Journal of Medieval Iberian Studies The Journal of Medieval Iberian Studies (JMIS) is an interdisciplinary journal for innovative scholarship on the multiple languages, cultures, and historical processes of the Iberian Peninsula, and the zones with which it was in contact. Recognizing the vitality of debates about change in the fourth and fifth centuries, and conscious of the artificiality of the boundaries associated with 1492, we encourage submission of all innovative scholarship of interest to the community of medievalists and Iberianists.
JMIS, which aims to bring theoretically informed approaches into creative contact with more empirically minded scholarship, encompasses archaeology, art and architecture, music, philosophy and religious studies, as well as history, codicology, manuscript studies and the multiple Arabic, Latin, Romance, and Hebrew linguistic and literary traditions of Iberia. We welcome work that engages EXECUTIVE EDITORS peninsular Iberia in relation to other parts of the ‘post-classical’ world; which explores links of Simon Doubleday, Hofstra University, USA colonization and exchange with the Maghreb, Julio Escalona, Consejo Superior de Investigaciones embraces the study of Occitania, addresses Iberia’s Científicas, Spain presence in the Mediterranean, or adopts a Pablo Pastrana-Pérez, Western Michigan University, USA transatlantic or Latin American frame. Latin American and Caribbean Ethnic Studies Latin American and Caribbean Ethnic Studies is a cross-disciplinary venue for quality research on ethnicity, race relations, and indigenous peoples. It is open to case studies, comparative analysis and theoretical contributions that reflect innovative and critical perspectives, focused on any country or countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, written by authors from anywhere in the world. Review – Literature and Arts of the Americas
EDITOR/MANAGING EDITOR Daniel Shapiro, Americas Society, USA
Founded in 1968, Review is the major forum in the United States for contemporary Latin American and Caribbean writing in English and English translation; it also covers Canadian writing and the visual and performing arts in the Americas. Review is published by Routledge in association with the Americas Society, a national, not-for-profit institution that promotes understanding in the United States of the political, economic, and cultural issues that define and challenge the Americas today. Review first brought the work of Latin American writers such as Alejo Carpentier, Gabriel García Márquez, and Mario Vargas Llosa to critical attention in the United States, and they were followed by numerous other important figures. Translators Edith Grossman, Gregory Rabassa, and Margaret Sayers Peden are among those who have contributed to Review. Issues of the magazine are developed from the Americas Society’s literature programs, which often focus on specific countries, regions, or on more abstract themes such as urban voices, women’s writing, or Latin American/Latino performing arts. Review has regularly included selections of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction; book reviews of newly translated titles; profiles of visual artists; and essays exploring currents in music and the performing arts.
