DO YOU ENJOY WRITING? The POA Communications Committee would like to expand the scope of Rose Hill’s quarterly newsletter publication, The Plantation Voice. The thought is that the Voice would include an informal “neighbors sharing with neighbors” article or two in each issue. This neighbors section would be tips, stories, pearls of wisdom, etc. from the people in the community…. that is people chatting with people about their thoughts and experiences. Just about anything goes. Some ideas could be something like: how I trained my dog to stop pulling on the leash, the “fun” I had repainting my house, best places to find/eat chocolate in the area, how my pet cat, bird, reptile, dog enriches my life, my favorite place to visit in the low country, how I bought my new car, my kayaking experience on the Colleton or in the local marshes, how we had fun at the Polo match, how do you entertain out of town visitors for five days? …just about anything goes! Don’t worry about your writing skills. Crystal is a great editor! Then there is always spell checker on the computer, which I, personally, find very useful. Please email or drop off a hard copy to Crystal in the POA office. crystal@rosehillpoa.com The Committee hopes everyone will enjoy creating and reading these tidbits from members of the community.

Rose Hill Birders For the last dozen or so years a group of us has gone out through and along the waterways and wilds of Rose Hill from Colleton Point to Bill Baker Park, on foot and even in kayaks. We have diligently collected data for the annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count, the largest citizen science project known. The morning of our most recent count we spotted the elusive and pretty rare Red Headed Wood pecker … and have pictures to prove it!! Last week folks spotted the beautiful Roseate Spoonbill, actually 4 of them, “vacationing” here in Rose Hill. We are forming a bird group - not necessarily experts, by any means - just ‘ordinary folks’ who enjoy going about the outdoors with a bird book in one hand and binoculars and/or camera in the other. Our goal is to provide a central resource to report sightings of unusual birds for others to enjoy, to meet and share photos and stories , and to enjoy an occasional bird outing together … and perhaps some non-birding get-togethers, as well! If you’d like to be on our mailing list for this birding group, please contact Bob Wiener at bobwiener10@gmail.com or at 843-684-2461.
ROSE HILL RESIDENT TO TAKE CHURCH CHOIR TO… CARNEGIE HALL The Distinguished Concerts International of New York has invited Music and Choir Director Norma Brown and the Church of Palms Choir, to join with other outstanding musicians from the Distinguished Concerts Singers International at the Isaac Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall in New York City on December 2, 2019. The 5 day excursion includes 2 days in transit to and from New York, 2 days in rehearsals of about 8-9 hours, followed by the day of the performance. Visiting a few sites in New York City is also planned. The group will participate in a performance of “Heaven’s Child” conducted by the composer, Pepper Choplin, who made his Carnegie debut in 2013. 2 years later at Lincoln Center, he conducted his new cantata, “Our Father” based on the Lord’s Prayer. This event is a unique opportunity for the Lowcountry of South Carolina to be represented in a most unique manner. Rose Hill community members who wish to offer financial support to help defray the costs of sending these singers to New York for the prestigious Carnegie Hall performance, contact Norma Brown at norma@palmsumc.org .
