DRAFTFCB

Ende 2006 gewann HORT einen internationalen Pitch und wurde mit der Entwicklung einer neuen Corporate Identity anlässlich der Fusion zweier globaler Werbeagenturen beauftragt. Draft, eine auf Direkt-Marketing spezialisierte Agentur, und FCB, eine große Network-Agentur.

At the end of July 2006, Hort was asked to develop a new corporate identity for the merging of two global corporate companies: Draft, a direct marketing company, and FCB, a creative advertising agency.

Das Briefing war sehr offen und erlaubte uns, ganz neue Ansätze im Corporate Design zu entwickeln. Wie kreierten ein "Living Corporate" Konzept: eine eigene Persönlichkeit, die sich je nachdem, wer sie benutzt, immer wieder ganz anders nach außen darstellt. Intention war dabei, dass dieses Corporate durch die einzelnen Agenturen des Networks und durch deren Mitarbeiter zum Leben erweckt wird. Schließlich sind sie diejenigen, die diese Firma ausmachen, gestalten und formen.

Our response to the brief was something we decided to call 'living corporate'. A living, breathing, personality as a brand for the company. The personality could be whoever they wanted it to be. We wanted the content of the personality to come out of the company and its employees. These are, after all, the people that define a company.

This living corporate thing was to become part of everything. Adding the word 'meet' to something is an invitation to step up and get to know it. So meet DRAFTFCB.

Eine speziell entwickelte, handgeschriebene Schrift wurde Teil des Brandings. Sie hat auf der einen Seite etwas sehr individuelles, l채sst sich andererseits aber auch sehr einfach von den Mitarbeitern der Agentur einsetzen und anwenden.

We developed a customized typeface as part of the branding. It is represents the living corporate's handwriting and allows the brand to be easily adopted by DRAFTFCB employees.

Hauptelement der Geschäftsausstattung ist das Logo.

Dazu können dann individuell Bestandteile wie das "meet", Fotografie oder die sogenannten "Expressive Marks" (kleine handgezeichnete Elemente, wie man sie auf Notizblöcken oder in Skizzenbüchern findet) addiert werden. Diese zusätzlichen Elemente drücken die Idee des "lebenden" Corporates aus.

The basic element within the stationery was the logo. Additional elements like the meet, photography and expressive marks (which were intended to make reference to the design process and doodling) were added to illustrate the idea of the living corporate.

Die größte Herausforderung war abschließend ein System für die Marke zu entwickeln, dass den 9.000 Mitarbeitern in 180 Büros auf der ganzen Welt erlaubt, ganz einfach und überall einsetzbar, die Corporate Elemente zu nutzen und einzusetzen. Hier zeigen wir einen Ausschnitt daraus.

Das Corporate Design Konzept für G T B basiert auf der Idee des Avantgardistischen. Denn Mode will stets einen Schritt voraus und stil-gebend sein und prägt andere visuelle Bereiche. Die Idee, die G T B verfolgt, die Verbindung von Mode, die stilistisch visionär ist, mit dem Fair Trade-Gedanken, der inhaltlich visionär ist, ist in sich radikal. Deshalb benötigten wir auch ein stilistisch visionäres Corporate-Design, das das zum Ausdruck bringt. Dies wird zum einen durch den Einsatz einer sehr konsequenten Typografie und einem sichtbaren Raster gelöst. Zum anderen kommt eine illustrative Ebene zum Einsatz, die dazu dient, die Marke emotional aufzuladen.

Der G T B - Gedanke birgt etwas sehr menschliches, warmes, weiches, dem wir genauso Ausdruck verleihen müssen. Diesen Aspekt lösen wir durch die Verwendung von Bewegung, Veränderung, Farbe, Material und Form und schaffen damit wiederum einen Link zur Mode, welche mit gleichen Attributen arbeitet.

The concept of G T B is based on two things: the visual aesthetics of the avant-garde and the combination of fashion's visionary appeal with Fair Trade ideals. We developed a system of consistent and concise typography that works within a visible grid with graphical elements to provide an emotional edge. G T B also needed to express something very human, warm, and soft. We solved this through the use of movement, change, color, material and form, capturing the essence of fashion.

Die Wortmarke besteht aus dem Firmennamen in der Schrift Pica 10 Pitch und der Kombination mit einem grafischen Element, dem Punkt. Dieses grafische Element setzt dabei einen harmonischen, weichen Kontrapunkt zu der eher geradlinigen und strengen Anwendung der Typografie und des Rasters.

Darüber hinaus trägt er zur Wiedererkennung bei.

The wordmark consists of the brandname, using the font Pica 10 Pitch, and the dot as the graphic element. The dot plays a harmonious, soft counterpoint to the rather straightforward and strict application of typography within the grid. Additionally, it provides recognition.

Diese Schrift unterst端tzt unser Konzept, da sie sehr urspr端nglich und zur端ckgenommen ist. Sie ist eine gute Mischung aus Konsequenz und Solidit辰t, im Detail wirkt sie aber durch kleine Elemente fast schon organisch oder floral.

G T B's corporate font is Pica 10 Pitch. It resembles a traditional typewriter font and like our concept, it is original and understated. It provides a good mix of consistency and solidity. Under scrutiny, the small elements of the font become almost organic or floral.

Die Pica 10 Pitch ist ein monospaced Font: eder Buchstabe nimmt in seiner Breite den gleichen Raum ein. Durch diesen kontinuierlichen Rhythmus ergibt sich ein homogenes Gesamtbild. Gleichzeitig vereinfacht sich dadurch die Nutzung, da sich auch vom Laien gesetzt, ein weitestgehend sauberes Schriftbild ergibt.

Pica 10 Pitch is a monospaced font, which means that each letter is equally spaced. This continuous rhythm guarantees a homogenous effect. At the same time it is easy to use; almost anybody can set a clean body of type. Pica 10 Pitch is used for the wordmark, body text, and all other mediums.

Text decorations and highlights are executed with underlines and spacing between letters.

Die Farbpalette ist wie die grafischen Elemente der illustrativen Ebene flexibel und veränderbar. Sie reicht grundsätzlich von warm bis kalt – entsprechend der unterschiedlichen Jahreszeiten und Kollektionen, kann aber den aktuellen Modetrends angepasst werden.

Just like the graphic elements, the color palette is flexible and changeable. Generally, it ranges from warm to cold, depending on the seasons or collections (Spring/ Summer – Fall/Winter) but it can also be adjusted to the latest fashion trends.

We designed G T B give-away promotional articles such as T-Shirts, cotton bags and posters for the PREMIUM EXHIBITIONS 2008.

Die Poster verbinden inszenierte Fotografie mit den grafischen Elementen des Corporate-Designs.

Die Kleidung der unterschiedlichen Marken konnten auf diese Weise in einem 채sthetisch einheitlichen Kontext pr채sentiert werden.

The posters combine staged photography with the graphical elements of the corporate design, presenting clothes from different brands in a consistent aesthetic.

Auf der Website wird unser gestalterisches Konzept konsequent in einer weiteren und medienad채quaten Ebene fortgef체hrt.

Dadurch bekommen wir ein bewegtes, lebendes, aktives Corporate Design, das mit dem User interagiert. Haptik wird dabei durch Bewegung und Dynamik ersetzt. Die Website basiert auf einem Content Management System, das durch den Kunden selbst zu pflegen und aktualisieren ist.

The website reflects the same corporate design concept, adapted to the requirements of online media.

This resulted in a fluid, lively, active corporate design which encouraged user interaction. We generated haptics through movement and dynamics. The site is based on a content management system, so the client can maintain and update the site.

Im Rahmen des von PREMIUM EXHIBITIONS vorgegebenen architektonischen Konzeptes, haben wir das Erscheinungsbild von G T B auf den Messestand angewandt.

We applied the G T B corporate design to the existing architectural concept of the PREMIUM EXHIBITIONS trade fair booth.

Die grafischen Elemente, insbesondere auch die Silberfolie, wurden in den Raum integriert, auf Wände, Böden und selbst auf die Stühle aufgetragen.

The graphic elements (including some special silver foil accents) and the G T B wordmark were integrated into the space, including the chairs, walls and floors.

Largoland ist eine der führenden Musikproduktionen, deren größtes Tätigkeitsfeld die Vertonung von Werbespots ist. Wir fanden für sie die passende visuelle Identität.

We developed a corporate identity for Largoland – a music production house, whose biggest field of operation is sound recording for commercials.

Largoland wollte eine einfache Corporate Identity, die sich aber dennoch visuell hervorheben kann.

Zu den Kunden zählen unter anderem große internationale Werbeagenturen und Filmproduktionen - also visuell erfahrene Menschen. Durch ein System von unterschiedlich dicken Linien, die in kreisförmigen Masken stecken, wurden Tonabfolgen in sich überlappenden Intervallen visualisiert. Eine sehr freie Umsetzung von Musik, welche das Gefühl von konstruierter Musik erzeugt.

With a majority of their clients being visually trained professionals, the corporate identity needed to be graphically strong. We used a system of lines, varying in thickness, arranged in circular masks to visualize sound sequences that overlapped themselves at intervals. A free interpretation of the subject matter which nevertheless suggests the feeling of constructed music.

The entrepreneur Marion King works as a personal coach and advises clients from the advertising and communications industry in all aspects of Human Resources Management.

Durch ihre Arbeit mit unterschiedlichen Persönlichkeiten entsteht ein Spannungsfeld, das ein Höchstmaß an Sensibilität und Einfühlungsvermögen erfordert.

Working with different personalities generates a tension that demands a high degree of sensitivity and empathy. We created an equally subtle corporate design that reflects these qualities. While simple typography promotes clarity and order, a diffuse, color-changing point addresses the quintessence of King's work: getting closer and closer to the wishes and needs of her customers.

Wir kreierten ein Corporate Design das diese Eigenschaften gleichermaßen feinsinnig widerspiegelt. Während schlichte Typografie Klarheit und Ordnung befördert, thematisiert ein diffuser, farblich wechselnder Punkt den Kern von King's Arbeit – dem sukzessiven Vordringen zu den Wünschen und Bedürfnissen ihrer Kunden.

Vorrangig für die Onlinepräsenz sowie Direct Mail erstellt, trägt das fotografische Konzept seinerseits entscheidend zur Emotionalisierung der visuellen Identität bei.

Der Darstellung von Themen- und Aufgabenfeldern nähern wir uns über die Inszenierung alltäglicher Objekte aus der Arbeitsumgebung von Marion King.

Mainly designed for the web and direct mail, the photographic concept is key in emotionalizing the visual identity. For illustrations of subject areas and task fields, we used everyday objects from Marion King's work environment.

Wie Sie aus geschichtlichen Überlieferungen herausnehmen konnten, befasse ich mich zur Zeit ausschließlich mit dem Verfassen von Gedichten in Prosa-Form. Über die Sprache fand ich zum Ursprung. Und das war für mich eine wichtige Erfahrung im Sumpf des Datenmeeres. Sagenhafte Meerestiere aus Bernstein befuhren den Highway der Transferwesen.

Suprageneratoren verbanden das Geschick mit dem Glück, warfen Wellen noch und nöcher, brachen durch das Licht, verwandelten sich in Nichts. Ach Herr, wo bleibt der Duft wenn er verfliegt?

Besteht ein Atom auch wenn es zerfällt? Und wohin überhaupt geht der Weg, wenn es doch soviele davon gibt…

Der Zoom LeBron IV ist ein jährlich neu erscheinender Schuh, der gemeinsam von Nike und Basketball Superstar LeBron James entwickelt wurde.

Nike's Zoom LeBron IV shoe, codeveloped with basketball superstar LeBron James, gets a new edition every year.

Wir gestalteten für Nike ein Visual Center, das alle Mitarbeiter, die für diese Marke arbeiten, mit der ästhetischen Sprache und den Guidelines vertraut macht.

Kernelemente unserer Gestaltung sind neben der Konstruktion einer Schrift, die sich variabel zu dynamischen Wortmarken formen lässt, die Kreation von Illustrationen und Collagen, sowie die Gestaltung des Buchs, von Postern, Point of Sale Produkten, Schaufenster und Animationen, die die Leidenschaft und unbändige Power LeBron's zum Ausdruck bringen.

We designed a Visual Center for Nike, where anyone working on this particular brand can tune in to its aesthetics and style guidelines.

We constructed a variable font for creating dynamic wordmarks. Other key elements of the design included illustrations and collages, designs for books, posters, point of sale items, store displays and animations; all of which expressed the spirit and unbridled power of LeBron James.

The Berlin Music Commission is an association of Berlin musicians, labels and clubs who have joined forces to promote the music business in their home town.

Die Vernetzung der Akteure wird durch eine spontane und frei gezeichnete Schrift basierend auf Dreiecken visualisiert, wohingegen die illustrative Ebene unterschiedliche Aspekte und Elemente von Musik und Tanz zusammenfasst.

The resulting network is visualized using a freely-drawn, triangle-based font, while the illustrative level merges diverse aspects and elements of music and dance.

Das Luxusmodegeschäft Hayashi in Frankfurt am Main vertreibt High Fashion und avantgardistische Mode aus Skandinavien.

Hayashi, a luxury fashion business based in Frankfurt am Main, distributes high fashion and avantgarde clothing from Scandinavia.

Neben einer geometrisch reduzierten Wortmarke entwickelten wir ein visuelles System basierend auf markanten Collagen, das sowohl im Corporate Design als auch auf Point of Sale Produkten, Einkaufstaschen, Hang-Tags, Postern und C-Prints dem progressiven Anspruch von Hayashi Rechnung trägt, Mode als Kunst zu inszenieren.

Um Hayashi gleichsam im Raum erlebbar zu machen, gestalteten wir großformatige saisonal wechselnde Illustrationen, die Wände zu Schaufenstern werden lassen und die individuellen Schnitte der Boutique angemessen präsentieren.

In addition to a geometricallyreduced wordmark, we developed a visual system based on striking collages which exemplified Hayashi's progressive ambition of presenting fashion as art. This system found its way onto point of sale products, shopping bags, hang tags, posters and C-prints, To give the Hayashi experience a spatial dimension, we also created large, seasonally-changing illustrations which portrayed the boutique's idiosyncratic styles in all their exclusive glory.

Alljährlich findet in Sydney das von Virgin Records ins Leben gerufene V Festival statt. Um dieses Musikevent einer breiten Öffentlichkeit bekannt zu machen, entwarfen wir eine umfassende Kampagne, in deren Zentrum die Besucher und Zuschauer des Festivals stehen.

Launched by Virgin Records, the V festival is an annual music event in Sydney. To advertise the festival to a wider public, we designed a comprehensive campaign that turned the spotlight on the festival audience.

Das V selbst wird dabei zur Bühne, gewährt einen Blick hinter den Vorhang und eröffnet unendlich viel Spielraum für Geschichten und Aktionen. Mühelos sorgt es über Plakate, Anzeigen, Flyer oder T-Shirts hinweg für Überraschungen.

The V itself becomes a stage, peeks behind the curtain and establishes a space for stories and action. It gave posters, ads, flyers and T-shirts a nice element of surprise.

MICROSOFT ZUNE

MICROSOFT ZUNE

Der Hort wurde von Microsoft zu einem Pitch eingeladen, um für ihre Marke Zune einen neuen Look and Feel zu kreieren. Die einzige Bedingung war, das bestehende Logo zu berücksichtigen und in unser Konzept einzubeziehen. Das Projekt wurde letztlich nicht verwirklicht, aber diente als Ausgangspunkt für eine Kampagnenserie bestehend aus Mustern, Oberflächen und Hintergründen, die wir später für den Microsoft Zune entwickelten.

Microsoft Zune invited Hort to take part in a pitch to create a new look and feel for their established Zune brand. The only real constraint was that our concept must incorporate the current logo. The project was never implemented, but formed the starting point for a campaign series of patterns, device skins and backgrounds that we later developed for Microsoft Zune.

Basierend auf der Transformation des Zune Logos in ein Raster entwickelten wir eine Schrift, die wir weniger als Corporate Schrift, sondern vielmer als graphisches Element behandelten.

Based on the transformation of the Zune Logo into a grid, we developed a Zune typeface. We treated it more as a graphic element rather then a corporate typeface.

Wir entwickelten eine Sammlung an Bildern, Mustern und Formen, aus denen Zune Welten gebaut und collagiert werden können. Dieses System erlaubt es der Marke sich beständig weiterzuentwickeln und neu zu erfinden. Ein Fundus an Mustern wurde gestaltet, der für Hintergründe und Oberflächen benutzt werden kann.

We developed a library of imagery, patterns, shapes and forms to build, collage and populate Zune worlds.

This system allowed the brand to constantly evolve and reinvent itself. We also produced a pool of patterns that could be used for backgrounds, fills and skins.

F체r das Berliner Musiklabel Get Physical entwickelten wir ein Corporate Design, das die Vielseitigkeit des Labels und insbesondere der Menschen dahinter reflektiert.

For the Berlin record label Get Physical, we developed a corporate design that reflects the versatility of the label and, more importantly, the people behind it.

Kern des visuellen Auftritts ist ein vielschichtiges Arrangement aus unterschiedlichen Schrifttypen und illustrativen Elementen, das sich immer wieder neu zusammengesetzt oder als Extrakt - auf allen Medien wiederfindet.

Durch die farbliche Reduzierung auf dunkles Blau vor grauem Fond entstand so ein graphisch strenges und zugleich wandlungsf채higes Erscheinungsbild.

The core of the visual identity is a complex arrangement of different typefaces and illustrative elements.

This arrangement recurs and echos, as a whole or in part, across all media.

By reducing the colors to nothing but a dark blue on top of a grey stock, we created a visual identity that is strict yet equally versatile.
