Adrian Flack Carrera Cup Win

or a Family Affair

by Adrian Flack

This year the Gold Coast 500 was exciting as we had not been there for a few years. In 2018 I went really well winning the pro-am class. How would I do in 2022 with an all new car that handles and responds quite differently?

Well first there is literally a small truck load of equipment to bring in and set up in the very compact pit space. As usual Jaime and my crew did an amazing job setting up and preparing the car. And looking after me!

The difference in handling in this car made every corner a new learning experience so I approached each session with a "just have fun attitude" and no pressure which seemed to work well as I was very fast in comparison to the other Pro-am drivers.

The track is rough and tumble as expected and you have to ride the curbs but stay within the track limit sensors. I loved it!

I managed to qualify on pole for the Pro-am class with encouragement and coaching from my 4 serious gokart racing girls. I'm not sure whether running 4 race karts does not make for a tougher day than Carrera Cup but the family time with them is fabulous.

I did have a decent brush with a wall but there was no serious damage and I was able to press on and complete all the races to finish 2nd in the Pro-am class, a really great result.

I and the crew are looking forward to a full year of racing next year.

I'd like to thank my sponsors, Western Truck group, Agas National, Sheldon Palms, Image Perfection, JD mobile, DJ and Porsche Gold Coast. Have a great Xmas everyone!!
