Well we all thought that this Club Night would be a “Big One” particularly after not being able to host a club night (due to Covid) since our last night at Seaworks in Williamstown way back in April ’21. Fox Museum had a cap on visitors within the building of 200 people so we had to limit our night to 400 attendees, allowing for a block of 200 members through the museum at a time, however little did we know that within three days of bookings opening we would be sitting on some 422 registrations.
Our last visit to the Fox Museum was back in February 2008, and during that time significant work has been performed on this heritage listed precinct, along with owner of the collection Mr Lindsay Fox AC using this time to add further exhibits to his collection. The club had extended an invitation to Mr fox to join us and to open the night, however he had a fall the week prior to our event which saw him hospitalised for a couple of days and then sent home to rest.
Unfortunately due to various reasons we had over 80 attendees cancel their club night registrations with only a couple of days to go, which ultimately saw around 350 attendees on the night, and with on-site parking at a premium, Social Committee Member Geoff Mould and his team of helpers, were able to accommodate pretty much all of those who came by car.
Our night kicked off at 7.30 sharp with MC Russell Sturzaker taking to the microphone to welcome members, while also introducing our Special Guest - Daniel Schmollinger - CEO of Porsche Cars Australia and Porsche Retail Group Australia (and fellow PCV Club Member) along with his wife Constanze. Also present on the night (and fellow PCV Club Members also) were Robert Gattereder - CEO of Preston Motors Group (owners of Porsche Centre Brighton and Doncaster) and his wife Jutta.
Russell then welcomed Club President – Mark Horton Andrews to the microphone, where Mark welcomed members to our first club night for 2022, and also discussed some of the upcoming events that are planned for the next few months. Mark then asked Social Director – Linley Baxter to invite all New Members present to come forward and introduce themselves to the gathering.
As only 200 people were permitted into the museum at a time, we loosely split into two groups with the first group of around 170 members enjoying a tour of the museum, while the others commenced with their dinner which consisted of a Gourmet Carvery Banquet, (ably provided once again by Adam Pope and his team from Fabulous Catering)
