EXCELLENCE STARTS HERE

ROSS MONTESSORI CHARTER SCHOOL The Montessori philosophy was introduced to the Roaring Fork Valley in 1981 when Mark and Kathryn Ross founded Mount Sopris Montessori Preschool for ages two to six. Ross Montessori Charter School, named for the late Mark Ross, honors Mark and Kathryn’s vision through the worldclass Montessori education provided to families of all socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds in this community.

WHY MONTESSORI? WHY CHARTER? Montessori education follows the child. Teachers create an individualized, self-paced work plan for the students to follow as they master skills and concepts. Students are encouraged to explore and discover on their own. Through this students achieve academic progress as well as physical, social, emotional, and spiritual growth. Through a Montessori education, a child’s innate joy of learning is nurtured and encouraged. Working together, the child, their family, and teacher create a cohesive environment to celebrate discovery and cherish learning. Charter schools are unique public schools that are allowed the freedom to be more innovative while being held accountable for advancing student achievement. Because they are public schools, they are: • open to all children; • do not charge tuition; and • do not have special entrance requirements. Charter schools were created to help improve our nation’s public school system and offer parents another public school option to better meet their child’s specific needs. All children should have the opportunity to achieve at a high level, and public charter schools are meeting that need: • Charter schools are some of the top-performing schools in the country. • Charter schools are closing the achievement gap. They are raising the bar of what’s possible—and what should be expected—in public education. • A higher percentage of charter students are accepted into a college or university. WHY ROSS? Ross Montessori Charter School (RMS) provides an environment of academic excellence and positive discipline through Montessori teaching methods. RMS’s high student achievement is creating compassionate, lifelong learners who will have a positive impact on the world. RMS features a Montessori education for children from kindergarten through eighth grade. It is a one-of-a-kind in the Roaring Fork Valley. In its tenth year, RMS is planning for a strong future in this community through continued growth in academic and specialized programming plus a new campus to sustain the school for generations.

EXCELLENCE Ross scored higher than local school districts & statewide scores in over 94% of categories in the TCAP standardized test in 2014. Ross is in the top 30% of schools in Colorado based upon student achievement measured by TCAP.

Annual Fund At RMS, five percent of the annual budget comes directly from donations from parents, grandparents and friends. We believe in your dedication to Ross, therefore we offer programs that cannot be met through state funding alone. Your support makes a Montessori education possible for families in the Roaring Fork Valley communities. The Annual Fund is our yearly appeal for contributions that support the educational environment at RMS. The Annual Fund addresses today’s needs, directly supports our educational program, and helps close the gap between what is provided by state funding and the amount it costs to run the school at an improved level. It helps fuel program enhancements and campus-specific initiatives. • Classroom assistants • Facilities and transportation • Online GPS bus tracker • Tuition and lunch support for families who need it • Technology in the classrooms
