Introduction the best ways to teach children biblical truths and Christian attitudes is through OneBibleof stories. In fact, there are hundreds of interesting and exciting stories that fill the Bible! These stories make spiritual truths come alive. When you teach Bible stories to children, they learn how to live the Christian life through the examples of real people with victories and struggles. This book provides over 80 Bible-learning activities designed to teach Favorite Bible Stories and biblical principles from both the Old and New Testaments. As your 4- and 5-year-olds do these activities, they will begin to learn not only the Bible stories themselves, but also how much their God loves and cares for them. There are two Bible-learning activities for each Bible story. You may choose to use either or both of the activities in teaching the Bible story. And because this book is reproducible, you may make copies of each activity. You’ll find a great variety of activities, suitable for a variety of teaching situations, that are designed for the abilities of 4s and 5s – coloring, cutting, pasting and folding activities, puppets, stand-up animals, connect-the-dots, hidden pictures, find and circle activities and many more exciting activities just right for this age. Each activity sheet features a short introductory paragraph that refers to the Bible story and gives instructions for the activity. These paragraphs are designed to be read aloud to the children. The top of each page also lists the Bible story and Scripture reference. A special “ For the Teacher” section at the bottom of each page gives valuable teaching tips, hints for using an activity, or further instructions just for you. (Cover this section prior to making copies so the teaching ideas do not appear on the children’s papers.) Most activities require only ordinary school supplies or household items. Care should always be taken to ensure the safety of the children, so keep staples, scissors, paper fasteners and all other potentially harmful items out of their hands. Children will look forward to your class with the opportunity to work on these fun activities. And the wide variety of different learning projects will help your children learn and remember Bible stories – many of which are sure to become their favorites!

Things God Made

God’s Creation G en es i s 1

God made the world. He made the sun and the moon and the stars. He made all the plants and the animals and fish. God made all the people, too. God made you! Color the pictures of things God made. Cross out the things people have made. We should be thankful to God for the wonderful world He made for us.

For the Teacher: As the children work, talk about the pictures and about other things God made.

Close with a short prayer the children can repeat after you, thanking God for His wonderful creations. 10

God’s Creation G en es i s 1

Baby Animal Match When God made our world, He made all of the animals and birds and fish. He made animals so they would have babies that grow up and make more animals. Can you name all the animals in the pictures? Which of these animals make good pets? Color all the animals. Then cut apart the picture squares. Mix up the cards. Can you match the mother animals with their babies? We should be thankful to God for the wonderful animals He made.

For the Teacher: If possible, bring a family of kittens, puppies or rabbits to your class for the

children to watch. Say, God planned for animals to have families to take care of them. God also planned for us to have families to take care of us. Close with prayer, thanking God for families and for His animal creations. 11

A Garden Home

Adam and Eve Genesis 1 : 2 6 – 2: 25

Adam and Eve were the first man and woman God made. God also made them a beautiful garden where they could live. It had everything they needed. God told Adam and Eve not to eat the fruit on one very special tree. A wicked snake came and told Eve to go ahead and eat the fruit. Eve ate the fruit, and so did Adam. God was very unhappy with Adam and Eve. God punished Adam and Eve by sending them away from their garden home. This story teaches us that it is always best to obey God. Color the picture of Adam and Eve in their garden home. Draw some fruit on the tree and draw a snake under the tree.

For the Teacher: Help the children understand what it means to obey God. Relate this to obedience to parents and teachers, treating others with kindness, being helpful, etc. 12

Name the Animals

Adam and Eve Genesis 1 : 2 6 – 2: 25

When God created the world and all the animals, He also created a man and woman named Adam and Eve. God gave Adam a very special job. God told Adam to name all the animals. Pretend you are Adam. Trace the dashed lines to complete the pictures of some of the animals God created. Then name all the animals. You can tell God you are thankful for all the things He created.

For the Teacher: Let the children use their imaginations to think of other names that Adam could have given the animals. Lead the children in a prayer of thanksgiving for the animals God made. 13

Noah and the Ark es i s 6 : 8 – 8 : 2 2 n e G

Pretzel Ark God told Noah to build a big boat. The boat was called an “ark.” God told Noah to take his family, and a pair of every kind of animal, into the ark to protect them from a great flood. God wanted to be sure the animals and the people were safe. God took care of Noah and the animals. God is taking care of us, too. Color the pictures of the animals. Color brown the space below the animals. Cut out the picture on the heavy black line. Your teacher will show you how to glue a pretzel over the dashed lines on the picture to make the ark. Cut out the words and glue them to the front of the pretzel. Take your ark home to help you remember that God is taking care of you.

For the Teacher: Provide large Bavarian-style pretzels (found in the grocery store snack aisle) for the

children to glue over the dashed lines on their pictures. For added stability, glue each picture to construction paper or poster board prior to class. In class, the children may color and cut out their pictures and then glue the pretzels in place. As the children work, talk about the animals Noah took into the ark. 14

Noah and the Ark es i s 6 : 8 – 8 : 2 2 n e G

God’s Rainbow Promise God told Noah to build a big boat and take his family, and a pair of every kind of animal, into the ark. God wanted to protect them from a great flood that would kill all the other people and animals. When the flood was over, Noah, his family and the animals came out of the ark. God put a rainbow in the sky and promised He would never again kill all living things with a flood. Every time we see a rainbow, we can remember God’s promise to take care of us. Color the picture of the boat. Then color the rainbow. Use lots of pretty colors. Cut out your picture and glue it to a sheet of construction paper. Remember, God is taking care of you, just as He took care of Noah and the animals.

Genesis 6:8–8:22 For the Teacher: Talk about ways God takes care of us. Direct the children in coloring their

rainbows. Comment on the bright colors, not on the children’s ability to color inside the lines. Help each child glue his or her picture to a sheet of construction paper. 15

Sarah’s Surprise Genes i s 1 5 :1 - 6

Glowing Stars One night Abraham was looking up into the sky. God asked him, “Can you count the stars?” Abraham laughed. It was impossible to count the stars. “Your family will be like the stars–too many to count,” God told him. Abraham was puzzled. Since his wife was old, he didn’t think she could have a baby. But Abraham knew nothing was too hard for God! Cut out the two stars. Cut slits on the dashed lines. Paint your stars with glow-in-the-dark paint. When the paint is dry, fit the stars together so they stand up. Put your stars in your room at home. When you turn off your lights each night, look at the stars and whisper, “Nothing is too hard for God!”

Genesis 15:1-6

For the Teacher: Duplicate the stars to card stock, two for each child. Provide paintbrushes and glow-in-the-dark paint. Help the children into paint smocks to protect their clothing. 16

Sarah’s Surprise Genes i s 1 8 : 9 -1 4

It’s a Baby! Game When Sarah heard she was going to have a baby boy, she laughed. She was an old woman. She thought it couldn’t be true! But Sarah found out that nothing is too hard for God. Abraham, Sarah’s husband, was 100 years old when the baby was born. Sarah knew her son was a gift from God. Color the baby items. Can you put together the secret that Sarah discovered?

For the Teacher: Give each child a set of baby items to color and cut out. If desired, you may duplicate the items to pastel paper and skip the coloring. Provide plastic sandwich bags for the children to store their verse games. 17

Joseph & the Coat of Many Colors G en e s 37 is

A Colorful Coat Joseph was a boy who loved God. God blessed Joseph and helped him. Joseph took care of his father’s sheep. Because Joseph’s father loved him very much, he gave Joseph a beautiful coat made with many colors. Follow the numbers to color Joseph’s coat. Then color the sheep and the rest of the picture.

For the Teacher: To help the children color by number, first show them a red crayon and explain

that they are to color red all spaces with a 1 in them. Repeat with the other crayons. As the children work, you may wish to discuss ways their parents show love and care for them. 18

Joseph & the Coat of Many Colors G en e s 37 is God was with Joseph. God takes care of me, too. Genesis 37

Cut, Color and Paste Picture Joseph’s brothers were jealous and unhappy because their father had given Joseph a beautiful coat. The brothers took Joseph’s coat away from him and put him in an old well. God was with Joseph and took care of him, even after Joseph’s brothers took him out of the hole and sent him far away to another country. God is taking care of you now, just as He took care of Joseph. Color the pictures of Joseph, his coat and the well and cut them out. Cut out the lettering strip, too. Glue Joseph’s coat on him. Glue the well on a sheet of construction paper and glue Joseph beside the well. Glue the lettering strip on your picture to help you remember God is with you as He was with Joseph.

For the Teacher: Talk to the children about how we know God is with us and loves us. Help them understand the many ways God takes care of us. 19

Baby Moses E xo du s 2 : 1 -10

A Secret Hiding Place Moses was a very special baby. To keep him safe from a bad king, Moses’ family hid him in a basket boat on the river. Moses’ sister, Miriam, hid in the reeds to be sure Moses was safe. A kind princess found Moses’ basket bed and took him home with her. God took care of baby Moses. God is taking care of you, too. Color the picture. Your teacher will give you a bright orange sun to glue in the sky.

For the Teacher: Before class, cut out an orange sun for each child, using the outline as a pattern. Talk to the children about how God took care of baby Moses and how God is taking care of them as well. 20

Baby Moses E xo du s 2 : 1 -10

Moses’ Family Finger Puppets God kept baby Moses safe from the bad king who wanted to kill him. Moses’ mother made a basket boat and hid him on the river. His sister, Miriam, hid in the reeds beside the river to be sure Moses was safe. A kind princess found Moses in the basket bed and took care of him. Color and cut out the finger puppets and use them to act out the story of baby Moses. Your teacher will show you how.

Finished Craft

curl and tape like this

For the Teacher: You may need to help the younger children cut out the puppets. Make one set

before class to use when you tell the story, then let the children take turns telling the story to you as review. Emphasize to the children that God is caring for them as He cared for Moses. 21

Pharaoh Says No Exodu s 1 2 – 15

A Frog Reminder Moses had a message for Pharaoh from God: “God said to let His people go to the desert so they can worship Him.” Stubborn Pharaoh said, “No!” So God turned the water in Egypt to blood. Then God sent frogs to cover the land. Then dust turned into gnats that bit everyone! Then God sent flies, and then sickness to kill all of the cattle and sheep. But Pharaoh still said, “No!” Then the Egyptian people got big boils on their legs and arms, and hail fell out of the heavens and killed people, plants and animals. Locusts swarmed in and ate the crops. Then Egypt was covered in darkness for three days. But Pharaoh still said, “No!” When the firstborn son in every Egyptian home died, Pharaoh finally said, “Go!” Pharaoh should have obeyed God immediately. All of Egypt suffered because he said no to God. This frog project will help you remember to say yes to God. Color the frog green and the tongue red. Glue a wiggle eye to the frog. Ask your teacher to help you glue the tongue in place.

Exodus 12–15 For the Teacher: Precut the dashed line on each frog’s mouth. Demonstrate to the children how

to roll and unroll the tongue to find the answer to the frog’s question. Discuss times they should say “yes” to God. 22
