Michael’s Adventure by Rosie Venner Inspired by Anthony and Bunny Venner, by Michael Venner
My mum told me she feels a bit sad, and that makes me feel quite bad. I think she might be a bit lonely, so making her smile is up to me.
I have to think of ways to make her happy, but I better be quick and snappy!
I know! She needs to meet a new friend. that’s what would get her on the mend!
The milkman comes to the door and I ask him for help. ‘Please can you give me a ride to the woods? I ask. He lets out a yelp.
I tell him ‘I need to go exploring and have some fun, but also to find some friends to cheer up my mum.’
He said ‘I’ll take you, but I’m not going in there. There are all sorts of creatures that will give you a scare.’

I look through the trees and they go on and on! Who knows what I could come upon? I enter the forest and off I go.
Then the creatures begin to show.
‘What’s that through the trees, black and orange and stripy? Is it a tiger? That’s not very likely!’
‘Hello!’ Said the tiger. ‘Are you okay? If you are lost I will help you find your way.’ ‘I’m not lost’, I said. ‘I’m exploring for fun, and looking for some friends to cheer up my mum.’
Then the tiger said ‘Let me help you. It will be much easier with both us two.’
So we set off into the trees, deeper and deeper. The further we went it got much creepier.
‘Tiger?’ I asked. ‘What’s that over there?’ ‘Oh no!’ she replied, ‘It’s a big, grumpy...
grizzly bear!’
He does not look happy, but we better be brave.’ So I took a deep breath, and gave him a wave. The bear slowly got up from the floor, and waved back with his giant floppy paw.
‘Hello!’ said the bear. ‘What are you up to? If you are stuck, you must let me help you!’
‘We’re not stuck’ I said. ‘We’re exploring for fun, and looking for some friends to cheer up my mum.’ ‘Let me lend a paw,’ said the bear. ‘After all, that is what friends are for!’ ‘What’s that?’ I asked.
‘It’s a badger!’ said the bear. ‘Shall we say hello? He could be very nice and help us you know!’
‘Come over here!’ said the badger, ‘I’d like to meet you! Please tell me, where are you going to?’
‘You can come with us!’ I said. ‘We’re exploring for fun, and looking for some friends to cheer up my mum.’ The badger smiled. ‘Now you have three friends, so go and find her. We will have a party just to surprise her!’
So I ran off home and dragged her from bed. ‘Come with me! I have something to show you!’ I said.
The woods aren’t as scary with mum by my side, and this time I know there’s no reason to hide.
They had made a picnic for my Mum next to the lake, So we all laughed and danced and ate lots of yummy cake. We got to the river and found that the bear, the tiger and badger were all still there.
My mum is so happy now she has lots of new friends. So now my story has come to an end.
The End
