Enjoy great savings at the Rose and its partner organisations for only £45 Drama has always been a huge part of Italian life. The street is a stage in Italy; it presents the opportunity to create a spectacle at any given moment. At Carluccio’s, this spirited approach makes us who we are. We’re noisy about food. We taste it, we try it, we argue about it until it’s exactly right. It’s the Italian way – and it’s how we’ve worked since 1991. For a taste of good food and drama pop into one of our Caffès for a warm Italian welcome.

When Aubrey Tanqueray marries for the second time, he knows that his new wife, Paula, is a ‘woman with a past’. But he has no idea how that past will catch up with him in the end. More accessible than Ibsen, more probing than Oscar Wilde, Pinero’s The Second Mrs Tanqueray (1893) is one of the masterpieces of the Victorian theatre: sexy, dramatic, funny and very moving. Pinero was the most popular and accessible playwright of his time. His many plays include The Schoolmistress, The Magistrate, Dandy Dick and Trelawny of the ‘Wells’. This major revival is directed by Stephen Unwin, whose productions at the Rose include The Winslow Boy, Hay Fever, The Importance of Being Earnest and The Lady from the Sea.

SPRINKLED WITH MAGIC Manchester Evening News
Poor Cinderella wants to go to the ball. Who can help her? Charles Way’s enchanting adaptation is perfect family entertainment, with something for everyone: a fairy godmother, wicked step-sisters, a handsome prince, a glass slipper and, wonderfully, a struggling court composer called Mozart. Cinderella is directed by Rachel Kavanaugh, former Artistic Director of Birmingham Repertory Theatre, where her productions of His Dark Materials, Peter Pan and The Wizard of Oz were hugely popular. Bring the whole family to see the most magical fairy tale of them all. “Like all good theatre it works on many levels and is elastic enough to mean different things to different parts of the audience, old and young, parent and child” Lyn Gardner, The Guardian

Wildly witty and inventive, Mort The Musical is based on Terry Pratchett’s classic Discworld novel. His acclaimed book is brought to life in this musical fantasy: sorcery, magic, comedy and romance in one fabulous evening. Mort The Musical tells the story of an awkward, young man who receives an offer he can’t refuse – free room, free board, and all for a business that will never be short of customers. Being Death’s apprentice, however, comes with great responsibilities. Death is a difficult boss to work for and, understandably, Mort begins to make mistakes. Coupled with the fact he’s fallen in love with a princess who should be dead, will Mort regret his unique career choice? Mort The Musical is directed by Luke Sheppard (Associate Director of the multi-award winning Matilda) and presented by the country’s national music theatre company for young people. A dead funny treat for all ages.

ENGLISH, TOURING AND THEATRE ARE THREE WONDERFUL WORDS. PUT TOGETHER THEY ARE MORE WONDERFUL STILL
What happened on the night the young war hero, Maurice Tabret, died at home in his bed? His doctor says he died from natural causes, but his nurse points a finger of suspicion at his beautiful wife, Stella... W. Somerset Maugham, the enduringly popular playwright and novelist, puts a twist on the classic murder mystery. Part thriller, part love story, this tense and graceful play is a fascinating exploration of love, devotion and family. English Touring Theatre was founded in 1993 by Stephen Unwin, the Rose’s Artistic Director. The Rose’s opening production was English Touring Theatre’s Uncle Vanya, directed by Peter Hall.
