The Neighborhood San Carlos
, a friendly, middle-class neighborhood within the city limits of San Diego, is bordered by the neighborhoods of Del Cerro to the west and Fletcher Hills to the east, and the cities of La Mesa to the south and Santee to the north. For the more adventurous hiker or runner, climb up Cowles Mountain. The three-mile roundtrip trek with a 933-foot vertical ascent leads to the 1,591-foot summit, the highest point in the city of San Diego. Just below Cowles Mountain, golf at the 18-hole, public Mission Trails Golf Course or hit a few balls at its lighted driving range or practice putting greens. Residents don’t have far to travel to shop. Grossmont Center, an outdoor mall with over 100 stores, is anchored by Macy’s, Walmart, Target, and Restoration Hardware Outlet, as well as a 10-screen movie theater with stadium seating. Part of the San Diego Unified School District, San Carlos has four elementary schools, two middle schools, and highranking Patrick Henry High School. San Diego State University is close by.
