4 Ways to Amp Up Your Press Releases

The Internet is a buyer’s market. People can find whatever they are looking for, be it cars, kittens, deep fryers, kittens, ninja costumes…and did we also mention that there is a ridiculous number of kittens on the Internet? But, by and large, the days of “give them options and make them pick” are over. You need to know what people are looking for. More precisely, you need to understand what YOUR market is looking for and how to deliver it, be it great customer service, really low costs, or even pictures of kittens. But, Ronn Torossian says, knowing what they want is not enough. Your press releases must be optimized so that your ideal market will FIND them in the first place. In this article Torossian, CEO of 5WPR, explains 4 ways to optimize your PR for top results.

#1 – Understand your market: We could write this as “know who you are talking to” or “understand your goal” but it all amounts to the same thing. To get results you need to know why you are writing and who you are trying to connect with. Too much PR focuses on information dumps and not on the recipient. This is exactly backwards.

#2 – The right keywords: People search using words. Revolutionary, right? Well, then why aren’t you putting the words they use in your press releases? Do you even know those words? Look, we’re not trying to be tough on you. We’re just pointing out that, sometimes, the obvious stuff slips by undetected. You need to know the words your market is keying into the Google monster before you write your release.

#3 – Keyword location: Where you put your keywords in your text matters. If you don’t have keywords in the title and the first paragraph, you are doing it wrong. Other ideal places include late in the article and in the meta description. While the latter may not count for much to Google anymore, users are still seeing it, so it needs to match what they are looking for.

#4 – Links: Embedded links in your text not only make it look more authoritative, but it also gives readers options for what to do “next.” Link to other similar information on your website, or elsewhere on the web. But don’t use stale phrases like “click here.” Instead, word your links as keywords or leading phrases that will grab attention and increase clicks.

While employing these strategies cannot guarantee ultimate success, it will make your content easier for your prospects to find online. Actually delivering actionable content is up to you. And if you find a way to tie your brand into kittens, you just might have the perfect online strategy.
