Introduction What was it really like where Jesus walked? Take your students sightseeing through the town where Jesus was born, where He grew up and where He preached. Not only will they learn about the countries and customs, they will also learn about the life of our wonderful Lord. Each of the first eight chapters includes a Bible story, memory verse and numerous activities to help reinforce the truth in the lesson. An additional chapter contains miscellaneous projects that can be used anytime during the study. Teacher aids are also sprinkled throughout the book, including bulletin board ideas and discussion starters. As you work through the lessons, you may use your own judgment as to the appropriateness of the projects for your class. Everything in this book is designed to meet the 5 to 10 age range, however some activities may be more appealing to a younger group while others will more readily meet the abilities of older children. The most exciting aspect of the Instant Bible Lessons series is its flexibility. You can easily adapt these lessons to Sunday school, children's church, Wednesday night Bible study, Christian school classroom or your family's home use. And because there is a variety of reproducible ideas from which to choose, you will enjoy creating a class session that is best for your group of students whether large or small, beginning or advanced, active or studious. This book is written to add fun and uniqueness to your classes. Teaching children is exciting and rewarding - especially when you are successful in hiding God's Word and its principles in the hearts of your students. Instant Bible Lessons will help you accomplish that goal. Blessings on you as you walk in the footsteps of Jesus.
How to Use This Book Each chapter begins with a Bible story for you to read to your class, followed by discussion questions. Then, use any or all of the activities in the chapter to help drive home the message of that lesson. All of the activities are tagged with one of the icons below, so you can quickly flip through the chapter and select the projects you need. Simply cut off the teacher instructions on the pages and duplicate as desired. See page 88 for a reproducible note you can fill in and send home with families.

how many people there were in his land, so he sent out orders: "Everyone must come to where they were born to be counted." When Joseph heard the news, he was troubled. How could he travel to Bethlehem when Mary was ready to have a baby - a special baby who was the Son of God? When Mary heard the news she felt the same way. "Joseph, please don't leave now. " "I must, Mary. It's the law." It was then Mary remembered the words of the ancient prophet, Micah. "Bethlehem ... out of you will come one who will be ruler over Israel." "Joseph," she said excitedly. "Remember the prophecy of Micah? He said that the ruler over Israel will come from Bethlehem. " Joseph's eyes started to twinkle. "This is all part of God's plan, Mary. You will go with me and the Son of God will be born in Bethlehem, just as was prophesied." The trip was long and tiresome even though Joseph made sure Mary rode on the donkey. The swaying of the donkey jostled her from side to side. The 70 miles seemed endless. Mary was thankful to see the gates of the city. Joseph, too, was thankful since he was aware of Mary's discomfort. "Joseph, please find us a room," said Mary. "God's Son will be born tonight." Quickly, Joseph went from inn to inn trying to find a room. At each place the answer was the same: "Everyone is here for the census. Our rooms are full." As Joseph saw the last door shut he quickly knocked again. "Please, sir," he said when the door opened again. "My wife is about to have a child. Even a small room will do." The innkeeper shook his head. "I'm sorry. There's not even a small room. But I do have a stable behind the house that you may rest in." Joseph's heart sank as he realized that Jesus, the Son of God, would be born in a stable. But he was thankful for even a humble place for the night. When Jesus was born, Joseph found fresh hay and used it to line the cattle feeding manger. Mary wrapped torn cloths around the baby and gently laid Him on the hay. Mary and Joseph shared a smile as they listened to the baby's soft breathing mixed in with the sounds of the animals. The prophecy had come true. The one who would deliver the world had come and He had come from Bethlehem. With joy, Mary and Joseph lifted their hearts in praise to God. based on Luke 2:1-21

Memory Verse I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. Psalm 57:1
..
_Finding Refuge in a Strange Country Joseph and Mary were still in Bethlehem. Joseph found a home for them. They took Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord and make an offering to Him. One night while Joseph was sleeping, an angel came to him. "Joseph, Joseph, wake up! You are to take Mary and Jesus and flee to Egypt. You have no time to lose. Herod's men are going to kill Jesus if they find Him." Joseph was wide awake by this time and was shaking Mary. "Mary, come, we must leave now." Quietly, they moved around their darkened house. They packed the few things they would need and then crept out of their house. The darkened streets looked spooky to Mary, and she was glad Joseph was with her. They kept their steps as quiet as possible as they walked through the narrow streets, breathing a sigh of relief as they came into the open country. The journey was difficult. They crossed 75 miles of desert land before they reached Egypt, where they knew they would be safe. When they reached Egypt they were thankful- thankful the trip was over and thankful Jesus was safe. Already, the word of Herod's anger had reached Egypt. "He's having all the boy babies in Bethlehem and nearby killed," someone said. "They say he went into a fit of anger when the boy Jesus couldn't be found," said another. Mary and Joseph thanked God for the refuge He had given them in Egypt. They stayed there until the danger had passed. - based on Matthew 2:13-16
