Asian Recipes to Enhance your Cookbook

Asian Inspirations

Asian recipes are hard to master. Maybe it’s because of the number of ingredients that go into their making, or maybe it’s the number of techniques involved in the making of the dish itself. But whatever it is, rest assured you need a really good recipe.

If you want to have some fun in the kitchen, and experiment with some amazing Asian recipes, why not try your hand at these amazing Southeast Asian recipes? It’s your turn to turn pro.

Kaya Jam: Whisk egg yolks with ¼ cup of coconut cream, in a medium bowl. Set this aside. Grab a saucepan, and heat palm sugar until it melts. Cook until it has caramelized. Whisk in 1 ¼ cups of coconut cream. Heat the mixture and stir until smooth. Remove from heat after 8 minutes, and whisk half of the mixture into the yolk mixture. Return it all to the saucepan and gently heat. The mixture will thicken to a pudding-type consistency. Strain into container and chill until cold. Serve with toasted bread.

Thai Spicy Duck Salad: Whisk together lime juice, sesame oil, fish sauce, sugar, and chili in a small bowl, and set aside. Place cashews in a small cast iron skillet over medium heat. Toast until fragrant and lightly browned. Then transfer them into another bowl. Add pineapples, onions and cilantro. Light a chimney of charcoal. When all the charcoal is covered with grey ash, pour out and arrange the coals on one side of the charcoal grate. Set cooking grate in place, cover grill and preheat for 5 minutes. Clean and oil the grilling grate. Score duck skin diagonally every 1/2-inch. Season breast with salt and pepper. Place duck breast on hot side of grill, skin side down, and cook until skin has browned and crisped. Flip and brown on other side. Move duck to cool side of grill, cover, and continue to cook until a thermometer registers 130 degrees when inserted into middle of breast. Remove duck from grill and let rest a few minutes. Thinly slice duck, halving any long strips into bite-size pieces. Add duck into bowl with pineapple mixture. Pour on dressing and toss to combine. Serve hot!

Asian Sweet and Sour Steamed Fish: Fill a wok with 1 to 2 inches of water and place a steamer insert inside. Alternatively, adjust oven rack to centre position and preheat oven to 350째F. Arrange fish steaks in a glass baking dish that fits them. Combine chillies, shallots, chili sauce, and oyster sauce, in a small bowl. Pour sauce over steaks. Cover dish tightly with foil. Place in steamer or oven and cook until fish is barely cooked through, 15 to 20 minutes. Sprinkle with cilantro leaves and serve with steamed jasmine rice.
