INTRODUCTION A
hero is someone who is brave. All of the heroes in Favorite Bible Heroes jor Ages 2&3 were courageous. Some were weak-kneed at times, but our loving, watchful Heavenly Father always encouraged them and strengthened them to perform the task at hand. God calls each of us to lead in some way. It may take a heroic effort on your part to face a group of little ones each week. But you have the wonderful opportunity to reflect God's loving, patient ways to an eager and watchful audience. The crafts, games, puzzles and activities in Favorite Bible Heroesfor Ages 2&3 are designed to help you do just that. Each Bible activity contains the following: • Bible Hero name • Lesson Title highlighting a particular event or Bible story • Bible Story Reference for further reading and/or background information • Memory Verse to reinforce the story or lesson • Introduction of the Bible hero and his or her story • Activity Title & Project Description which may be read to the children • For the Teacher directions, materials needed and pre-class preparation Hints are interspersed throughout the book. These hints include helpful ideas for expanding projects, making them more cost effective, or adapting them to meet the special needs of a group. Suggestions for directed conversation appear in bold type. Safety should always be a priority. Close supervision is recommended at all times.
These crafts and activities highlight various aspects of just a few of the diverse people whose stories are portrayed in the pages of the Bible. When these heroes chose to obey God's instructions, they were victorious. If they failed to heed His commands, the outcome was disastrous. Daniel understood that God would protect him and he proved to be fearlessly loyal to God. Gideon lacked self-confidence and needed a bit of reassurance to be sure he was called to lead his people to victory. The Bible honestly reflects the feelings we all face. Yet, God gently reminds us that He is in control and that we can have victory if we trust Him and do His will. As the children learn about the lives and adventures of these Old and New Testament Bible heroes, they will learn what it means to love God, make responsible choices, and please God by obeying parents and teachers.

NOAH
FOLLOWING
Genesis 6-8
MEMORY VERSE
Noah did .. .just as God commanded. - Genesis 6:22
INTRODUCT1ON Noah was a hero who loved and obeyed God. God told Noah to build a big boat, called an "ark." Noah carefully followed God's orders on how he should build the ark. God wanted Noah to take his family and two of every animal on the ark.
Goo's DIRECTIONS
NIV
ARK CUT-OUT Noah very carefully followed God's instructions when he built the ark. The Bible does not say Noah painted the ark, but you will paint your ark so it looks like wood.
FOR THE TEACHER Use the pattern to cut a poster board ark for each child. Cut slits on the dashed lines. Help the children into paint smocks to protect their clothing. Mix reddish-brown tempera paint in shallow dishes. Cover the work area with newspapers. Let the children paint as you tell the story of Noah. Write each child's name and the memory verse on the back of his or her ark. Use the ark with the story strip on page 11. 10
NOAH
OBEYING GOD Genesis 6-8
MEMORY VERSE
Noah did . . .just as God commanded. - Genesis 6:22
JNTRODUCllON Noah carefully obeyed God in building the ark. Then he continued obeying God during the flood. Noah waited for the animals. Then Noah and his family entered the ark when God told them. They all stayed a year in the ark, and then they waited patiently until God told them to leave. Noah patiently obeyed God instead of leaving before God said it was time.
NIV
NOAH FILMSTRIP Let your teacher help you glue or tape the filmstrips together. Put Tab A through the bottom cut so the strip goes across the back of your ark, and pull the tab back out through the top cut. Slowly pull the strip through as your teacher tells you about each picture. Feel the mud. Do you think Noah was wise to wait for God's instructions before leaving the ark?
FOR THE TEACHER Duplicate and cut apart a set of film strips for each child. Help each child glue or tape Tab B to Tab C. Help everyone thread the strips into the slits in their Ark Cut-Outs (from page 10). Describe each picture on the filmstrip. Bring mud for the class to feel. (If you are really brave, they can finger-paint with it! Provide water, soap and towels.) 11

world aboard the ark. It must have taken a lot of work to care for them all. Nevertheless, Noah followed God's directions and made sure at least two of every kind of animal was included.
Into the ark came the rabbits. They came hop, hop, hop, hop. Into the ark came the elephants. They came lumber, lumber, lumber, lumber. Into the ark came the mice. They came scamper, scamper, scamper, scamper. Into the ark came the ducks. They came waddle, waddle, waddle, waddle. Into the ark came the kangaroos. They came bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce. FOR THE reACHER Read the chant and demonstrate the actions for each animal. You may wish to make ark doors out of blocks or chairs. Let the children hop, lumber, scamper, waddle and bounce between the doors as you describe each animal's walk. Let the children choose other animals to act out. Ask, How do you think Noah cared for all those animals? He must have had a lot of food and water on the ark to keep the animals fed. 12

(
READY TO GO SUTCASE Abraham had to pack up everything he owned. Instead of using a moving truck like we would, he used camels to move his family's possessions. If you were packing to move, what would you like to take with you? You may choose a sweater, a ball and an apple to take in your suitcase. Your teacher will tell you what it says on the things you choose.

JNTRODUCTlON Abraham's nephew Lot was in trouble. A king's soldiers took everything Lot had. They even took Lot away! Someone ran to tell Abraham what had happened. Abraham went after the king and his soldiers. God helped Abraham defeat them. Lot and his family were safe again.
I CAN }f8..P 'WORKSHEET Did you know you can help others, just like Abraham? When your mommy asks for your help you can obey and do what she asks. Ask your teacher to repeat the memory verse. Look at your worksheet. It looks like some people need help. Can you help them?
FOR THE TCACHER Duplicate a worksheet for each child. Ask, Can you help the boy pick up his books? Have each child draw a line from the bookcase to the book. Continue with the other pictures asking, Can you help the girl set the table? Can you help the daddy rake the leaves? Allow the children to color the pictures. 16

FOR THE TEACHER Duplicate and cut out two stars for each child. Assist each child in gluing a chenille stem between two stars.
