temples become communites of local people . Excpet religion, temples, nowadays, have unusual functions in the urban context.

Different from wetern religion, the Earth God and other Chinese deities serve people in all aspects of life, including fincane and procreation. In the past, temples were the cores of town, in which people hosted events. With modern cities rising and sprawling, temples keep shrinking. However, temples have special meaning and values in Taiwan’s culture, especially for the old. Also, they provide spaces for recreation and entertainment in cities. 16

individual / 2018 Taipei, Taiwan 1200 m2 installation / public space Cheng Chien-ke / splander@gmail. com

Our sense has been enhanced through the Internet. We are all cyborgs, in a way, with electronic devices. In this project, I focus on the topic about social anxiety, with SNS regarded as parts of urban activities. The designed installations are used to represent virtual world by displays and AR devices as “machines for encountering” to rebuild relations between humans, trying to discuss how buildings can response to the emergence of information.

Here is plotting line charts indicating the yearly check-in frequency of Instagram, after scraping over 1 million captions in Taipei. Through the charts, there were certain patterns between the check-in spots and the installed functions. On the contrary, how the frequency of activities may indicate the realistic function of the place.

Additionally, with 20 thousand users of Tinder, I draw a heatmap in 3D to find the connection between the virtual activities and physical world, paralleling Instagram data and Accupass (online ticket selling platform). For Instagram, I did a simple language processing to retrieve the emoji using. In terms of Accupass, I categorized the data by types.

The Internet becomes an augmented element of architecture, which means the architectural elements are not only playing the role of physical functions, but also related to activities in virtual world. Then, the elements may have many functions in the same times, which totally break the boundary between private space and public space, remained connected or not connected. 22

Taipei City Government MRT Station

Skyway

Keelung Highway

The heavy traffic flow divides the pedestrian path into two sides, with the people only connected by the metro station underground.

The intersection has a massive traffic flow, with the average speed over 50 km/h.

The six overpasses generate a large intersection. Meanwhile, the demand of pedestrian crossing does not decrease.

Through finding the hot spot of datasets, I located the site on Keelung Rd., Taipei. It is near the MRT station (Taipei city government station), with the waiting space produced by the crowded transportation (people use phone mostly in this case). So I install the“machine for encountering”combined with screens, try to rebuild relation between people online and offline.

23

Escalator / Newsstand

The escalator inside a metro station will be covered by a dome with screens and displaying news. It may trigger people’s communication about the news during the waiting period.

Stairs / Piano

The mechanics will lift and drop the tubes to generate a maze. It will lead people to encounter here.

Floor / Maze

Dome / Theater

Slab / Display

The temporary dome will be assembled with screens and projectors. It will perform as a theater stage, so people have the same interests may meet here.

The stairs itself will be an instrument. When people pass by, it will generate music to draw people’s attention. In case the people like music may meet each other here.

The projectors create a form of asynchronous communication: when the info be store, people can exchange conversations both physically and virtually.

The rotating wall with displays will be re-organized to create space with various levels of privacy. It may generate a space for people encountering. Wall / Router
