Poor boy pot soup

“He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will carry the lambs in his arms, holding them close to his heart. He will gently lead the mother sheep with their young.” -Isaiah 40:11

The Common Ingredient:

The Hardware: One large pot for soup The Ingredients 3 cans of Campbell’s Potato soup One can of Kale One package of Turkey sausage (or any smoked sausage of your choice!) 1 tablespoon of olive oil 1/4 cup of cooking liquid. I prefer milk, but you could use chicken or veggie broth, white cooking wine or even water.

When we think of soup, our first thought is usually of mom’s soup when we were young and sick. It is so good to know that no matter how old we get, or where we are in life, when the comforts of home are hard to come by, God is always there.

Prep Time: 5 mins Cook Time: 15 mins

Preparation In a deep pot that you can also sauté in, add the oil. Cut up the sausage into manageable bite sized pieces and sauté until they have some color to them. Add the soup, 1/4 cup or more of the kale (the rest can be frozen), and the cooking liquid. Let cook together for about 10 more minutes. Serve and enjoy!!!

Bar-B-Que chicken salad The Hardware: A big bowl, that’s it! The Ingredients: 2 bbq chicken breasts or 3 thighs (I prefer the thighs they have more flavor!) 2 tblsps of bbq sauce 4 tblsps of ranch dressing 2 boiled eggs chopped 1 tsp each of fresh cilantro, dill and chives 1 tblsps of brown mustard Preparation Shred chicken into bowl and combine ingredients. Mix well. If the mixture is too dry for you, add more ranch as more bbq would overpower the mixture. If you like it dryer do one less tablespoon of ranch. Add salt and pepper to taste and enjoy!!!

“Then thou shalt call, and the Lord will answer; thou shalt cry and he shall say, here I am.” -Isaiah 43:4 _________________________

The Common Ingredient: When you think of a Bar-B-Q you think of summer time with your friends and family around at a cook out. There is no better feeling than having the ones you love the most around. Think back to a time that you longed for someone to be there and God comforted you with his presence.

Whole Wheat Pasta with Ham

“Behold I will pour out my spirit unto you; I will make know my words unto you. Proverbs 1:23

The Hardware: A pot large enough to boil spaghetti A skillet, preferably the one you cooked the bacon in! The Ingredients: Left over bacon grease About 4 oz of ham cut into cubes or bite size pieces 1 half can of diced tomatoes 1 half cans tomato sauce 2 tbl spoons of ketchup 1/4 cup of chicken stock 8 oz (half a package) of Whole wheat Spaghetti 1/2 tbl spoon of brown mustard 2 tsp of flour Salt (to boil pasta NOT for the sauce) Pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, parsley, sage, nutmeg to taste. (do not use too much of the sage or nutmeg as these are strong flavors. If you have fresh herbs use them but add at the end of the sauce. If using fresh garlic and onions dice them fine and add at the beginning of sauce!) Preparation: In the skillet that contains the bacon grease (or not) add the mustard, the tomato sauce, ketchup and chicken broth over medium heat. As the mixture boils add the flour one tsp at a time, sprinkling it over the entire pan and whisking to avoid lumps. Let the 'gravy' come to a boil twice, whisking in between. After the second boil, add tomatoes, and mash them with a fork. Reduce heat to low, or simmer and put on pasta. While both are going, dice the ham if you haven't done so already. When the pasta is three mins from al dente, add the herbs and spices and the ham. Allow to cook for two mins then drain and add pasta. Toss together and let simmer for one or two mins. Serve and enjoy!!

The Common Ingredient: Even if you are not eating spaghetti with red sauce, there is still this warm, cozy feeling that comes along with the noodles. Think of the last time you asked God to pour out his Spirit upon you. Why did you ask? Did he do it? How did it make you feel?

“The High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity…”

Ransala Chicken The Hardware: A pot to boil egg noodles, a cast iron skillet and a casserole dish The Ingredients: 4 boneless and skinless chicken breast 1 package of no yolk egg noodles 1 small can of corn (not creamed) 1 can of Mexican salsa (the one you find in your Mexican aisle at the store, not the jarred salsa please!) 1 package of ranch dressing mix in the pouch 1/2 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes Salt and pepper to taste 1 can of cream of chicken soup Preparation: In the pot boil noodles until just under al dente. Place in a strainer and move to an ice bath to stop the cooking. In the pot you had the noodles in combine the canned items, corn drained please and heat just enough to thin the soup. Take off of heat. Add salt and pepper to chicken and brown on top of stove. Once chicken is browned, spray the casserole dish with non-stick spray, pour in noodles and stir in the ranch dressing packet. Place browned chicken pieces on top and pour soup mixture over. Top with cheese if you like. Bake in a 350 degree oven for another 15-20 mins or until chicken is done. Serves 4

Isaiah 57:15 NIV

The common Ingredient: Every culture has an esteemed chicken dish. Chicken seems to be an “allowable” food to many religious sects as well. As you prepare and enjoy this dish think about how God transcends boundaries. Think about the way God is involved in the various aspects of your life.

Crockpot Cabbage and Beef Tips The Hardware: One Slow cooker or Crockpot Knife for slicing The Ingredients: One medium head of cabbage Two cans of sliced potatoes One half package of onion soup mix One pound of beef tips cut into manageable, but not "bite size" pieces.* 1 tablespoon of light salt 1 teaspoon each of: Herbs d' Province, Italian seasoning, garlic power, chili powder or chili flakes 3 tablespoons each of Red wine vinegar and balsamic vinegar a pinch of sugar to cut the bitterness 1 tablespoon of butter Water to just cover the ingredients * Cutting them too small will make them tough. You can use beef stew but you will need to increase the cooking time one hour.

The Common Ingredient: There is nothing like knowing we can save time by cooking…slow! You put it in the slow cooker and forget about it. When you’re ready to eat at the end of a long day, it is ready and waiting. Doesn’t that sound a lot like how prayer works? You pray, forget about it and before you know it God has worked it out!

Prep Time: 5 mins Cook Time: 20 mins Serves: 4 Notes:

Preparation: Slice the head of cabbage as you would if you were going to steam it. It will technically be shredded. Add the cabbage, meat, butter, onion soup mix and seasonings to the slow cooker. Add just enough water to cover the ingredients. Cover and set cooker to Medium high heat and let cook for 2 hours stirring constantly. If you are using the beef tips reduce heat to low and add potatoes. Continue cooking for two hours. If you are using beef stew, then reduce heat to medium low, cook an additional hour then add potatoes reduce to low cook the remaining two hours. Serve with cornbread and enjoy. 9 SALT: Heartfelt Dishes

Baked Salmon with Vegetables The Hardware: 1 baking sheet Reynolds Brand oven bags The Ingredients: One lemon to slice and one to destroy! 2 to 4 one inch thick salmon steaks Dill to taste Salt and Pepper to taste Fresh Parsley to taste 1 red bell pepper, sliced 1 cup broccoli spears 1 cup carrots sliced Minced garlic, about a tablespoon Flour to coat bags Preparation: You will need to make your fish in individual bags so each person gets one of their own. Sprinkle a little flour on the inside of the bag so the fish does not stick. Place vegetables in bag and cover with about 3 table spoons of water. This will allow veggies to steam properly. Place salted and peppered salmon in bag. Sprinkle with the herbs and evenly distribute the garlic. Slice one of the lemons and place it to the side. Take the other lemon and zest it over each of your bags of fish and squeeze the juice over each. Then place 2 lemon slices on top of fish in each bag. Tie bags with nylon ties and cut a 2 inch slit in each. Place on the baking sheet and put in a 350 degree oven for 20 min. allow them to sit in bag for at least 2 min before opening. Be careful, steam is hot. Enjoy!!!

“That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, thogh it be tried with fire, might be found unto parase and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ." 1 Peter 1:7 The Common Ingredient: It is amazing what putting bagged food in the oven does to it? Especially fish! It comes out tender and flaky and succulent. What does fire and steam do to the human spirit? When was the last time you felt “pressure” and prevailed by the strength of God?

Easy Chicken Parmesan The Hardware: Large pot for boiling pasta Large 9 x13 baking dish Sauce pan for pasta sauce One large baking tray The Ingredients: 4 Great Value Grilled Chicken Breast Patties 4 Great Value Breaded Chicken Breast Patties 1 tablespoon of light salt 1 teaspoon each of: Herbs d' Province, Italian seasoning, garlic power, cinnamon, yellow curry powder, rosemary and onion flakes 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar 1/4 cup of sugar to cut the bitterness 1 tablespoon of butter 1 box of spaghetti 1 small can or about a cup of mushrooms sliced 2 cups parmesan cheese (it also works with pizza blend, but it is after all chicken Parmesan!!!!) 2 cans of tomato sauce or a jar of your fav prepared sauce

The Common Ingredients: It helps to know that such a wonderful meal can be made easier and get out to the table faster. A relationship with God makes many burdens easier to bear. Take the time to ask God right now to bear the burden of a situation you are facing right now.

Prep Time: 15 min Cook Time: 20 min total Servings: Eight nice size portions Notes:

Preparation: On you baking sheet, place all the patties on the tray. I know the packages read different cooking times but trust me, the breaded ones will be so much better if you cook them this way and the grilled ones will not be rubbery. Cook both style patties for 18 mins on 350. Allow them to cool while you prepare the sauce. Leave your oven set to this temp. In the sauce pan combine the sauce mushrooms and seasonings and let come to a boil. Once it gets rolling good drop the heat and start boiling your pasta. Before you drain it, reserve a cup of the liquid. Once your patties have cooled, cut the grilled patties into bite size pieces and the breaded ones into halves. Once your pasta is done, reserve one cup of the water and drain. Put a spoonful of the sauce at the bottom of your baking dish and add your drained spaghetti and pour your pasta water over it. Put a layer of cheese on top. Next layer your grilled chicken pieces and pour the sauce over. Add breaded pieces in two rows across the top and put the remainder of your cheese on top. Place in the over for 8 to ten minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve with salad and garlic bread. Enjoy!

Preparation: On medium high heat add 2 tsp of oil and brown tatter tots first. Don't deep fry! You just wanna brown them enough for them to hold up in the casserole. Once they have browned, move them to the waiting casserole dish. Brown the ground meat of your choice. Once it has cooked, drain and season to taste. Add one can of chili on top of the tater tots in casserole dish. Add half of the meat and then Add one cup of the cheese. Add the rest of the meat, the other can of chili and the last of the cheese. Cover the dish with aluminum foil. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 15 minutes. Remove foil and bake an addition 5 to 10 mins. Or until the cheese is bubbly and gooey!!!! Enjoy!

Bride Groom Pie The Hardware: One heavy cast iron skillet The Ingredients: 1 small bag of frozen berries (I preffer mixed but any kind will work ½ cup of sugar 1/3 cup of melted butter 1 can or 6 medium size biscuits

Preparation: Over medium high, place the berries, butter and sugar in the cast iron skillet and mix well to combine. The coating will be a little light in the berries but don't worry it is supposed to be like that. Cook the berry mixture until a thick syrup forms...about 10 min. or longer. Then drop to medium heat. Once you have dropped the heat, open up the biscuits and place them around the top of the berries, 1 inch apart starting on the outside. Once assembled, place a lid on top and let the pie go on stove top for 10 more min. Meanwhile, pre heat your oven to 350. You're gonna need it! Now, place the pie in the oven, lid off please, until the biscuits have browned on top about 15-20 min. Then LET IT COOL FOR 15 MIN before spooning and serving.

Listen! I am standing at the door, knocking; if you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to you and eat with you and you with me. Revelations 3:20 NRSV

The Common Ingredient: There is usually always a craving associated with a hot sweet pie. Did you know that God yearns for us? He has called us friends and children, heirs to the kingdom. What will you do to get close to God? Have you decided to let him in to have full reign over your life? Do you crave God?
