IN OUR AMAZING AUDITORIUM, YOU DON’T JUST WATCH A SHOW, YOU’RE PART OF IT... Drama has always been a huge part of Italian life. The street is a stage in Italy; it presents the opportunity to create a spectacle at any given moment. At Carluccio’s, this spirited approach makes us who we are. We’re noisy about food. We taste it, we try it, we argue about it until it’s exactly right. It’s the Italian way – and it’s how we’ve worked since 1991. For a taste of good food and drama pop into one of our Caffès for a warm Italian welcome.

WELCOME Michael Frayn is one of Britain’s greatest playwrights and we’re thrilled to be staging a major revival of his razor-sharp comedy Here. This follows Joely Richardson in Ibsen’s The Lady from the Sea and is the fifteenth Rose Theatre Production since we opened four years ago.
The Spring is full of other delights too, including the first visit of Bristol’s Tobacco Factory with The Cherry Orchard, Stephen’s own production of The Conquest of the South Pole from the Arcola Theatre in East London and the return of Propeller with Henry V and The Winter’s Tale. We’re also presenting a wide range of work for children - The Snail and the Whale, Tiddler and Other Terrific Tales and Let Me In, a short season of work for young people with learning difficulties - as well as the amazing Ring Round The World Olympic Opera Project. We’re hosting Kingston’s very own International Youth Arts Festival in July and last, but by no means least, we will be showing live coverage of the London 2012 Olympics at the Rose. Please check our website for updates.

WILDLY PASSIONATE AND SURPRISINGLY VICIOUS… AS QUICKSILVER AS THE SEA ITSELF, FULL OF RIPTIDES, SWELLS AND UNDERCURRENTS. Lyn Gardner, The Guardian on The Lady From The Sea
Award-winning film and television actress Joely Richardson makes a welcome return to the London stage for this major revival of Ibsen’s rarely seen masterpiece. This new production is directed by the Rose’s Artistic Director Stephen Unwin, who has been widely hailed for his five productions of Ibsen, including an awardwinning Hedda Gabler at the Donmar. Ellida is married to Dr Wangel, and lives with him and his two daughters. But she feels claustrophobic and restless. Ten years ago she promised herself to another man. On a late summer’s day he comes to claim her. “Stephen Unwin is the finest director of Ibsen in Britain” The Guardian

MICHAEL FRAYN IS ‘ONE OF THE GREAT TALENTS OF THE LAST 50 YEARS’ The Guardian
Rarely seen on stage, Here is a touching and brilliant razor-sharp comedy about a young couple facing the challenge of organising their new apartment - and their new relationship. Here is where everything happens. Here and now – in the space around us that we can see and touch. For Phil and Cath, in this one small studio flat, as they begin to construct their life together. For them the whole past history of the universe has led up to this moment, and its whole future history will be determined by what they decide together. Here. Now. But how to decide anything, when the other person keeps disagreeing? And when the woman downstairs keeps dumping the left-over remains of her own life on you...?

Here will be performed on a new stage, built out into the auditorium bringing the intimacy of Here even closer to the audience.

‘How I long to sail,’ said the tiny snail… Tall Stories (creators of The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom stage shows) are proud to present their latest collaboration with Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. A tiny snail longs to see the world, so she hitches a lift on the tail of a huge humpback whale. Together they go on an amazing journey, experiencing sharks and penguins, icebergs and volcanoes. The little snail is amazed by it all but starts feeling very small in the vastness of the world.
This is a magical collection of Julia Donaldson’s most popular titles including Tiddler, The Smartest Giant in Town, A Squash and a Squeeze and Monkey Puzzle brought to the stage spectacularly by the team that brought you Aesop’s Fables, Stick Man and Private Peaceful. Under sea, over land, on the farm and in the jungle, these tales are woven together with live music, songs, puppets and a host of colourful characters who will delight.
Then disaster strikes – the whale becomes beached in a bay. Can the tiny snail save the day?
An absolute treat for everyone aged 3 and upwards.

Rose Theatre Productions lie at the heart of what the Rose is all about. Since opening in January 2008, we have presented fourteen productions, and brought to Kingston some of Britain’s greatest actors and actresses. Without Arts Council funding, however, we rely on the generous philanthropic support of hundreds of individuals. Join the Rose Family and help us stage more productions of a richer and wider range of plays. We need to raise £250,000 a year to support our productions. Every penny you give will be used on stage. Stephen Artistic Director 08444 821Unwin, 556 rosetheatrekingston.org
IT IS THE THEATRE THAT I HAVE DREAMED OF ALL MY LIFE; INTIMATE YET EPIC, BOLD AND FRIENDLY, CLASSIC BUT ENTIRELY MODERN Sir Peter Hall, Director Emeritus
If you would like to join the Friends scheme or make a donation, please visit rosetheatrekingston.org or ask at Box office for details. If you would like a bespoke individual package that includes a closer insight into the creation of work at the Rose and the people involved, please email traceys@rosetheatrekingston.org 21

VISIT THE NEW VOLUNTEER ROSE WEBSITE
The Rose receives invaluable support from a large dedicated team of volunteers, without whom we would not be able to operate. If you feel you could offer four or more hours of your time every month on a long term basis, then we would love to hear from you. Helping out at the Rose is enormous fun and it’s a fantastic way to meet people and make new friends. Occasionally, it’s challenging but it’s also an opportunity to share your skills with others and develop new ones. We don’t require any specific qualifications and the offer is open to people of all ages and abilities. Our recruitment process is ongoing and the latest information about roles and how to apply can be found at rosetheatrekingston.org or email volunteer@rosetheatrekingston.org
The Rose is delighted to launch its brand new website, created with the support of Arts Council England. With a host of new functions, including pick your own seat, you now have the opportunity to claim discounts and offers as well as purchase full price tickets. You can watch trailers on the Rose channel and contribute your own comments with regular blogs from Stephen Unwin and other leading artists. To make your visit to the Rose even easier, you can pre-pay for programmes, icecreams and other merchandise, including theatre vouchers, in our brand new online shop. It’s the perfect place to browse when present-hunting. We would like thank those who have already visited the site and generously made a donation to Rose Theatre Productions. Have a look today at rosetheatrekingston.org and we would be delighted to hear what you think of it.
