This is the time of year when many of us have thoughts about escaping the pace of everyday life for a bit. While we may all have different ideas about what a getaway will involve, there is usually a challenge in preparing for time away from home and inevitably the further away we go, the more in-depth the preparation seems to be. That’s one of the reasons I love our Summer Living issue, it reminds us all that one of the greatest getaways is our own backyard. For instance, one Little Rock family shares their custom home built on the banks of the Arkansas River. We fell in love with this house the moment we drove onto the property. It is not just for enjoying on special occasions or weekends; this family is living the “getaway lifestyle” every day. The residence flows so easily from outside to inside as you are welcomed into a space that seems to blend perfectly with the colors of the banks and the river beyond. A palette of cream, cool blue, and beige is gracefully placed throughout the home. Designer Janna Toland is known for creating elegant spaces, and I think you’ll be inspired by this home’s combination of style and livability. Hot Springs is another relaxing locale that some Arkansas residents are lucky enough to enjoy frequently. On the shores of Lake Hamilton, designer Brittany Nixon Brun has updated a multigenerational vacation home to meet the needs of all visitors—from the youngest toddler to the family’s patriarch. Brittany, a lifelong Arkansan, has spent many years getting to know just what this family’s perfect lake house would hold. Her talented eye turned the formerly dated home into a luxurious and accommodating destination that the homeowners now rush to enjoy every chance they can. After seeing the results of this renovation, I know you will be longing for at least a hint of this style in your own space. Of course, many Arkansans would enjoy the tranquility of a rustic cabin that is tucked away on the banks of a small private lake. The Anthony family graciously takes us on a tour of their property on the outskirts of El Dorado. Designer and family member Andrea Anthony Brooks turned what could’ve been a devastating plumbing leak into an opportunity to update and modernize this beloved structure. Today it is more livable for the next generation of Anthonys—who are sure to come to love this dream cabin as much as she does. For anyone who enjoys the outdoors, it is truly an ultimate getaway that brings to life a love for the scenery of The Natural State. Among our many other summer-inspired features, Peri-Gay Walker shares Independence Day entertaining ideas that are sure to spruce up any outdoor space and inspire a festive star-studded salute to our nation. And, finally, a Mayflower resident invites us into his magnificent outdoor spaces—all enhanced by a location with views of Pinnacle Mountain and the Arkansas River. I know you will find the July issue full of fresh summertime ideas; personally, I think it sets the mood to enjoy the long, relaxing weekends ahead.

Life/Local Talent

Meet... BRIAN TAYLOR AS THE CEO OF PK GRILLS, THIS ARKANSAN IS PASSIONATE ABOUT CARRYING ON THE COMPANY’S TRADITION OF QUALITY AS WELL AS INTRODUCING NEW PRODUCT LINES TO THE NAME

FOR THOSE WHO DON’T KNOW, TELL US A BIT ABOUT THE HISTORY OF PK GRILLS. Deemed a “Portable Kitchen,” the cast aluminum grill and smoker was first made in Texas in the 1950s. Production moved to Little Rock in the 1960s and continued through the mid 70s. Our company reincarnated this classic grill design and began making them again in small quantities about 15 years ago. Today, we are on a mission to make these beloved grills available to a much wider audience. WHAT SETS THESE GRILLS APART FROM OTHERS? We make products that cook better and last longer than our competitors. The World Championship Steak Cook-Off in Magnolia was won using a PK Grill in 2015. Five months later in Fort Worth at the SCA Steak World Championship, 8 of the top 10 finishers—including the winner—cooked on a PK. We think that speaks volumes. TELL US A BIT ABOUT THE DIFFERENT MODELS AVAILABLE. The Classic PK Grill (based on the 1950’s design) and the PK Grill Grate is the combination that these champion chefs use. As for new items, we are excited to begin revealing the lineup over the summer. Patents are pending, and the elves are completing their work. WHY DO YOU THINK ARKANSAS IS A NATURAL FIT TO BE HOME TO PK GRILLS? Arkansas is simple, beautiful, and should not be underestimated—that’s us. HOW DO YOU USE YOUR PK GRILL? I like to take my PK to the beach. Grilling fresh fish, shrimp, and some veggies on a PK as the sun goes down on the Gulf is hard to beat. I think our grill pairs nicely with sun and beer.

a variety of events and attractions. While in the downtown area, don’t miss the opportunity to take a stroll along Bathhouse Row, a National Historic Landmark in Hot Springs and a focal point not to be missed. There are eight distinct bathhouses all built between the late 1800s and 1923, each with its own architectural style to enjoy. If you’re interested in the history, you can tour a few of the houses, or if you’re tempted, you can even take a hot springs bath. Of course, Oaklawn Racing & Gaming (800-625-5296, oaklawn.com) ranks high in popularity for many Arkansans and out-of-state visitors. While the horse racing season may have drawn to a close, there are still numerous activities to enjoy at the park, including a performance by The Monkees at the Finish Line Theater on Friday, July 22. Check their website for complete details. If you prefer to take in the scenic surroundings, head to Garvan Woodland Gardens (501-262-9300, garvangardens.org), a 210-acre botanical garden teeming with color and

creativity. Tour the gardens at your own pace or become a member and go on a Plant ID Hike (held each Thursday beginning at 8 a.m.) with the Director of Education, Rush Fentress. It’s a place to visit again and again, as the landscape changes with each season. With summer at its peak, you may be interested in spending some time on the water. Hot Springs has no shortage of amazing lakes, including Lake Catherine, Lake Ouachita, and Lake Hamilton. Whether you prefer to swim, waterski, or simply relax on a party barge, these waterways are a main attraction on summer weekends. ALL-AMERICAN

RETREAT DESIGNER PERI-GAY WALKER USES A TREASURED ARKANSAS SETTING AS THE BACKDROP FOR A MEMORABLE YET LOWKEY INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

Few Arkansas retreats—if any— are as steeped in tradition as Couchwood. Set on the scenic shores of Lake Catherine, the site, which actually consists of four cabins and a train car, was built by Harvey Couch, Sr. beginning in the late 1920s. Couch, who was the founder of Arkansas Power & Light and responsible for bringing hydroelectric power to the state, built the escape as a place to entertain friends and family as well as dignitaries, including President Herbert Hoover in 1927 and President and Mrs. Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1936. Today, it can be rented for weddings, family reunions, and company retreats from September through May. However, from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, it is reserved for exclusive use by the Couch family. Fittingly, at the peak of the season each year, the family hosts a star-studded Fourth of July gathering on the grounds. We asked Little Rock-based entertaining guru and designer Peri-Gay Walker to set the scene for this year’s annual get-together. Turn the page to see how she pulled together this simple, rustic soirée. July 2016 | athomearkansas.com 31

EASY IDEAS

SPICE IT UP Add a little kick to your favorite dishes. Peri-Gay created a recipe for a spicy “Firecracker Corn on the Cob” to delight diners. Get the recipe on our blog (athomearkansas.com/blog).

FOR A

FESTIVE & FLAVORFUL 4TH OF JULY DINE AL FRESCO It’s summer; now is the time to get out and enjoy nature, especially if you have a view like the one from this cabin. WORK WITH WHAT YOU HAVE No need to bring in dining tables or chairs, use your outdoor rocking chairs or pull a bench up to a fold-out table for a no-fuss set up. KEEP IT CASUAL Use baskets, enamelware, and other down-to-earth serving pieces rather than your best china. It will match your setting and be easy to transport from the kitchen. FEEL THE HUES Embrace red, white, and blue but still put your spin on this color combination and think creatively about how and where you’ll use the colors. For example, I limited the use of white on the table, but allowed a bit to enter the scheme in the decorations. SAY “YES” TO PIE Whether homemade or from a favorite local pie shop, these all-American sweets are a nostalgic must-have for any Independence Day social. I like storing them in a screened pie-safe to keep them fresh before serving. SWEETEN YOUR SIPS Add some oomph to your lemonade with fresh fruit (I used strawberries, blueberries, and orange slices) or a simple syrup purée. FLY YOUR FLAGS Don’t forget the most important decorative element of any Independence Day celebration—the flag. Use them to decorate your table scheme and be sure to hang one near your entrance as well. ADD RUSTIC FLAIR For a setting such as this cabin, burlap is a natural choice for table runners and ribbon. ACCENT WITH YELLOW Bringing in this color was a top priority for me. It feels fresh and I love that we were able to incorporate it through the wildflowers and sunflowers. EAT IN-SEASON Make your menu based on what is growing in the garden. For this gathering, fresh corn on the cob and fruit were a perfect pairing for burgers and hot dogs from the grill.

HANG A BANNER Whether it’s star cutouts (like the ones shown here) or a traditional flag bunting, nothing says “Happy Birthday America” quite like a simple red, white, and blue banner.

BRING IN LANTERNS Keep lanterns close at hand to fill with lit candles during dusk celebrations and fireworks shows. July 2016 | athomearkansas.com 33

ALAN ROBINSON ISN’T AFRAID TO GET HIS HANDS DIRTY. In fact, he invites the opportunity. As the owner of this stunning Mayflower home, he has planned and planted a garden that continues to evolve and thrive year after year. “I started in the spring of 2011, and it has kind of developed as I’ve gone along. I had the yard sodded but ended up removing sod in the places where I wanted to put in beds. There was no master design per se; Everything just kind of came to me as we went,” Robinson says.

Top: An iron figural birdbath was a birthday gift from his brother and sister-in-law that Robinson intends to fill with stones and shallow water to use as a butterfly bath for the numerous winged visitors to his garden. Below: A magenta bloom is one of many from the garden’s butterfly bushes.

ROBINSON CREDITS HIS FATHER WITH HIS GREEN THUMB. “MY DAD WAS A GARDENER AND HAD A GREENHOUSE WHERE HE RAISED ORCHIDS; I THINK HE PUT IT IN MY BLOOD,” HE LAUGHS.

Clockwise from top: Elegant concrete planters filled with greenery bring a refined feel to the walled courtyard. Iris blooms add a pop of rich color to the landscape. A concrete table paired with four iron chairs, which were a find made by Robinson’s designer Jayson Cain of Jayson Cain Interiors, makes for an informal yet sophisticated setting.

The cast stone range hood anchors the space while varying shades of cream and different textured treatments, seen in the cabinetry and wall paint as well as the stone archways, give the room visual interest without veering from the palette.

As the saying goes, “the third times a charm.” While the first two homes built by this Little Rock couple were equally desirable and attractive, the third space they completed together—a home on the shores of the Arkansas River—seems to be a true culmination of their passion for the outdoors as well as their desire for a clean and calm interior space. With a bit of foresight and the help of talented Little Rock-based designer Janna Toland they created a space that’s sure to be called home for decades to come. WELL POSITIONED “We had always lived in a neighborhood, and we knew we wanted land,” the homeowner says of the prompt to purchase approximately nine acres on the banks of the Arkansas River in West Little Rock. Initially, the land was far from build-ready. “When we first bought the property, you couldn’t see the river. So we leveled the land and cleared the property and built a sea wall to help with

flooding and erosion,” the homeowner says. Once the canvas was set, it was time to begin work on the home itself. Because of their past experience, they had some ideas in mind. “We sketched out the plans ourselves. We got pictures from magazines and pieced it together, you know, where we wanted the rooms to go and the size of them,” the homeowner explains. From there, they took the ideas and sketches to Gwen Couch, a relative with experience in drawing and designing homes. “She kind of pieced it together like a puzzle,” the homeowner says. These sketches included a stone façade, open living area with access to a pool and a view of the river, as well as five bedrooms to accommodate their soon-to-be-grown family, which includes two sons in college and one in high school. High on the priority list were lots of windows for light and “good living space, so there’s plenty of room for everyone when the boys come home,” the homeowner adds. Custom stone, seen on the back wall and floor, lends a refined European cottage feel to the home’s formal dining room. Facing page: A mix of natural materials, including iron, wood, and stone mix with tranquil art, accents, and upholstery in the home’s sitting room.

INTERIOR REFLECTIONS Turning their attention to the interior of the home, the homeowners called on Janna Toland whom they had worked with in the past. Their former home was French Country in style, and while this home is a departure from that aesthetic it still has an air of relaxed refinement that exudes grace and allows for a merger of formality and comfort. “I just wanted a clean, light look,” the homeowner says. More specifically, Toland describes the design as “California clean meets European softness.” The paint treatments and selected palette throughout the home are perhaps the most prominent display of this style. The entire home is wrapped in light, unimposing hues that are reflective of the nearby river as well as the land. “We used safe neutrals that reflect the outdoors without being overbearing,” Toland says. To add

interest and boldness to the design, Toland relied on textures and finishes. For example, a custom suede paint treatment on the walls provides depth and detail as well as a fluidity that’s reminiscent of the water. As for the furnishings, a mix of modernized pieces inspired by antique or old world finds fill the rooms to give the home a collected-over-time look as opposed to a brand-new feel. Case in point, replicated antique apothecary hardware and reproduction Bergère-style chairs mix seamlessly with a Suzanne Kasler lantern in the home’s sitting room. Other elements including the reclaimed wood floors seen throughout much of the home, the architecture’s stone curved archways, and even the linen bedding found in the master and guest suites are cozy elements intended to give what Toland calls a “sophisticated European cottage feel.” July 2016 | athomearkansas.com 45

In the guest bedroom, plush vintage-style Matteo linens welcome visitors, while a pair of lamps from the family’s previous home were topped with new shades before taking up residence on the room’s bedside tables. Facing page: In the master suite, a custom headboard mimics the shape and hue of the cast stone fireplace, while linen bedding adds softness to the design. The calming blue, beige, and cream palette carries over into the bath.

STEPPING OUT Of course, as the homeowner noted, much of the appeal of the home site was the location. To make the most of the riverfront setting, the home was designed in a U shape that opens up to reveal a view of the pool and outdoor area as well as the Arkansas River. Floor-to-ceiling windows and doors in all of the rooms that face the body of water give an unobstructed view and also allow an abundance of natural light to flow into the interior spaces. Toland notes that it was a main goal to casually extend the living space outdoors with the same European-influenced style. “The emphasis continued with layering the textures of stone, wood, concrete, rattan, and iron and then

using soft linens to accent the gorgeous outdoor backdrop and water. We did not want to create too much overdone color and pattern that would take your focus off the water or the picturesque landscape backdrop that seasonally provides its own texture and design,” Toland says. As for how the family enjoys the outdoor space, the homeowner says, “we love the view because you see the island and Maumelle, and we have a boat dock where the boys have a fishing boat. My boys and husband are big hunters and fishers, so they love living here for that aspect.” This coupled with the interior’s welcoming design make the couple’s third newly built home one that would be hard to top. On the back terrace, the home’s stonework reflects the river setting, while planted containers from The Good Earth Garden Center bring in lush greenery with a hint of color.

DESIGNER ANDREA BROOKS REVIVES HER FAMILY’S TREASURED SOUTH ARKANSAS CABIN IN AN EFFORT TO HONOR THEIR HERITAGE AND CREATE A COMFORTABLE, MODERNIZED ENVIRONMENT FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS S TO R Y: T I F FA N Y A D A M S | P H OTO G R A P H Y: R E T T P E E K | S T Y L I N G : C H I P J O N E S 50 At Home in Arkansas | July 2016

Brooks softened the cabin’s rustic stone and wood by introducing a palette of blue and orange in the living room. The colors, seen in the art as well as the accessories, help to give the room a slightly more feminine feel while staying true to the natural setting. Castoff oars from the family’s canoes are now wall art in the space.

July 2016 | athomearkansas.com 51

The dining room was originally a screened porch that was enclosed to offer more space for gathering in cooler months. Brooks’s father was an avid antiques collector and the oak buffet is an original piece he selected for the cabin when it was being built. Facing page (from top to bottom): In the kitchen, pecky cypress cabinets were given an update with a coat of gray paint. The French butcher block is a favorite piece. “It had a divet in it after the leak upstairs but we managed to salvage it,” Brooks says. A painting of a daffodil—a flower that can be seen across the property in the spring—by Arkansas artist Marlene Gremillion hangs over the bed in the master bedroom.

Beloved places and pastimes often come to mind when one reflects on the relationships shared with a parent or close relative. For Andrea Brooks, “the cabin”—as she affectionately refers to it—is just that place when fond memories of her father, John Lee Anthony, surface. Built under his direction in the 1990s, the cabin has enjoyed a storied history of family gatherings along with some fresh updates—prompted by an upstairs water leak—to make it even more inviting for the family members who often gather there. SACRED GROUND Brooks’s mother, Pat Anthony, purchased the land where the cabin is located as a birthday present for her husband nearly 40 years ago. In decades past, an Anthony saw mill—part of the family business—was located on the property; however, in more recent times, the land has been used for play rather than work. “I remember coming here [to a separate original lake house on the land] when I was a kid as a retreat. When I lived in Dallas and would come home, this was a getaway for me—a place to escape the busyness of the city,” Brooks says. Brooks’s father had a strong vision for the property and had long pined for a log home. The cabin is the culmination of this vision. Designed as a retreat, which he and Pat lived in full-time from the late 1990s until he passed away in 2001, the cabin is filled with historical pieces that are meaningful to the family. exploring nature welcome family members eager to share the same experiences. “My father was an outdoorsman at his core, and this place is a reflection of that,” Brooks says. The love he had for the place spilled over into Brooks and her two siblings as well. In fact, she finds the property so enchanting she chose it as the setting for her July 1997 wedding to her husband, Jay. ORIGINAL HOUSE PLAN Being in the timber business, a log cabin home seemed like a natural fit for the Anthonys. In fact, much of the original interior bones of the home are reminiscent of the Anthony family’s profession as well. For example, the wooden beams seen throughout the structure are from the Anthony plant. John Lee had them “roughed up” for use in the cabin. Additionally, both the home’s walls as well as the kitchen cabinetry are constructed from pecky cypress that is native to the area. These materials are not only reflective of the family business, but also of the surrounding landscape, thus adding to the home’s rustic look. REQUIRED RENOVATION Following her husband’s death, Pat Anthony returned to El Dorado to live and the cabin was used less frequently. In the fall of 2012, Pat visited the property with a plumber to repair a sink in the upstairs bathroom and the outlook had changed. Upon opening the door to the house, they discovered the sink had been leaking for three weeks. The leak was so massive that it affected much of the downstairs, including the kitchen and master bedroom. “It completely warped much of the furniture,” Brooks says. “The real wood flooring looked like bent piano keys,” she recalls. “This was really a turning point for the cabin. We weren’t coming here as much as I would have liked,” she adds, noting that reviving the home was a relevant reality for it to continue as a cherished family gathering spot. Knowing a full-scale renovation would be necessary to save the space, Brooks set out to update the house while staying true to her father’s vision. “I feel like this was a labor of love—a love letter to my dad to honor him and his dream home,” she says. Her main remodeling goals included making the space a bit more modern, adding feminine touches, and keeping everything comfortable. To do this, she used many of the home’s existing furnishings, including antiques and collectibles her father had amassed through the years while incorporating new hues and upholstered furniture as well as fresh outdoor furnishings. The footprint of the home did not change, but rather was restored so it could last through another generation. A NEW TRADITION With the cabin’s renovation complete, Brooks says they use it more than ever. “My entire family comes here for Christmas. My nieces, who live in Montgomery, Alabama, always look forward to having the holidays here, and we all open presents and hang out in the living room,” she says of the comfortable and welcoming space. This year, the family is also planning a Fourth of July gathering on the property, where they can fish, cook, and enjoy the simple pleasures of the land and being together—much the way Brooks’s father may have envisioned it at first sight. Most homeowners can relate: What starts as one thing often leads to another. Such was the case with this lakefront property. “It started out as being a very cosmetic update—paint and flooring, and addressing a few moisture issues,” Brittany Nixon Brun of Brittany Nixon Creative explains. “But we ended up with a pretty significant project. It was not quite gutted, but we touched every room.” The spacious Lake Hamilton home is a popular gathering spot for three generations of a Sheridan family, and while the renovation may not have been planned, it certainly improved the home’s function. “It’s not uncommon for the house to have 20-30 people in it, so we really needed to address some traffic flow issues and increase seating wherever possible,” Brun says. Because of the home’s proximity to the water (the lake is just steps from the patio doors), durability and ease of use were also priorities. Here’s a glimpse at how she made this lakeside retreat work for a crowd. GO BIG The main-level great room is an expansive space that was previously under-utilized with only one sofa and a few chairs. Brun updated the room with a new pair of sofas and two pairs of armchairs to double the seating space and fill the large room. Inspired by the view outside, the warm neutral palette is accented with shades of blue

and green that are reminiscent of the water. To enhance the space’s architecture, she had the ceiling covered in V-groove paneling and installed wood beams for texture. The ceiling treatment flows into the adjacent kitchen where new recessed-panel cabinetry updates the look and gives the room a timeless air. In both rooms, Brun chose linen-blend draperies and had an embroidered fabric cut down for use as a band on the leading edge. “In such a large space, a standard trim would have been totally lost. In big spaces, you need big gestures,” she says. KEEP IT CASUAL “A secondary home is an opportunity to be more relaxed and the door is open for more unique finishes,” Brun says, who also designed the homeowners’ primary residence. “Our goal was that the house be warm and inviting, casual and relaxing, and to not feel too brand new or trendy.” To achieve this, she brought the formality level of the home down a few notches, starting in the dining room where a mirrored ceiling and fluted columns felt out of place. Now, a twig chandelier hangs in place of its more formal crystal predecessor and is more fitting to the home’s location. In the same fashion, the chairs reference a French style, but the finish is reminiscent of driftwood to give them a laid-back look. July 2016 | athomearkansas.com 61

Brun sought a hotel-like serenity in the master bedroom. The sofa is by Bernhardt, and the armchairs brought in form the great room have new life in the master bedroom.

In the home’s lower level bunkroom, which often hosts grandchildren, simple pale blue quilts dress the beds. Facing page: A chandelier by Ro Sham Beaux and window treatments in a modern toile print (Pyne Hollyhock by Schumacher) add contrast to the white-and-marble en suite.

WORK WITH WHAT YOU HAVE To keep the house from feeling unfamiliar, Brun reused existing furniture and accessories where she could, often rethinking their purpose or appearance. In the kitchen, she selected a new breakfast table with a painted finish to lighten the space, but kept the existing chairs, recovering the seats with a practical vinyl that closely resembles leather. Similarly, a pair of armchairs from the great room was recovered for

use in the master bedroom. In the lower-level bunkroom, she rearranged the cottage-style beds and added a cheerful color palette to lighten the once-dark space. Many accessories were culled and moved about the home for optimal placement. For example, pieces from the homeowners’ ceramic collection (both old and new, precious and not) were pared down and grouped together on the great room’s newly installed shelves.

Pendant lights from Design Within Reach lend an industrial vibe to the kitchenette that is a focal point in the living area of the lower level. The island is wrapped in reclaimed wood that is stained in a tone Brun pulled from the Cambria quartz countertops. Facing page: A group of four club chairs offer a prime view of Lake Hamilton. Brun added a slipcover to soften an existing iron headboard. A drapery fabric by Thibaut gives the bedroom a refreshing splash of green that is echoed on the bedding accessories and lamp.

MAKE EVERY SPACE COUNT The lower-level great room is a popular hangout spot for the teen- and college-aged crowd along with their friends. By relocating the dining area —used for games as well as meals—and TV-watching zones to the back of this space, Brun optimized a missed opportunity in the original layout. She brought the kitchenette from the back of the room to the front, making snacks and drinks now just steps away from the boat dock, while a conversation zone with four swiveling armchairs has the best view of the lake. “I wanted to make sure that everything in the home said ‘come on in and have a seat,’” she says.

Local Favorites LAURA’S HOT SPRINGS MUST-VISIT EATERY “TACO MAMA is hands-down our favorite local spot in Hot Springs. The food is fresh, homemade, and always so delicious. We love the atmosphere, the people and especially the margaritas...they keep us coming back every week!” —Laura LaRue, Senior Graphic Designer

CHIP’S NORTHWEST ARKANSAS PICK “I cannot make a trip to Fayetteville without dropping into BOUCHÉE BISTRO for a meal or snack. My all-time favorite for lunch is the Croque Madame, made as original to the French recipe as those in the heart of Paris. But, what would a visit be to Bouchée without a delicious homemade pastry? Not only are the desserts artistically dressed, but the unique flavors are out of this world.” —Chip Jones, Editor in Chief

DEBBIE’S HEIGHTS HAUNT “HEIGHTS TACO & TAMALE CO. not only has a great atmosphere but great food and service. I love their grilled chicken tacos with the rice and cucumber salad. And, of course, their Melting Pot Cheese Dip is delicious.” —Debbie Tissue, Marketing and Distribution Coordinator

NORMA’S RIVERDALE CHOICE “I love to have lunch at LOCA LUNA. There are really too many favorites to choose from, but if I have to pick, it’s got to be the pizza. The description of the pepperoni pizza simply says ‘The Best Pepperoni.’ And, yes, it is the best.” —Norma Edwards, Art Director

TIFFANY’S FAYETTEVILLE FAVORITE “It’s hard to beat BORDINOS on Dickson Street. Whether you’re celebrating with friends or want a quiet dinner, the atmosphere is always spot on. I recommend the Ricotta-Chèvre Gnocchi if you’re visiting for dinner.” —Tiffany Adams, Managing Editor

JENNIFER'S HOT SPRINGS VOTE I love the tamale spread at MCCLARD'S BAR-B-Q. I try to stop in for lunch whenever I'm in the Hot Springs area; this iconic restaurant is just too delicious to pass up." —Jennifer Hay, Senior Account Executive

There’s, perhaps, no flower more reminiscent of a casual summer day than a sunflower. With large cheerful faces, these blooms seem to wear a smile that knows of mornings spent by the water’s edge, afternoons of chats on the porch with a glass of iced tea, and nights of fireflies and homemade ice cream. And, while these American natives may be beautiful, they are equally hardy and able to tolerate summer’s elements when grown in the garden.
