Introduction No one is too young to begin learning about God and His great power and love. Not only can young children learn, they can be examples for other believers. Paul says in 1 Timothy 4: 12: "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity." God sees our hearts, not our ages.

Throughout the Bible there are numerous examples of children and young people making a difference.

The Lord Himself chose to come to earth as a baby. What better way to teach young children about God than to use other children as examples! The crafts, games, puzzles, and activities in Favorite Bible Children are designed to let children know that they can be instruments of God.

You will find that the memory verses are often repeated within each Bible child section to allow several opportunities for you to reinforce that Scripture. To help keep activity costs to a minimum, send home the reproducible Note to Parents on page 9 to request help in gathering supplies.

And remember: all patterns may be duplicated. You only need to buy one book for your entire class!

What to Do Distribute this page to each child. After reviewing the story, have the children color the picture.

What to Say Isaac loved God. Isaac knew that his father loved God. They both wanted to do whatever God asked of them. When God asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, they didn't question God. They were willing to obey, no matter what. God saw how much they honored and loved Him, so He let them worship Him without having to sacrifice Isaac. Discuss how obeying God shows that we love Him. We might not always like what He asks us to do, but we are still to obey. Have you ever been asked to do something you really don't want to do? Did you do it?

What to Do Gather the children in a circle. Ask, "How many of you have gone on a hike or a walk with someone? Did you bring anything special on your walk?" Explain that some people who go on hikes bring things to help them such as a walking stick, rope, water, their lunch, etc. Pretend you are all going on a hike up a mountain. The first person should say, "I'm going to climb the mountain and I'm going to bring ...." then name something to bring. The next person should say, "I'm going to climb the mountain and I'm going to bring [repeat the first person's item] and [add another item]." Keep playing until everyone has had a chance to say what they would bring while climbing the mountain. You may need to help the children remember the other items or think of their own.

What to Say Isaac loved his father very much. He was excited about the hike up the mountain that they were going to take. They both prepared for it and brought along all of the items that they knew they would need. The one thing that Isaac noticed they didn't bring was their sacrifice. He didn't know that God was going to miraculously supply them with a ram while they were on the mountain. God loved both Isaac and Abraham very much.

What to Do Cut out a ram face for each child. Give each child a lunch-size paper sack. Have the students crunch old newspapers into a ball. Show how to put the ball into the paper sack, then fit a rubber band around the sack making the head. Allow the children to color the ram face and glue it to the head with a glue stick.

What to Say Isaac and Abraham loved the Lord very much. They wanted to worship Him. They knew they needed a sacrifice for their offering. Abraham was willing to give up Isaac as the Lord had asked him to. Seeing how much they loved Him, the Lord provided a ram in the thicket for the sacrifice. Abraham and Isaac had even more reason to worship God now! What did God provide for Abraham and Isaac? Do you think they were surprised to see the ram?

Before class, cut scraps of construction paper into 1"x 2" strips. Give the children a copy of this page. Show the children how to build an altar on their picture by using a glue stick to attach the construction paper strips between Abraham and Isaac. It would be helpful to complete a picture and build an altar as an example for the children to see.

What to Say Isaac loved the Lord. He was excited that his father, Abraham, asked him to go with him to the mountains to build an altar to worship God. He knew they were to bring a sacrifice to God to worship Him. He wondered what the offering would be. When he found out that he would be the offering, he knew there must be a reason for it because he loved God so much. The Lord saw how much Isaac and Abraham loved him. He gave them a ram to sacrifice instead of Isaac. What are some of the things God has asked us to do that we should obey?

What to Do Before class, make a stick puppet out of the ram below by coloring and cutting out the figure, then gluing it onto a craft stick. Gather the children in a seated circle and show them the ram puppet. Tell them to hide their eyes so they can't see anything. While they are doing this, hide the puppet.

After the puppet is hidden, have the children uncover their eyes and instruct them to find the ram. The one who finds it is to hold it up and say, ''The Lord will provide!" Let the child who finds the ram help the teacher hide it for the next round of play.

What to Say God gave Abraham and Isaac the ram in the thicket because they loved Him and He loved them. God loves each of us. He provides for us.

When we love and obey God, He blesses us.

What to Say Abraham was ready to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, because he wanted to obey God. He loved God. Isaac also wanted to obey God. Instead of Abraham giving up Isaac, God gave them a ram to sacrifice. God saw that Abraham and Isaac loved Him. He provided for them. Discuss how God was faithful to provide a sacrifice for Abraham and Isaac. Do you think Abraham and Isaac were surprised to find the ram in the weeds? Did they know it was from God?

What to Say Miriam wanted to be a good big sister because she loved her baby brother so much. She did not want Pharaoh's men to find him because they wanted to kill all of the baby boys. She helped her mother hide him for as long as they could. When they could hide him no longer, Miriam's mother placed him in a basket in the river. She knew God would protect the baby. Do any of you have younger brothers or sisters?

Give each child a copy of this page and a cupcake liner and let them glue it on to the river with a glue stick. Allow the children to color the rest of the picture. Give each child an unshelled peanut. Have them make a face on the end of the peanut with a fine-tip marker and put the peanut in the cupcake liner.

What to Say Miriam was excited to have a new baby brother. But her excitement soon turned to fear as she knew that the Pharaoh wanted all of the baby boys killed. She wanted to help save her little brother. She prayed that the Lord would protect him as she watched him float down the river.

God not only protected him but allowed for his own mother to become his caregiver after the Pharaoh's daughter found him. What do you think Miriam was thinking as she watched her baby brother float down the river in his basket?

What to Do Demonstrate this fun finger play to help the children remember the story of how Moses was saved with the help of his big sister, Miriam.

Have the children perform it with you. Give each child a copy to take home with them.

What to Say Miriam had an important part in Moses' life. It was she who watched the baby until he was found by Pharaoh's daughter. She was the one who told the princess that her mother could help care for the baby. God was able to use Miriam to protect this special baby who would one day be a great leader for God's people.
