Best Friends! Hey, girls! Do you know God wants to be your very special friend? He knows everything about you, and He wants you to know Him. This hands-on devotional book will help you discover God and His ways. You’ll also find out that as you learn to live God’s way, He will point you toward making the best choices in your daily life. Living God’s way is different than living your own way. That’s why it’s so important to learn to live His way. When we love God, He helps us learn to obey Him even when we don’t want to at first. Living His way is the perfect way to be happy! If there are words or ideas you find hard to understand, ask your parents or another adult to help you. If you’re just learning to read, ask your parents, another family member, or an adult you trust to read this book with you. Puzzle answers are at the back of the book. You can read the devotionals in this book whenever you want and in whatever order you like. Memorize each week’s Bible verse and don’t forget to pray! Ask God to help you use what you learn. Remember to listen for God’s voice in your heart and mind.
Being friends with God is awesome, s o le t’s get s tar ted! 7
Week 1 – Day 1
God Wants You to Know Him I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols.
– Isaiah 42:8
God S hows Himself in the Bible
“What’s your name?” “My name is Sally. I live in the yellow house on the corner.” “It’s nice to meet you, Sally. My name is Tracy. I live in the blue house by the park.” When you first meet people, it is good to find out their names and tell them yours. How do you explain to others who you are? If you tell them your name, you share one of the most important things about you. By trading names, you are sharing about yourself. God tells about Himself in the Bible. In today’s verse, God is introducing Himself. He wants you to know Him as well as you know your own family. God already knows everything about you. He knows you so well that “even the very hairs of your head are all numbered” (Matthew 10:30). However, God loves to listen to you talk to Him. He likes it when you share about yourself.
Your Turn 1. How do you tell people who you are? 2. How does God tell you who He is? 3. How can you tell your friends about God? __________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________

The Bible Tells What God Is L ike
The day you were born was a happy day for your parents. Before you came home from the hospital, they signed a birth certificate. A birth certificate tells about you. It has your name and your parents’ names. It also tells the time and place you were born. Do you think God has a birth certificate? No! Why? Because God was not born. He does not have an age. He has always been! Your birth certificate tells who you are and some other things about you. But God tells us His names and other things about Him in His Word, the Bible. The Bible tells us who God is—God has many names that help us to know Him. He is called Immanuel (“God with us”). He is also called the Good Shepherd. The Bible also tells what God does. It tells us that He is the Creator of everything. He sees and hears us. And the Bible says He always loves us. He never changes His mind about that!
Your Turn 1. What are some things the Bible tells us about God? 2. What is something you would like to know about God? __________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________
Prayer
I thank You, God, for the Bible. Your Word tells me who You are and what You are like. Help me remember to read Your Word each day. Amen. 12

God Wants You to Know Him I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols. – Isaiah 42:8

God Wants You to Know Him I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols.
– Isaiah 42:8
Naming the Stars
Did you know that God has a name for every star? It’s true! Psalm 147:4 tells that He chose how many stars to make and calls each one by name. Draw stars in the frame. Give each one a name. Then look for stars tonight!
Prayer
God, I see Your work in the night sky. Thank You for being my God. Amen. 14
Week 1 – Day 7
God Wants You to Know Him I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols.
– Isaiah 42:8
Family A pple Tree
Write the names of family members on the apples. Put your mother’s family on one side of the tree. Put your father’s family on the other side of the tree. Let this family apple tree remind you that the same God who created apple trees also created you and your family.
Prayer
God, thank You for making all Your creations, and my family, too. Amen. 15
Week 2 – Day 1
God S ees Things You Can’t You are the God who sees me.
– Genesis 16:13
God S ees Everything
Do you know people who wear glasses to see better? Without glasses they have a hard time reading texts and even road signs. But God never needs glasses. He is the God who sees everything. Can you see a movie and your grandmother at the same time? God can! When you stand on the shore of a lake or ocean, look down into the water. Can you see fish swimming at the bottom? God can!
Your Turn 1. What are some good things God sees when He looks at you? 2. What are some not-so-good things you think God sees? 3. What could you ask God to help you change? __________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________
Prayer
Lord, I love You. I am glad You see me and want me to know You. Stop me when You see I am headed for trouble. Amen. 16

Draw a picture of yourself in one lens. Draw a picture of your family in the other lens. Remember, God lovingly sees you and your family. Here’s another idea. Point to what you see and say, “God sees the trees,” and “God sees the birds,” and “God sees the cars.”
Prayer
Lord, thank You that You see me and that You love me. Amen. 17
Week 2 – Day 3
God S ees Things You Can’t You are the God who sees me.
– Genesis 16:13
My Psalm to God Who S ees Me
Read Psalm 139:2. A psalm is like a song for God. Write your own psalm by adding your own words.

Prayer
Thank You, God, for watching me and loving me. Amen. 18
Week 2 – Day 4
God S ees Things You Can’t You are the God who sees me.
– Genesis 16:13
God Cares A bout Your Feelings
Do you live in an apartment or a house? The place you live is your home. Your home is where you stay. Your heart is like your home for your feelings. Your heart is where your feelings live. Love or hate can live in your heart-home. A hug can make your heart feel happy. A clap of thunder can make your heart feel afraid. Your sister playing in your room without asking might make your heart mad. God sees everything in your heart. He looks in your heart because He loves you. God wants to cheer you when you are sad. He wants to rejoice with you when you are happy. God will comfort you when you are afraid. He cares about all of your feelings.
Your Turn 1. What makes you feel afraid? 2. When God sees your afraid feelings, how does He help you? __________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________
Prayer
God, You look inside my heart. I know I can ask You for help, joy, and comfort. Thank You. Amen. 19
