Polo for Charity Event Announces Leadership Transition After sponsoring 25 Charity Polo matches, the Rotary Club of Okatie Bluffton is transitioning leadership of the event to the joint care of the Lowcountry Foundation for Wounded Military Heroes (LFWMH) and the 200 Club of the Coastal Empire. Both charitable organizations have agreed to host the next event scheduled for Sunday, October 27, 2019 at the Rose Hill Equestrian Center. The event will be renamed to “Polo 4 Heroes” with proceeds from the event benefiting our local heroes and their families -- military veterans, firefighters & law enforcement officers injured in the line of duty. The event will be an important part of our fundraising commitment to help wounded heroes and their families in the Lowcountry. These two local nonprofit charities, organized and operated 100% by volunteers, raise funds to support our local heroes injured or having perished in the line of duty. The LFWMH and the 200 Club of the Coastal Empire, serve similar missions - helping to care for those who care for us. A new website www.Polo4Heroes.com has been established as the portal for future information and sponsorship opportunities of the event. For More Information: Contact Joe Grimm at Polo4Heroes@gmail.com. About LFWMH: The Lowcountry Foundation for Wounded Military Heroes (LFWMH) is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing support to combat wounded military heroes in the Lowcountry of South Carolina and Georgia. Neighborhood Activity Spotlight: A Few Words about Bocce in Rose Hill Several years ago a group of residents decided to start playing Bocce Ball. At that time we did not have any courts, we made our own by just roping of 2 or 3 60ft x 10ft grassy areas over by the tennis courts and the pool on the south side. We played twice a month, weather permitting, and did not play in the summer as it was too hot. When we played it was all just for fun. It was mix teams that were selected depending on who showed up. We played by the rules but it was all just for fun, no leagues, no permanent teams. In fact the event was more social than anything. A chance to catch up with neighbors or meet new ones. We eventually got 2 permanent courts built in that same location. The original surface was not a perfect Bocce turf, but that has now been replaced with a proper Bocce synthetic surface that is very true. The balls roll perfectly! As the weather gets cooler we will start playing again and an email notice will be sent out inviting anyone to come. Hopefully we will get some new people. Bring you chairs and refreshments and your good arm. In the past it has been at 2:00 PM on a Sunday, this will be announced. The Bocce Courts are open to any person at time if you wish to play on your own or with a group. Thank you, Tonia and John Hobbs jhobbs@hargray.com
