My eerste aand in Welkom
27/09/2012
EXT. KLIP PAN - MORNING Hundreds of pink Flamingo’s awaken from the bright Sunrise coming over Klip Pan outside Welkom. JOHAN(V.O) Welkom. Ek onthou die Flamike elke derde Sondag oggend langs die dam, met my vistok op sy mik en ’n oranje pet op my kop. The Flamingo’s become airborne and fly into the abyss. EXT. ABANDONED HOUSE - MORNING An abadoned house on the corner of a long dark street covered in leaves. Johan stands in the middle of the street. He picks up a fallen leaf. EXT. NG CHURCH - MORNING NG Church double doors with a chain around it and a notice that reads: OGGEND DIENS SONDAE 10H00. JOHAN(V.O) Die NG kerk in kerkstraat. EXT. CLOCK TOWER - MORNING Johan stands on the cobblestone of Oppenheimer Square looking up at Welkom’s very own Big Ben in all it’s might. JOHAN(V.O) Ek was sewe toe ons opgegaan het en ek was bang, of dalk is ek nou bang wanneer ek aan die idee dink dat ek eintlik daar bo rond baljaar het terwyl die vensters wawyd oop was met ’n stofstorm aan die suis.

The HOWLING of a renown Goldfield’s dust storm. EXT. FARMLAND - MORNING Johan passes a large goldmine as he drives in his white Nissan Bakkie through a duststorm on his way to Allenridge. EXT. ALLENRIDGE TOWNSHIP - MORNING Johan pulls into a long clean and quite livable township street. He gets out and leans against the driver’s door as he lights up a smoke. The street is asleep. A BLACK WOMAN comes out of her shack to refil a bucket of water followed by a little BLACK BOY running out of another shack to take a piss against a tree. Johan notices someone approaching. It’s ELIZABETH MOLOI(40, black) carrying a handbag and an umbrella. JOHAN More Ousie ELIZABETH Oupa Reitz! Hallo Oupa Reitz! Oe, maar jyt groot geword my kind. Kyk hoe lyk jou baard. JOHAN Jy lyk goed Elizabeth. Elizabeth LAUGHS and gives her luggage to Johan who is intrigued by her yellow unbrella. She walks around the Bakkie to the passenger door.

Johan LAUGHS as they climb into his vehicle. ELIZABETH En jy weet nooit. Johan admires her. The Nissan bakkie starts and they drive out of the township back to Welkom. FADE OUT.
