Career Development Workshop The Centre for Excellence in Leadership's Career Development Service is offering career development workshops for leaders and managers at all levels and from all parts of the learning and skills sector. These one-day workshops are specially designed and highly participative, and run by experienced career coaches and facilitators. Dates and Venues 13th March 2008

Outcomes By the end of the workshop you will have • • • • •
Explored your values, skills, achievements and leadership potential Reflected who you are and where you want to be Identified tangible and realistic career goals Clarified the role of self and others in your career progression Understood barriers to career development and identified practical strategies to deal with them
The workshop will provide a supportive and creative group setting in which to discuss your career options, and an opportunity to share a range of resources, ideas and information as well as invaluable networking. Cost £210 p.p. plus VAT as appropriate, to include materials, lunch refreshments and access to the VLE. Subsidies Subsidised places may be available for participants from work-based and adult and community learning providers, and specialist independent colleges. They will also be considered for participants who are disabled or from black and minority ethnic groups. Career Development Workshop Job Search: Developing Effective Search and Application Skills When planning a career transition, it is vital to approach the job market with understanding and confidence. Through the ‘Job Search’ workshop, participants are offered a powerful insight into job search skills and shown how to create job applications with maximum impact. This oneday workshop for leaders and managers at all levels and from all parts of the learning and skills sector will be highly participative, and run by an experienced career coach and facilitator. By the end of the workshop you will have had an opportunity to: • • • • • • • • •
gain insights into the job search process to maximise your success find out how and where to look for jobs understand what a selector is looking for explore how to analyse an advert and tailor your applications identify how to create job applications with impact look at how to put together a powerful CV prepare to maximise your success at interviews learn how to successfully get through an assessment centre understand how to learn from the selection process and keep motivated

Career Development Service Work-Life Balance: Developing and Maintaining a Workable Solution Date and Location: To be confirmed Work to live or live to work – that is the question. The outcome is undoubtedly a complex combination of personal pressures and external work demands at any point in time. Through this workshop participants can harness personal choice to plan and execute their most effective work-life balance solution. By the end of the workshop you will have had an opportunity to: • • • •
consider what effective work life balance means to you summarise your current state of work life balance recognise what both helps and hinders your state of balance identify the advantages of developing/maintaining an effective work life balance, including the link to effective change and risk management • describe and plan what positive steps can be taken to develop your current scenario Cost: £210 p.p. plus VAT as appropriate, to include materials, lunch refreshments and access to the VLE.
