Impressions An impression is about impact. To my perception, it is how energy is propagated when the interaction of two or more substantiate entities occur and the latter registers it. The ripples on a water horizon, imprints left in wet concrete, block prints, tire marks on a road less travelled, words carved on stones, coffee stains and the list could never end. It is also in the experiences we have that weave our memories. Thus, calling it equal parts tangible and intangible fits right. This intrinsic character of impression, when associated with architectural space, results in limitless potential. The key lies in the nuances. The promise of utilising, exploring the lengths of this potential and the impact it leaves on the user simultaneously on the nature of the space, draws me in. I find myself intrigued by the epistemology of this vast subject and how this impacts my viewpoint of space, and hope to be able to help others peek into their favoured viewpoints as well. The power it gives to influence and impress is thrilling. I am a fourth-year student who wishes to learn more and gather experience in hands-on designing work in the industry. Following spreads display my work. Through these, I wish to portray my understanding of creating and conditioning built spaces that are universally accessible such that they could help suitcase a memory of the place they visit and carry it far. I sincerely hope to put a good impression.

LA RELANCE
French Renaissance Cultural Center | VI sem STUDIO
Cultural centers are a prime way to bring communities together in their learning to promote culture and art. They are a product of modular spaces that encourage exchange of ideas and celebrate it. LA RELANCE is one such center that mirrors 16th Century constructions of Chateaus in France. A holistic design that offers numerous vantage points to appreciate the circircumbient space. Indoors cover a 200-capacity Auditorium and a cafe overlooking the vast water to make it all seem to poetic. Open Air theatre beside the outdoor exhibition space provides an informal setting for programs. With a scenic site location and a dulating topography, site scaping has been done such to make the entire visit to this project an Event.

To bring the design somewhere between modern and Renaissance, double skin facade has been used. The inner skin supports centralised air conditioning. Outer layer lets in diffused light. It has repeated sized and shaped windows stacked on one another with string course work on the lower portion of the facade. Pediments crown the windows and pilasters/ionic columns.

DOUBLE SPIRAL STAIRCASE Double Spiral Staircase serves as the focal point in the complex. It was one of the signature features of french Renaissance style. Two sets of concentric spirals run together, such that people can see each other but never meet unless they reach the floor landing

Stepped OAT facing west has been provided adjacent to the East Wall of the building. The pilasters provide an aesthetic backdrop to the stage. It can also act as an outdoor seating area when no program is being held.

TREEHOUSE | VOLUME ZERO
Quite often does a toddler dream of living in a treehouse, some think it as a fantasy project while some find limits dreaming because of their disabilities. Admist the jungle of Himachal, this proposal stations a treehouse on kalp-vriksha, that is on a wish granting tree. It has been designed as the primary residence for a couple who enjoy hosting people and appreciate the astral sky. This project, 8ft above the ground level highlights and presents a wheelchair friendly abode, which fulfills the three in one: recreation, work space and observation deck. Furniture and layouting reciprocate to the needs of the residents while screening them from the hussle of city life. A two storied timber structure with turret-like form and ramp walkways to facilitate barrier free locomotion.

MOHAMMAD SHAHEER LANDSCAPE TROPHY 2020-21
Team Member: Aarushi Jangid, Radhika Jhamaria Through all ages of civilization, humans have tried to leave behind little pieces of themselves. Art, Science, and Nature act as mediators in reiterating these stories of the past, by thriving through centuries. Every creation to solve a crisis tangibly involves human experiences and can be interpreted with an emotive dimension. Over the stretch of time, Adalaj in vav witnessed redundant participation due to the shift in water repository technology that led to a functional shutdown of this wonder. Our proposal repurposes the surrounding landscape so as to resurrect this land again as the stage of occurrences for contemporary times.

PANAH: REFUGE FOR ALL
An argument in favour of architecture as a tool for equity
The act of developing a habitat is equal parts Social and equal parts Bricks. The socio-economic dimension adds layers of conventional exercises that have caused distinctions among Humankind. The implication is that to use a space and simplify human complexity, we need to empathize with it. In the Indian scenario, the current infrastructural development practices are inegalitarian because they promote a purified idea of the State that negatively accentuates our nation’s social plurality by providing comfort and luxuries to some in place of danger and discomfort to others. Whereas design solu-
tions should move beyond and be part of an inherent and continuous process to perceive the demands of different individuals in a single picture and bring about a positive change. A construct where inclusivity and belongingness hold value. We should see design as the first step to provide a collaborative environment that can liberate us of these discriminations that dwell in our mindset and pave the way for societal reforms. Only when inclusivity in infrastructure facilities is popularised can we hope for stratification to be removed and diversity to be celebrated.

BUILDING FOR RESILIENCE: RECONCILING CONTRADICTIONS Conversing with the Gujarati built fabric to resurrect a vibrant future
A community is said to flourish on three things: kindred people, their varied epochal roots, and the linking between the former two. Since times immemorial, factions of people who consider themselves similar to each other have stayed together. They cultured indigenous building techniques and harboured local construction practices. Such vernacular buildings are pragmatic solutions that have resulted from thorough experimentation and brainstorming by our ancestors. Modernization solved several problems by fabricating retrofits in factories. Work-yards tagged and sold innovations, claiming they were fit for all regions. This negligence, or rather, no further attempt to use the co-existing built-mass alternatives with new trends shattered Bhuj and its near-about when earth rambled in 2001. Our essay comments on the spirits of people, local architects, and environmentalists who came together to juggle again in the repository of their vernacular knowledge and build a new beginning.
