hen we started Rowell Photography in the spring of 2004, it was just an idea that came up over a cheap chicken wing dinner one night, outside our local Zehrs supermarket. We had been working together for 6 months as photographers at the Zehrs Portraits Studio, photographing about 20 babies and families a day.

uca fell in love with photography over 15 years ago and has since photographed numerous weddings and portraits. When we set out to expand our team we looked for photographers who had a real love for photography, and portraiture. We wanted to work with amazing people who valued family, life, and equality for all. We looked for artists who were inspired by the masters of photography and worked with an unrelenting drive to create beautiful works of art of anyone and everyone who wanted it. Luca was just that, and lucky for us he was already one of our best friends. We cannot describe the passion Luca has for photography, it’s best experienced in person when you meet him and he talks for 30 minutes straight about how dedicated he is to creating images that represent the closeness and intimate relationship of a couple or a family. When you meet him he will tell you about how he is not the type of photographer to fabricate emotions just for the sake of photographs. We could talk forever about all of his accolades, and awards with the Professional Photographers of Canada, the cover he photographed for International Figure Skating Magazine (which is a big deal to me (Erika) because I used to figure skate) and all about

“Working with the Rowell Photography Team was more than we could have imagined. We knew that having great photos to remember for our lifetime - both Engagement and Wedding - was one of the most important components for our events. The quality and the colours of their photos are immaculate, so perfect and real. Their style is absolutely flawless. As someone who is not confident or comfortable around cameras, it was such a joy to have them photograph us and I felt an extreme trust/comfort in them. I truly believe that our photos could not be anymore perfect. -Kristen & Taylor (Glen Erin Inn Mississauga Wedding) 9

BETROTHED YOUR PRE-WEDDING/ENGAGEMENT SESSION
Y
our engagement is an exciting time. Plans for your wedding are buzzing around and everyone is asking about your proposal. An engagement or pre-wedding photo session is a great opportunity for you to share this special time in your lives with your friends, families and the world. It is also a great way to get to know us as photographers and how we shoot. As most couples are not familiar with having a camera close by documenting their lives and their love, the whole process can be a little intimidating. Your session will be a good practice run for the big day and help to eliminate any stress about the whole photography process. As photographers, we also get the chance to see how you interact as a couple in front of the camera, how you move together, and play together. The more we know about you, the more unique and special your photography will be. Your session can be as fun and elaborate as you like. We love to collaborate with you to create a photo shoot that you will not only get awesome photos from but that you can remember as a great date you had a photographer tag along for. The images from your session can be used for your save the date cards, wedding website, prints to hang in your walls, or in an album you keep on your coffee table.

OUR TOP 5 TIPS
GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION. 4. PDA: Public displays of affection. Quite often in our photographs you will see couples kissing and embracing in public. Although the location is usually not in front of a crowd of strangers, public displays of affection are not for everyone. If you are comfortable enough to tell us how you feel, we will be respectful and honour your requests. Not every engagement session needs to be a make out session, not does it have to look like two strangers on a first date. Finding the balance that is right for you will be something we all will figure out as we get into the photo shoot.
1. LOCATION: Choose a location that appeals to you as a couple. This is a very special photo shoot, and location plays a big part in what makes it unique. You both have to like it. Maybe you want to play out your first date, or go back to the place where you met. Maybe you are both crazy sports fans and a photo of the two of you cheering on your favorite team is the perfect fit, or maybe you love to travel and want to experience somewhere new together. What ever location you choose, make sure you both love it, and we will handle the rest.
5. TIME: Knowing how long you need for your photo session can be quite simple. In our experience, the more locations you want to shoot at the more time you could need. This will allow for any travel that is needed in between locations, but it is not always so. As an example, a few years ago we photographed a couples engagement session in London, England. We covered 6 major locations in 3 hours, and did it all on foot. This summer we photographed a session in Toronto and in 3 hours visited 3 locations and drove between the separate locations. Both sessions were exactly what the couple wanted and they loved their experiences. So knowing how long you need depends 3. MAKE-UP & HAIR: This is more for on many factors. Share your ideas, big and crazy or the girls than the guys. Professional makeup and simple and small, and together we can work on a hairstyling is a great way to put the finishing touches timeline of locations and adventures. on your photo shoot. A great make up artist and hair 6. PROPS: To use props or not to use props, stylist knows what looks good on camera and will that is certainly a good question. We are by no means help you achieve a desired look. It is not essential to have a professional team for your engagement and against props, but we are against the idea of your pre-wedding photos. If you have the time to do it engagement session photos looking like the inside yourself, then by all means go for it! No one knows of a catalogue. Your session is supposed to be fun, you better than you. Maybe even do a little practice adventurous, and essentially a date. So if the props run the night before, it can’t hurt and will only make it feel like work, then maybe its time to shelf that idea. Feel free to share any prop ideas with us, improve your already awesome talents. if its important to you, its important to us. So let’s brainstorm, and if need be, share the workload. 2. CLOTHES: Wear something you look good in. Buy something fresh off a fashion runway, or wear your dads old blazer, we don’t care as long as you feel awesome when you wear it! We encourage couples to bring two complimentary outfits. Something you would consider to be dressed up and something casual. Most photo sessions run between 2-4 hours long, two outfits will give you a great variety of looks in your photos with ample time to change. For girls we suggest bringing walking around shoes if your “photo shoes” are not all terrain, and guys we suggest bringing a spare shirt just in case.

NEWLYWEDS YOUR WEDDING DAY
1. Book your photography 18 months before the wedding if you can. Couples who were able to do this were able to build a better relationship with us as their photographers and friends, and therefore were able to relax on the wedding day. Their engagement and wedding photos are fun, outgoing, romantic and showcase who they are as opposed to just posing for the camera. Booking far enough in advance gave those couples the chance to really enjoy both the engagement and wedding photography experiences.

e offer wedding photography coverage all over the world! Whether you are planning a wedding in your own backyard or in multiple countries across the globe. Our wedding photography style is a blend of perfectly timed candid moments and whimsical portraits in natural settings. With 10 years experience photographing weddings of all sizes, cultures and styles, each wedding we photograph is a new experience for us. We still get nervous before photo shoots, and we still get excited about looking through the photos for the first time. We want you to feel the same way we do when you see your photos for the first time. The only way anyone can feel totally at ease when they get their photos in the end is to be apart of the process with us from the very beginning. So here is a little information about how your wedding photography with us will go down in a few simple steps. Right from how to know what kind of package you need, to how long photos take on the wedding day, and essentially how you can be apart of the entire design of your photo schedule, and walk into your wedding knowing that everything is being taken care of.
2. One month before your wedding we like to get together with you both and visit all the wedding day locations. Now to some couples this might be a waste of time, but I can assure you that this 1-2 hour meeting will save you so much time on the wedding day. This one month walk through, as we like to call it, is our way of finalizing the photography schedule. Photos play a huge part of the day, but it doesn’t have to feel like it. In this little meeting we will get a lay of the land, and explore the locations to find out what you love about them, and why you chose them. You can show us where the party will happen and we can all choose where the portraits of the family will be taken, the couples photos and the bridal party shots. Anything special that might be happening like perhaps a special speech at the ceremony, or you are giving gifts to your families or you have a fireworks display at the end of the night for you guests, all of these things will be talked about and planned for. This is also a perfect time for us to meet your priest, rabbi, monk, guru, pastor or spiritual leader so we can understand their preferences when it comes to the ceremony. Doing this small amount of planning
We want you to be present on your wedding day. The best and most memorable photos happen when the couple is out there enjoying themselves and not worrying about last minute details like if the right cutlery was set out or if the dessert table was set up to spec. This might just be the most important party you have ever thrown, and you don’t want to miss it. So here are a few little nuggets of info we have come across over the years that we feel allowed couples to have the best experience possible.

1. GETTING READY: As your wedding day photographers, our day can start as early or late as you wish. Your timeline for wedding day photos is totally up to you. if you choose our basic package beginning with 6 hours, most couples find that 1 hour of getting ready/prep photography is a great place to start the day. Make up and hair for an entire bridal party can take a very long time in the early hours of the day. Photographs can capture so many emotions and actions in just a few frames. We do not need to be there for hours of prep. The best weddings are the ones that are equally balanced between events. Having us arrive within the last 1-2 hours before the ceremony will give us time to photograph your dress hanging before you put it on, any details you have like jewellery, veil, shoes, invitation. In this time we will be there when your bridesmaids or family is there to help you into your dress, or tie your bowtie, put on your cufflinks, and have a drink before you leave to the ceremony.

to the ceremony is highly recommended. This will allow for all the photo moments above to be captured in real time and also allow for any travel time (even if it is walking across the street) to happen without feeling rushed.
3. CEREMONY: All ceremonies are different. Different cultures, and traditions at ceremonies can dictate the timeframe. Most ceremonies are between 20-45 minutes. During your wedding ceremony, we will be roving around the venue looking for multiple angles and capturing the emotions of the ceremony from you and your guests. We are quiet, unobtrusive, and respectful. The most beautiful ceremonies are the ones where the guests are truly present and with you in the moment. It is not rude to ask your guests to “unplug for the ceremony. Turning off cell phones, ipads, and recording devices, and cameras. 4. PORTRAITS: Groups, Bridal Party & Couple: When the ceremony is over and guests have made their way to the cocktail reception we will be preparing for the family portraits. By this time we all will know where those portraits will be happening because 1 month before the wedding we all met to

5. RECEPTION: During the reception time we will be capturing what will be the majority of candid moments of your guests and family members. Ask us any time for impromptu photos with friends and family. We are there to photograph the moments and people that mean most to you, so feel free to make some of those moments happen. During dinner, we wish to be seated near you and the guests so we can be there to quickly grab our cameras if things become emotional during speeches. Being on the other side of the venue, with the clean up crew and DJ eating dinner makes it very hard for us to know when great moments are happening. When dancing starts we set up a few lights to break through the darkness and photograph your guests bustin’ a move. Too many dancing photos can look redundant, so we suggest that 30-45 mins of dancing is sufficient. Our coverage never goes past 11pm, so please do let us know if you have a fun event like a fireworks display or a special presentation planned for later in the night, as we would love to be there to capture it.
discuss those details. You will have assigned the list of family groupings to the loudest family member and they are organizing the groupings which makes the entire process organized and efficient. As each grouping is complete, those guests and family members trickle back into the cocktail reception and left are the bridal party and the two of you. As a group we head to the photo location for the major group shots and take portraits with you and each one of your groomsmen or bridesmaids. Once the bridal party has returned to the cocktail, we begin to photograph your couples wedding portraits. This process usually takes an hour, but if you wish to get back to the party we do suggest that we split your portrait session in half and return to it again at sunset, which will give us a nice variety in lighting and over all photographic aesthetic.

he wedding is over and now its just the two of you, what better way to take a little bit of that celebration along with you into the next chapter of your lives together than to capture your honeymoon. Now I know what your are thinking, how does this even work? And do they follow us around the whole time? The short answers is no, of course not. Honeymoon photo sessions are for the adventurous couple. So if you like the idea of hiking to the top of a mountain or strolling through the streets of ancient cities then this experience will be right up your alley. If your mobile phone photos and your selfy extended arm cam just don’t show how beautiful and romantic your trip was then this is for you. Our approach to photographing honeymoon sessions is much like our engagement sessions, laid back, and at your pace. Long before the honeymoon all the fine details are mapped out and photo shoots happen intermittently throughout your vacation. Most couples choose between 2-5 days when photos will be taken depending on their schedules. Most photo shoots are half day photo sessions that take place at multiple locations. Much like the engagement session, the honeymoon session feels like a date, actually it feels like multiple dates. Fun and whimsical, as photographers we go with the flow, capturing your sightseeing, visiting all your favorite locations and finding beautiful settings and putting you in them. Honeymoon sessions are light, and easygoing and can involve as many activities, locations, outfit changes, and experiences as you want. In the end you go home with memories that show off the amazing destination you visited, and show off the truly unique experiences you had together. Our clients have had honeymoon photography adventures in France, Iceland, Mexico, Scotland, Dominican, and across Canada.

our wedding day is a big deal to us. We love what we do, and because of that we take a limited number of commissions for weddings a year. Our team is a small one, but we have over 10 years experience photographing weddings. From European castle settings to intimate backyard weddings, we are prepared for any style and size event. Knowing what type of package you need for your wedding day starts with timing. All of our packages begin with 6 hours of wedding day coverage, which we feel is the least amount of time a couple needs, and can easily cover the main events of the day. Additional coverage and products we feel are a personal choice. To us photography is the most important aspect of the wedding when all is said and done. Your photographs will be the only representation of the day you have to look back on, and your wedding album will be how your grandkids 60 years from now view your love story. There are so many articles, websites, and books on how to cut corners on budget in your wedding planning, but one things for sure, the general consensus is that photography is the one thing you can’t skimp on. Your memories are important, so make them last.

ne of the most popular wedding trends in photography is the photo booth! But we wanted to do something better. Most of the time people are blinking in the photos and are not ready for when the flash goes off. This results in tons of wasted, half good photos that only half of the people in the photograph actually like. We wanted to make everyone happy. Give everyone the chance to look awesome in their photos, and give them more room to have fun, and have more friends included. Our Photo Booth is a full on professional photography studio set up at your reception! We have real lights, a giant back drop and custom made props. But best of all we have a real photographer taking tons of photos, capturing all those in between moments that are so hard to capture for a slow and lazy automated photo booth. We traded up for more photos, high quality images (the same quality as the rest of your wedding day photos) and better moments captured. In the end you get every single photo we capture on your USB of images and you can share those with friends and family. Most couples often print them to add to thank you cards after the wedding as a little surprise for their wedding guests.

ONLINE PHOTO GALLERY
Y
our Online photo gallery is where you will view all your photographs for the first time. Each gallery is an extension of the Rowell Photography website, and completely private to you and those you share it with. One month after your photo session your gallery log in and password information will be emailed to you along with instructions on how to view images, choose your favourites for your album. This is also the place where you can purchase custom prints for gifts and for the walls of your home. We even artfully craft a draft email for you to use and send along to your guests so they can see your photographs and order prints of their own. The gallery is more than a tool to order prints from, it’s a place to share, and re-experience your wedding moments. The idea to display photos after the wedding in private galleries has become so important to our couples over the years, as it has been the best way for their relatives from overseas, and out of province to enjoy the wedding. Photos can be easily emailed to friends and family from the gallery, you can crop images to your taste and even see what the color versions look like in black and white. Once your gallery is ready and sent to you, our services extend to your wedding guests as well, and any of those you share your gallery with can connect with us and purchase prints. We are happy to help and answer questions and walk anyone through the process; from your aunt in Australia who lives in a different timezone to your grandfather who is new to online shopping. We can’t wait for you to share your photos.

“Given Darren’s love for photography, hiring a photographer was high on the priority list after we got engaged! We were somewhat overwhelmed at first given the many photographers there are to choose from. However, when we started our research online and saw the work of Erika and Ryan of Rowell Photography, it quickly became an easy decision. The beauty of Rowell’s work – everything from the vibrant colours that literally popped out of the page to the creativity of each shot – was exceptional. When we met Erika and Ryan, they continued to impress us with their flexibility and laid back attitude. We quickly came to realize that we had made a great first decision in our choice of wedding photographers! They are truly a dynamic husband and wife couple that have incredible vision and passion for what they do. We were honoured to have them a part of our special day. Our engagement and wedding photos, along with the outstanding wedding albums Erika and Ryan designed for us and our families, will serve as fond memories of our special day for many years to come.” -Krista & Darren (Wedding at Windermere House Muskoka)
