HELLO Whether you are young, or just young at heart, we have a whole season of family friendly shows which we can’t wait to share with you. We’ll be here to help you get back into the swing of things after the summer holidays with The Night Pirates, a Rose co-production with Nick Brooke Ltd, which is adapted from the best-selling children’s book. We're very excited to bring you our first Rose Production for little ones, so we invite you, and your young pirates to join us for some swashbuckling fun! We’re already getting in the Christmas spirit with this year’s festive extravaganza, Alice in Winterland, which follows on from our most successful Christmas show ever last year, The Wind in the Willows. Make sure you book early to avoid missing out on this spectacular adventure… In August, the Rose Youth Theatre and Rose Players will present Great Expectations, the first Rose community show since 2013, an adaptation of Dickens’ celebrated novel. An imaginary creature is brought to life in The Hunting of the Snark for October half term, fresh from the West End.

Looking ahead to 2018, puppets and music will fill the auditorium with Noggin the Nog and we invite you to join us on a journey of adventure. Another Roald Dahl classic comes to us for Easter, George’s Marvellous Medicine. A Rose co-production with Curve, Leicester follows on from the success of previous Easter hits, The Witches and The Twits. See how George takes revenge on his slug and bug eating grandmother. We also have a full programme of world class drama, which this season includes Tom Stoppard's witty comedy The Real Thing and Stevenson's classic thriller Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde. To see our drama highlights, visit pages 16 & 17. We look forward to welcoming you to the Rose including the Rose Café, which provides light bites and a wide selection of drinks, all with free wi-fi and regular events throughout the year. With so much on offer, we look forward to welcoming you to the Rose soon.

We'll also be travelling the world from the comfort of our seats with Around the World in 80 Days at the end of October. Robert O’Dowd Chief Executive

Most grandmothers are lovely, kind, helpful old ladies. Not George’s Grandmother. George’s Grandmother likes to gobble up slugs and bugs, and is always telling George what to do. But one day, when his parents leave him alone with the grizzly old grunion, George takes his chance and sets about creating a brand new medicine to cure her of her cruelty. Little does he know that his perilous potion will be the start of a rather marvellous adventure… Following the success of The Twits and The Witches, Rose Theatre Kingston's magnificent new co-production with Curve, Leicester promises to be yet another hugely imaginative and entertaining stage adaptation, bursting with growing grannies, feathery farm animals and bags of frothbuggling family fun. DRAMA HIGHLIGHTS

STRICTLY MURDER

FOR LOVE OR MONEY

Tue 26 – Sat 30 Sep

Tue 31 Oct – Sat 4 Nov

Provence. April 1939. English couple, Peter and Suzy, are living in idyllic isolation; far, it seems, from the rumblings of the oncoming war. Their peace is suddenly shattered by a stranger from Peter's past who unearths secrets from a buried and hidden life, which throws Suzy's world into turmoil. In a world where the Third Reich is emerging as a dangerous regime, deceit, lies and subterfuge make this fast paced thriller a dark and nail-biting rollercoaster.

Northern Broadsides is back with a new adaptation of Lesage’s Turcaret. In a small town in Yorkshire, a beautiful widow is being wooed by two suitors. Fresh from the City and with endless money to dispose of, the older one showers her with gifts – which the younger wants to put to better use. A love triangle, then; a tale of rivalry and avarice. But money’s a slippery commodity and all is not quite as it seems. Throw in a bailiff, a drunkard, a vamp, a second-hand clothes dealer and two upwardly mobile servants, and the complications multiply.

RULES FOR LIVING Tue 7 – Sat 18 Nov Everyone creates their own rules for living. But what happens when an extended family gathers for a traditional Christmas dinner, and each of them rigidly follows those rules? Christmas day will never be the same again. As the drinks flow and the obligatory games intensify, family resentments rise and relationships are pulled apart with a bang. A Rose co-production with English Touring Theatre and Royal & Derngate, Northampton.

DR JEKYLL & MR HYDE

CURTAINS

Fri 9 – Sat 17 Feb

Ida’s family is throwing her a tea party for her eighty-sixth birthday. Their efforts to be cheerful and make the event a success verge on the desperate. Ida is racked with pain and feels she has lived too long. As the party comes to an end, the family disperse leaving Ida's oldest daughter remembering the pact she made with her not to let her suffer into old age… A hilariously painful and moving picture of a family in turmoil, written by Stephen Bill and directed by Lindsay Posner, former Associate Director at the Royal Court.

Phil Daniels (Les Miserables, This House, EastEnders) stars as the eponymous character in the gripping tale of Dr Jekyll and his alterego Mr Hyde, directed by Stephen Unwin and adapted by David Edgar. During one of his audacious experiments trying to separate good from evil in human nature, the kind and gifted Dr Jekyll inadvertently unleashes an alternate personality of pure evil… the mysterious Mr Hyde.
