Edited and with an introduction by Rose Issa. Foreword by John Berger.
Published to accompany a major exhibition at the Martin Gropius Bau Museum in Berlin (“Taswir: Pictorial Mappings of Modernity & Islam”; 4th November 2009-18th January 2010), this publication spans the 50-year career of Maliheh Afnan – one of the most important contemporary artists from the Middle East. Afnan was born in Palestine to Persian parents and has lived and worked in Lebanon, Kuwait, Washington DC, Paris and London. Her themes of displacement and exile are rendered in a spare, discreet style that has earned Afnan an international following.
