Teacher as Leader in the Classroom

LEARN

Wednesday, Jan. 28 12 - 1 p.m. Kelowna Campus Room E102

When it comes to the world of education, we all understand what it means to be a teacher, tutor, instructor, facilitator, or presenter in face-to-face and online learning environments. But what about the idea of a leader...what does it mean to be a leader in an educational setting that intentionally supports students in their learning journey? In this Lunch and Learn session we will take a look at how we can be the kind of leaders who will guide our students from being dependent learners to more autonomous learners. Roberta is an avid learner who is passionate about equipping and encouraging individuals to bring the best of themselves to all they do. Having begun her post-secondary education after raising two children, Roberta walked the path of achieving her Provincial Instructors Diploma, her Diploma in Adult Education, challenging a Bachelor Level Degree, and proceeding right to receiving an Honours in a Masters of Leadership and Management. Roberta’s career has afforded her the opportunity to be in leadership roles in both non-profit, and for-profit organizations, as well as the world of academia. While most of her time is now spent teaching in the Okanagan School of Business, she also does online facilitation of Learner Centred Instruction, curriculum design, and works with individuals and teams focusing on training and development.
