Availability of Power supply is an important factor for a country’s socio-economic development. Bangladesh is a third-world country where only 47 percent of the entire population has access to power supply and the per capita power consumption is only 220 kWh [1]. From Table 1.1, it is seen that compared to per capita electricity consumption of BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) and SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation countries such as Pakistan, Srilanka) the per capita consumption of Bangladesh is very low.

In Bangladesh most of the power plants run by conventional energy resources like natural gas, coal and other fuels. These Conventional energy resources are not only limited but also the prime cause for environmental pollution. The consumption of fossil fuels has an environmental impact, in particular the release of carbon dioxide (CO 2) into the atmosphere. CO2 emissions can be greatly reduced through the use of renewable energy technologies. Use of Renewable energy gained popularity among the people in Bangladesh from the late 1990s. Solar, Wind, Biomass and Hydro energy are some of the Renewable Energy resources used in the country. Among all these, solar energy is a promising one for Bangladesh due to
