Industrial Heritage Durham quilting is a traditional craft passed down through generations of women in Northeast England pit villages. Following the brief title ‘Industrial Heritage’ research was conducted into this intricate art form by visiting museums and taking part in a quilting sessions, coming across century old quilts originating from nearby surrounding villages.

Here are some sketches of existing garments and a few designs. The striking and complex construction of Tisja Damen’s pieces appears to resemble piecing together a quilt. Bum rolls and corsetry have also been a focus of this research work, as from a practical level the depth and rigidity of quilting could be compatible with these types of garment construction.

Fashion Trend Research Technology is increasingly important in today’s everyday living. With fashion being an incredibly fast paced industry, and worries that ‘Fast Fashion’ is restricting creativity for designers, the use of technology within garments could be a solution. This collection combines florescent fabrics and shimmering satins with the use of LED’S, electric circuit and fibre optics. ‘Light Years’ will be at the forefront of the cohesion between fashion and technology. It might not be long until this fashion takes hold and it is commonplace to be physically wearing this technology on our bodies, transporting the human form unto the digital age.
