Introduction ■ ● ■
Do your toddlers know Jesus as a real person? Knowing that Jesus is real and
seeing firsthand the wonderful things He did to help others is a first step in growing in the Lord. After toddlers participate in the activities in I Believe in Jesus, they will begin to understand the important Christian values and how they can be used in everyday life. Learning that Jesus helped others with His miracles helps bring Jesus to life! Each of the first eight chapters includes a Bible story, memory verse, and a variety of activities to help reinforce the truth in the lesson. An additional chapter contains miscellaneous projects that can be used anytime throughout the study or at the end to review the lessons. The most exciting aspect of Instant Bible Lessons for Toddlers, which includes My Amazing God, Jesus Teaches Me, I Can Help God, and I Believe in Jesus, is its flexibility. You can easily adapt these lessons to a Sunday school hour, a children’s church service, a Wednesday night Bible study or family home use. And, because there is a variety of reproducible ideas from which to choose (see below), you will enjoy creating a class session that is best for your group of students, whether large or small, beginning or advanced, active or studious. The intriguing topics will keep your kids coming back for more, week after week. With these lessons, toddlers will learn that Jesus is real, and will begin to believe in Him.
* How to Use This Book *
Each chapter begins with a Bible story which you may read to your class in one of two levels, followed by discussion questions. Following each story page is a story visual for you to make and use as you tell the story. Every story chapter also includes a bulletin board poster with the memory verse and suggestions for using the poster as an activity. All the activities are tagged with one of the icons below so you can quickly flip through the chapter and select the projects you need. Simply cut off the teacher instructions on the pages and duplicate!

Jesus Turns Water into Wine Memory Verse
His disciples put their faith in him. – John 2:11
Story to Share * *
2’s and 3’s
ªª
Jesus and his disciples were at a wedding. Jesus’ mother was there, too. Jesus’ mother said, “They have no more wine.” Jesus helped the people so they would not be embarrassed. When they had filled the jars with water, Jesus said, “Draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” The servants took some of the water from the jars. The master of the banquet tasted it and said, “Everyone brings out the best wine first. But, you have saved the best until now.” We believe in Jesus because he helped people at a wedding with a miracle. He turned plain water into wine.

ª
Jesus and his mother, along with Jesus’ helpers, were at a wedding. “Oh, no,” Jesus’ mother said. “The wine is all gone.” Jesus told servants to fill the jars with water. Then Jesus took some water out of a jar. “Take this to the master and have him taste it.” The master was pleased, and said, “The wedding family has saved the best wine until last!” We believe in Jesus because he helped people with a miracle. He turned water into wine.
Based on John 2:1-11
Questions for Discussion
1. What did Jesus tell the servants to put in the big jars? Water. 2. What happened to the water after it was put into the big jars? It changed into wine.

• duplicated page, six copies on white paper, plus 3 copies on red paper • tape • scissors • poster on page 10
What to Do
1. Before class, cut out the jars from the nine duplicated pattern pages. Cut the red copies on the fold line to make 6 red jars. Fold the remaining six copies in half on the fold line. Tape a red jar inside each of the six lightercolored jars. 2. To tell the story, show the story poster of Jesus at the wedding. Point to Jesus while you tell the parts up to ‘filling the jars.’ 3. Count and show the six jars as you tell about Jesus having the servants fill six jars with water. Then, open each of the six jars to show the red “wine.”

4. For a story review, let the children touch the jars and help you
count to six. Optional: You may duplicate the pattern page to six lighter colors of paper, and color the inside of each one red or purple, rather than taping a red “jar” inside each. 8

how you want to use the poster (see ideas below) enlarge, reduce, or simply copy page 10 to fit your bulletin board space. 2. To use the poster as an in-class activity, provide red or purple glitter glue sticks. Let children ‘paint’ the six jars with the glitter glue.
• Colored chalks; cotton swabs and water colors; sticker dots to outline the posters, cereal pieces to fill in the picture. • Eye dropper and colored water (food coloring) to drop onto poster. • Punch holes along edge of posters and provide lengths of plastic lacing for toddlers to lace through holes in poster. • Use glue and yarn lengths to outline pictures or frame the poster, colored sugars and glue. Spread glue on parts of the poster, and sprinkle on colored sugars for a sandlike painting.

What to Do
1. Learn the words to the “Jesus Helped Friends” song. 2. Sing the song to the tune of “Ten Little Indians” with the children. 3. Give each child a pattern page. 4. Have children use a crayon to trace the numbers on the jars. Help the children count to six. 5. With younger toddlers, you may want to help them trace the numbers on the jars with their fingers while you help them count to six.
Toddler Tip:
Young children learn through repetition. Do the rhymes and songs more than once when time allows. Use favorite ones at the end for a fun lesson review.

Mommy took a cup from the cabinet and set it on the table. “Let’s put you in your chair so that you can drink your juice while I am putting away the dishes,” she said. Mommy put Nick in his chair. She opened the refrigerator and took out the juice carton. “Oh, no,” Mommy said. “We are out of juice.” She turned the carton upside down, and a few drops spilled onto the floor. “I’ll call Daddy and ask him to bring us some of your favorite grape juice when he comes home from work,” said Mommy. “You can have a drink of water for now.” Nick sipped on his water while Mommy put away the dishes from the dishwasher. “Would you like to hear a Bible story about water?” Mommy asked. Nick nodded his head. “Jesus and his mommy, and some of Jesus’ helpers were at a wedding. They were out of wine, but Jesus turned the water into wine.” Just then, Daddy came home. “I brought Nick’s favorite grape juice,” he said. Nick was happy. He liked the Bible story Mommy told, and he really liked the grape juice.

Jesus Calms a Storm Memory Verse
Even the winds and the waves obey him. – Matthew 8:27
Story to Share * *
2’s and 3’s
ªª
Jesus and his helpers got into a boat to cross the lake. Suddenly, a big storm came. Jesus’ helpers were afraid. But, Jesus was sound asleep. His followers said, “Save us Jesus! We’re going to drown! The wind is blowing. The waves from the lake are coming up into our boat. Help us!” “Why are you so afraid?” Jesus asked. “Where is your faith?” Jesus got up. He said to the winds and waves, “STOP!” There was no more storm. We believe in Jesus because he helped his friends by making a storm stop.

Jesus and his helpers were in a boat on the lake. Jesus was asleep. Suddenly a big storm came over the lake. The winds blew, wooooo, woooo. The waves came up over the sides of the boat, splash, splash. Jesus’ helpers were afraid. “Wake up!” they said to Jesus. “Help us! The storm is going to make our boat sink. Help us!” “Why are you so afraid?” Jesus asked. “You should have faith to trust me.” Jesus stood up and said to the storm, “STOP!” The winds stopped. The waves stopped. Jesus’ helpers said, “Even the winds and waves obey Jesus.” We believe in Jesus because he helped his friends by making a storm stop.
